TRINE preview - PAGE 2
Sean Ridgeley - Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

TRINE is another game likely to make you stop in the middle of a given level and just take in the beauty it offers. Especially combined with the music, it's a very absorbing experience -- we can't wait to see all 15 levels.  Further on that, PC gamers will be happy to know the game offers extensive graphical options and seems to have support for pretty much every resolution going today, with more of both planned.

On a related note, for the story, TRINE employs a painted art style overlayed by some superb narration. This seems to harken back to the days of some very old RPGs, and perhaps even some children's programming with a similar approach. In our version this wasn't animated, but according to the developers, "2D animated layers" will be in the final, which (hopefully) prove even more charming. Anyhow, there's some humour in the mix, too (the Wizard is a bit of a ladies man); all combined, it's a natural and enjoyable experience.

At this point, Frozenbyte's third offering offers a solid mix of genres in one gorgeous package, and will serve as a perfect introduction for kids to the world of fantasy, while still providing an entrancing world for older folk to explore; the game's not perfect at this stage and can use a bit of smoothing out gameplay wise, but this is being worked on now, on top of many other things (too many to list, they say). Even so, we feel it would be a title well-worth picking up in its current form.

Xbox LIVE Arcade may see the game eventually, but no plans are being made as such at this point. For PC gamers and PlayStation Networkers, you can catch TRINE in June.
