Asus Blitz Extreme Motherboard - PAGE 5
J. Micah Grunert - Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

Asus decided to go with their standard choice of the AMI BIOS structure for the Blitz. It has good feel to it with quite an abundance of options. Let's start with the boot screen.

Simple 'Republic of Gamers' logo works well.

The Main Page is simple enough.

Extreme Tweaker is what I want to see. I'll go through those important settings in point form first and then touch upon a couple of interesting things I had found.

  • CPU Multipliers 6, 7 and 8 for our E6400 Core2 chip.
  • FSB Frequency of 200MHz up to 800MHz.
  • CPU VCore Voltages ranging from 1.10V to 1.90V in 125 little .00625V steps.
  • Northbridge Voltage of 1.25V up to 2.03V in .02V steps.
  • DRAM Voltage of  1.50V to 3.04V in .02V steps.
  • Southbridge Voltage of 1.050V to 1.225V in 8 quick .025V steps.

And there's Auto settings as well. There's lots of other voltages and settings to play with, like the Transaction Booster. It's a type of memory enhancement, but with limited results. It doesn't do much aside from boost in memory speeds a bit. The performance gain however is on the order of just a couple percent so not really worth it.

The DRAM Frequency is another issue all together. Because memory speed and FSB speed are locked into a ratio, you'll simply get Auto and six differnt memory speed settings to choose from. The ratios in question can be applied to the formula of FSB x Ratio = Memory Speed. Those ratios are 2.4, 2.5, 3, 3.2 3.3 and 4.

Advanced CPU Configuration

The Advanced Devices for LAN, FireWire and other little bits/bytes. Not terribly important.

Power, nuff said.

And we've all seen a BIOS Hardware Monitor before. Asus did a thorough job here.

How do you want to Boot today?

Now over here in the Tools section we have two features that no motherboard should ever be without. The first is an O.C. Profile utility to save two different settings. There's other motherboards that do offer more save slots, but two should suffice.

And the Asus EZ Flash 2 utility for upgrading the BIOS. I flashed the Blitz to its latest 0804 release using a USB thumb drive. There's also the option of backing up the Blitz BIOS to something like a thymb drive or IDE harddrive which could also allow for multiple O.C profiles.

Well, the Asus Blitz Extreme does have a nice BIOS, but nothing really jumped out at me. It's good BIOS, which is expected from Asus, but nothing new to get overly excited about.
