Now that you have the IP address configured, it's time to get the drive ready. I'm going to assume that you have a brand new drive, and that it needs to be formatted. If the drive has already been formatted with FAT32, you can just skip this step, as the LanDrive will just add the directories it needs.
The Disk utility menu is quite simple. You can see if any error messages have been logged, you can format the drive (be careful! it will erase everything on it!), scan the disk for errors, and even set a "Sleep Time" which allows the LanDrive to power down the hard drive after the specified minutes of inactivity.
OK. IP configured - check. Drive attached and formatted - check. I guess its time to configure the Samba share!

The Samba Administration menu can start to get a bit complicated for users not used to networking.
If you've formatted the drive, and are happy to let everyone on your network have full read/write access to the 'PUBLIC' folder the LanDrive creates by default, you don't have to do a thing.
If you want some private directories, say one for each person in the house, you need to create folders and assign passwords to them.
The "Create Folder" and "Password" windows are opened in response to clicking on the "Create" and "Password" buttons, normally you would not have both open. |
Frankly, this is the second place a non-technical user would get confused - however the default "PUBLIC" share without a password is available to even novices.
