Cornerstone P1460 19" Monitor Review - PAGE 1
Ren-Jie Huang - Monday, August 13th, 2001

Introduction

CRT monitors are well-established output devices for the personal or corporate computer. The technology behind the CRT monitor is very well refined and provides graphical advantages over the relatively new technology employed by Liquid Crystal Displays. The market has always been pushing towards bigger, better and cheaper displays, be it CRT or LCD. Currently, the standard is a 17-inch CRT display, but most users are looking for larger displays since many are upgrading from older systems. Today we take a look at the Cornerstone p1460 colour 19-inch monitor.

The Cornerstone p1460 is a high-resolution ergo flat 19-inch monitor utilizing shadow mask technology. Shadow mask technology is ideal for business applications. This professional monitor is designed to run at 1600 x 1200 resolution at a solid 85Hz with a horizontal dot pitch of 0.22mm.

The p1460 is part of Cornerstone’s Professional family of monitors, which is ideal for document imaging, CAD/CAM programming, and desktop publishing. However, the tube used is not perfectly flat so some geometric distortion is expected. Monitor prices have dropped dramatically over the last couple of years and 19-inch monitors are now hovering around the range of $250-550USD. With an average price tag of $480USD, the Cornerstone p1460 could be considered a premium monitor with respect to pricing, but how does it compare in quality?

Box Contents

For the price of the monitor, you really are not getting too much for your money. Basically you receive the Cornerstone p1460 unit, a floppy disk for drivers (What, no state of the art CD?), and a few sheets of paper, which includes the manual. This falls considerably short from its competition such as Samsung which packages all its monitors with Colorific Software and a well sized manual. If it’s any consolation, you can visit Cornerstone’s software and download the BigMonitor Software.
