Casio Cassiopeia Pocket Manager BE-300 Review - PAGE 1
blake Fisher - Wednesday, June 19th, 2002

Introduction

Casio has been building its Cassiopeia line for a long period of time now and has since branched its Portable Digital Assistant [PDA] line to cover professionals and students in different environments. The variety can cater to a number of environments and Casio tailors its durability and software to suit those needs.

The new line of Casio PDA’s has also established Internet hookups via wireless Internet protocols and desktop computer connection backpacking. In this BE-300 you can actually hook up a LAN connection to your computer and its Internet connection via the USB Cradle supplied with the unit and receive independent email, as well as surf the net.

It also has its own wireless service available.

Uses & Appeal

I decided early on to run a test with this device by dragging it to a number of classes at my local university to take down notes with it and draw statistic charts and the like. The device was extremely small and easy to conceal, and it passed my trial by fire with flying colours, literally. The vibrant display on the LCD was rather nice in contrast to the usual monochrome Palm and Visor PDA’s in the same price range. In a student’s perspective this device was perfectly suited and held up well, suiting all needs, including expandability towards MP3’s and video, if you have the extra space via a Compact Flash card. The device is priced out reasonably, selling for about $300 CDN, which is a bargain in my eyes.
