3DMark 2006

The GeForce 7900 GTX has a clear lead in 3DMark 2006's fill rate test. Obviously raw clock speeds come into play here.

Pixel shader performance of the 7900 GTX is just a hair above the X1900 XT -- enough to say that it has snagged the crown here, but not decisively. Vertex shader performance is a similar story when it comes to complex shaders, though decisive victory for the 7900 GTX comes in the form of simple vertex shaders.

A test of complex shader model 3.0 particles shows us that the 7900 GTX's additional horsepower is not enough to give it a decisive lead over the second-best 7800 GTX 512. 3DMark 2006 refuses to acknowledge the Radeon X1900 XT's capability to run this test, so that result is not here. However, the Radeon makes a come-back and smacks the NVIDIA cards up a bit when testing 3DMark 2006's implementation of a Perlin noise function.
