The new midrange: 10 good cards for around $200 - PAGE 8
Kevin Spiess - Thursday, March 20th, 2008

NVIDIA cards 'own' Crysis. How much is due to the design of the cards themselves, or to the resources allocated by NVIDIA in the optimization and development of the advanced CRYEngine2, is anyone's guess. But if Crysis is your game, NVIDIA is probably the route you would want to take -- although the Asus HD 3870 T.O.P doesn't do that bad here, to be fair.

Another stand-out on this chart could be the BFG 8800 GTS. For an aging card, it holds its own in this demanding benchmark, undoubtedly benefiting from its 320-bit memory interface. If you are hanging on to a 8800 GTS still -- well, you might want to hang on to it for a bit longer, as you are still very much 'in the game', so to speak.

Although it isn't true for every game, in Crysis, it appears that 256MB's of DDR3 won't cut it.
