Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 2x1GB Kit - PAGE 2
William Henning - Friday, July 7th, 2006

Sandra

While Sandra does not show the peak memory performance as well as RightMark, it is still an excellent benchmark showing the realistic attainable memory bandwidth for scientific code.

Here we see the Crucial PC6400 at stock 800MHz being beaten only by PC8000 and PC8500 memory that was able to run at even lower latencies than the Crucial's 4-4-4-12; and we get a taste of the overclocked results from the PC6400 memory - your eyes are not deceiving you, the memory was able to run at PC8568 speeds at 5-5-5-15!

The Crucial memory was also stable at 4-4-4-12 up to PC8000, which is VERY good, but was no longer stable at PC8160 speeds. Here we can see that for Sandra, running at PC8160 @ 4-4-4-12 is only 0.4% faster than running at the stable PC8160 @ 5-5-5-15 setting.

The best result we were able to get from this memory was an amazing 32.7% faster Sandra score than its stock setting; mind you a big part of the performance increase has to be attributed to the FSB and processor speeds being raised by 33.8%.

As we would expect, the PC8000 and PC8500 memory that was able to run at lower latencies at 967MHz and 1140MHz respectively was able to beat out the PC6400 running at 1071MHz and higher latencies.

WinRAR

WinRAR is a great benchmarking tool as it is roughly equally effected by memory and processor speed differences.

Here the Crucial PC6400 at stock performed well, and really shone when highly overclocked.

Moral to the story? RAISE THAT FSB!
