Altec Lansing VS4121 Review

Finding the most for your money in speakers is always a tough choice. Speakers claim extremely high levels of wattage and seem to deliver only fractions of what they state and worse by the time that people realize it. The speakers are most likely quite damaged. Other famous items are poor drivers chosen for the speakers resulting in muffled sounds or poor high frequency response due to dependence on the midrange to handle all of the sounds. The VS4121 features quite a few drivers and the classic long-throw 6.5" sub with it to take on this issue.

Newbie's Multimedia Speaker System Buyer's Guide

Multimedia speakers have come a long way. Today's offerings are considerably closer to midrange sound systems than they ever have been and the trend will only continue in that direction. Digital music, convergence and the Internet have all but guaranteed that the PC will become a general purpose multimedia device where once it was first used to do work and then to play games.

AOpen MS-900 5.1 Speakers Review

Still have a pair of $20 speakers cranking out your games, MP3s and -- dare I ask -- DVD movies? It’s easy to see why, though; for most, speakers are probably the least regarded component in a complete PC system.

Maya 7.1 & Maya 7.1 Gold Sound Card Review

Existing sound cards supporting only 5.1 channels (SB Live!, Philips Acoustic Edge PSC 706) cannot explore the full potential of DVDs allowing for more than 5.1 channels. Enter the MAYA 7.1 and MAYA 7.1 Gold sound cards, offering, as their name implies, 7.1 channels of auditory excitement to create a true desktop home theatre ("crowd cheers" - in 7.1 channels, of course).

Stereo Link 1200 Review

Ever try to crank your favorite songs from your computer on your state of the art home stereo system just to find out they sounded a tiny bit better then your itty bitty computer speakers? Well you think to yourself, “It has to be because my computer speakers are just THAT good… Maybe that “state-of-the-art” subwoofer is just making my computer speakers sound that good? Unfortunately, you’re just kidding yourself.

Polk AMR130 5.1 Speaker Review

The AMR130 uses 4 identical satellites for each of the front and rear left-right speakers. In theory this allows for an even sound field for movies, however we really liked how the AMR150’s multi-driver front satellites allowed for its increased musicality.

Audiotrack MAYA Soundcard Review

As the great ball of time rolls along, the price of new and cutting edge computer components slowly recedes until even the common man (read: me) can afford. This is no different for audio cards which is why there has been such a bloom in home studios over the past decade or so. Each passing year, the output quality of these studios has increased by an insane degree and the number and variety of products is enough to make me weep.

RCA Lyra 2 Portable MP3 Player Review

A number of larger sized MP3 players have been staking claim to various advantages depending on the price of the product and its make. A few players offer larger storage capacity, some offer fancy displays, some offer compact size and some offer versatility [i.e. Radio functionality, multiple formats for playback].

RCA Kazoo Review

Consumers have been assaulted by the overly competitive MP3 player marketplace in recent months and very little has made its way to stand out in the forefront. However, to some avail a few MP3 players still using built-in memory or smart media cards have made a name for themselves due to their advantage of being smaller and furthermore trendy. These smaller portable devices are easy to tuck away and forget about but yet are able to retain the same qualities of common portable CD players and larger MP3 players.

Kenwood DPC-MP922 Portable MP3 CD Player Review

We all know MP3's are here to stay even with the fall of the once popular Napster. But do MP3 CD players have what it takes to stick around with the new devices out there today? I'm thinking about the iPod and Nomad in particular. These 2 devices have changed the landscape of MP3 playing, in the portable sense.

Digisette DUO-64 MP3 Player Review

To most, being “two-faced” is an undesirable trait to have. However, in the Digisette Duo-64’s case, it is more than a welcomed attribute. The Duo-64 functions both as a personal MP3 player and a self-contained MP3 cassette adapter – all in one.

Echo Audio MIA Soundcard Review

A little known fact about the world of computer audio is there is a distinct difference between audiocards and soundcards; the most notable of which is the quality of analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion. That is, the quality of playing back and recording audio on a computer with an emphasis on the latter.

Xitel DG2 MDPort Review

Aficionados and stalwart supporters of the MiniDisc format have long been using their MD’s to record MP3 compilations… but until now the options were limited to either analogue recording, or else digital recordings on soundcards equipped with digital outputs. Sure, the superb Xitel AN1 gave astoundingly clear transfers in spite of being an analogue recording device, but some audiophiles and enthusiasts insist on digital recordings.
