Hmm...I would have thought that the RX2600XT would perform a bit better up against the XFX 8600 GT (XXX overclocked version) and XFX 8600 GTS (XXX overclocked version) here. In F.E.A.R, the RX2600XT is full 20 FPS back behind the XFX 8600 GT with AA enabled. As the resolutions are increased, the RX2600XT closes the performance gap -- probably due to the extra 256MB of memory available. But this point is sort of moot because a gamer would not want to play F.E.A.R at 1600x1200 at 21 frames-per-second anyways.
With Doom 3, again, the RX2600XT can't keep up with the XFX 8600 GT -- although the performance difference is not as large here. And again, with AA enabled, the RX2600XT performance (relative to the 8600 GT) is marginally better than the 8600 GT, at the higher resolutions. However, the 256 GDDR3 difference doesn't seem to have as much effect with AA disabled -- maybe in some newer games, that require more memory for higher quality textures, this card will be able to shine a bit more.
Let's see.
