Outside of MLG this was probably the largest floorspace at the show, Nintendo came in with a strong array of titles for the DS and Wii, the overall idea of course to get the Wii exposed even more to the masses since generally the DS still manages to fly off shelves at an alarming rate and carries a large array of titles.
The focus of the show was the long awaited Super Smash Brothers Brawl for the Wii, this could have been a focus on Super Mario Galaxy as it was on the floor as well, but it ended up being on Brawl for the obvious reason that if a large group of people are going to be seated in bleachers for an hour or longer to play a match and win a shirt, they're going to want to be amped up about something. While Mario is great, Brawl was a much more attractive title to get people cheering and yelling and acting as a signal to others to get in on the events. Other than these two giants for the year the Zapper was also on demonstration. The Zapper of course being the new plastic adapter that unifies the Wiimote and Nunchuk so gamers do not feel as if their arms are going to fall off from holding these two in a similar line for ages and suprisingly it works quite well at that.

Lets skip down to the details about what they had and what was really odd about the floor.
- Ghost Squad - One of quite a few shooters coming in to compliment the zapper, the title takes on a multi-approach system using various combat modes, from stealth shooting to close combat gun battles. The game does share one odd quirk though that was tipped off by the general models and textures, it seems mostly like Ghost Squad was a re-hash of the Dynamite Cop or Confidential Mission engines from back in the Dreamcast days. if so this really speaks about how developers are scrapping anything they can think of along into the Wii. While the gameplay is decent lets hope they went for longevity over turning a quick title out because Confidential Mission was probably one of the shortest shooters around in gaming.
- Links Crossbow Training - The packaged title for the Zapper release is always an interesting one, generally it ends up being the marker for what to expect out of a product, in this case it is a fairly good thing, the Zapper is still relatively new as hardware to me, trying to get used to the functions was a bit odd but with this game I was able to pick up a bit faster. The game spans multiple mini-games featuring the loveable link blasting down enemies at close range, on the fly or from a distance, the variety of the game is decent enough for a packaged title, honestly I thought it reminded me slightly of the old Namco days on the Playstation with Point Blank, obviously to not such an extreme though. The game felt pretty decent and the navigation via the nunchuk us actually pretty stable.
- Medal of Honor Heroes 2 - Originally a PSP based title, EA has found themselves commited to bringing this game out to the console level via the Wii. I gave this game a few tries, I played it without the Zapper at the EA booth, I played it with the Zapper at the EA booth and I played it with Nintendo. Why would I do such a thing? The control system is a bit odd on the Wii, it feels either hypersensitive at times or absurdly slow on others. Using the Zapper helped relieve some of this but in general it still feels a bit unpolished. The other reason was due to the visual representation of the game. Even Ghost Squad while blocky in the models was a higher step up compared to this, visually Heroes 2 is probably right up there with Call of Duty 3 for bad texturing, if they ported the textures from the PSP then that pretty much explains it, but otherwise I have to wonder if companies are even trying with the system. While it plays a step up from existing shooters, the visual quality really knocks down a lot of the value to offer gamers.
Escaping the shooters lets move on.
- Super Smash Brothers Brawl - Coming in with Classic Controller support or Wii-Mote support Brawl is a title ready to break out for retail, the game at the show was loaded up with characters and levels. Personally I found myself latching onto Pit for fighting but I did change it up with Link, Samus and Sonic, overall I was impresed with the control system, gaming on the Wii-Mote and the Classic Controller was fun, not just fun in a "I managed to land a hit" way, but fun in a manner of speed to pick up into the game and actually start doing some advanced damage as well as sending opponents into oblivion from the battle platform. Highlights for me included the Starfox platform, the Metaknight stage and the Animal Crossing stage, mainly because insane chaos and Animal Crossing seemed to have nothing in common but yet it was a beautiful chaos. The game is a fighting game laced with crack for myself and many others, given that fighters are not as common as they used to be, Brawl will find a home with many gamers when it arrives soon.
- Super Mario Galaxy - Looking at the general gameplay so far, this really has kept consistent to what Nintendo has been demonstrating for everyone. The game takes gamers into multiple worlds beyond the mushroom kingdom. This time the gameplay is absolutely varied and pushing users to really feel out the control system out in the multiple manners they use it in. Anything from water racing to flying as a bee, to other items such as free grappling through space. Personally I found a bit of addiction in the way the water races were done, it's almost like the game anticipates a general air of confidence right off the bat, and then suddenly, oh a sharp right... I wasn't anticipating this and you go flying into the abyss. The controls are responsive and tweaked to be a gradual shift in response, when I turn slightly to the left the screen doesn't shift with me all of a sudden causing a panic reaction to counter-turn. Overall I liked the worlds they had available, I just hope that the variety keeps up because it would be a shame to clear the game in only a few hours of play. if anything this really took a step back in the way things were going and presents gamers with a real Mario title by going back to the roots.
The DS was the last real showing, many of the titles available were highlights of previously released games not only of recent (Zelda) but much older titles such as New Super Mario Bros. One of the immediate highlights for those into DS gaming though was Mario Party DS. A given for popularity since it brings multiple DS owners together for fun quick gaming without having to be all that organized. From what was there to play this title is going to prove to be quite interesting when it arrives. Personally I found it to be a good change and a step away from what some might expect from the previous Wario titles on the DS.
