THE GOOD: The graphics, storyline, characters, battle... a whole bunch of other stuff.
THE BAD: Voice acting
SUMMARY: Skies of Arcadia is one of the best RPG's that you can get for your Sega Dreamcast. GamePro gave it good reviews, put it on the top 21 games, and I strongly agree.
SoA has a unique battle system - just like every DC RPG has one - and a ship battle mode. The story line is great, and it'll give you a whole new look on the life of a pirate.
The game also has plenty of replay value, as there are 60 discoveries to find, 36 spells to master with each character, and special moves to learn. There's also weapons to find / make.
THE GOOD: Lovable heroes, immersive worlds and graphics, great musical score, ship battles
THE BAD: So-so hand-to-hand combat gameplay, brainless VMU minigame, random encounter rate
SUMMARY: Having played Grandia II before this title (and I love the Grandia series) I really didn't expect to like this title as much. Boy are pleasant surprises why I love video games so much! Skies of Arcadia is every bit as much adventure as it is role-playing.
And speaking of role-playing, you'll love role-playing as the heroes of this story. Though voice acting overall could use a bit of work, character interactions and facial expressions bring them all to life in a way that just makes them so charming. RPG characters nowadays are so dreary. Not this bunch! The Armada Admirals are great villains too.
Now onto gameplay. I'll admit that hand-to-hand combat could use a little work since the "innovations" introduced are hardly...
THE GOOD: Characters, graphics and scenarios, battle system, loading times, fun, music, extras
THE BAD: Random encounters occasionally get in the way.
SUMMARY: God, I love this game! The main enemies (the generals/admirals) Are very good characters. The main characters develop wonderfully! The graphics are very nice, and there are no FMV's, so you aren't jilted by the in-game graphics, which are quite good. The music is also quite nice. The battle system seems to have no problems at all. There's also a nice atmosphere of fun, when things get really serious, once you get out of the harsh part, it becomes fun again. Fun is something that many RPG's lack. This game is my reason for owning a Dreamcast. Also to note the loading times are pretty good. The extras and VMU game are nice, to boot. I coulda write much more but to do so would be unreasonable for the purpose of this. Yet another side note, it's balanced perfectly
THE BAD: Too Many Random battles...Until you get the ability to fly above and below the clouds.
SUMMARY: Not a game that can be beaten within 10 hours. Buy this game as soon as you can. If you rent it you will spend almost as much money on the renal costs as you will if you went out and bought it. Also, most video stores don't have it available for rent. Better than Grandia 2 easily. No question. Best RPG for DC so far, one of the best for any system ever. Like all RPG's if you level up alot, it will be easy, but unless you use a walkthrough you won't be able to find all 64 discoveries, chams, crew members...
THE GOOD: Well! Everything, yeah... The characters are great and you really feel as if you know them! The interaction is great! - The special moves, the map, all the people, it lasts so long it's great
THE BAD: It's annoying when you lose a battle! I get really frustrated! And as everyone says there are too many battles. Especially when you're trying to explore and you get attacked by some monsters then you lose your place! The annoyance! Another thing, it isn't a bad thing, but it annoyed me...Fina is so weak! Bless 'er. Oh yeah! and the lack of save points. I really had to go out/get my dinner and there was no save point for 20 minutes or more. That happened a lot.
SUMMARY: Well what can I say? I wasn't too keen on the game at the start. It was fate that lead me to this game. I read a tiny review in J17. I was going to buy Sonic Adventure 2, Shenmue or this. And my gut feeling brought me to Skies of Arcadia. It's such a long game,...
THE GOOD: Everything! The graphics, the gameplay, the presentation, and the pinta quest(vmu game, which lets u find items and get money by just playing it on your memory card and transfer it too your real game) is hella tight!
THE BAD: Nothing really, maybe just too many random battles..
SUMMARY: Skies of Arcadia is one of the best rpg's ever made for the Dreamcast!
This game and Grandia II are the best rpg's for the dreamcast.
THE GOOD: The plot. I can't stress this enough. I could never guess the plot! And I'm good at it, too. Plus, the whole cast of characters is perfect. Once you meet a fellow named Gilder, you know this is different than normal RPGs. I LOVE THAT GUY, HE'S THE BEST!!! "Come on. Dance for me."
THE BAD: Random Battles? No, now I like those, too. Just cause of this game.
SUMMARY: First Week of play: End of Disc 1. Play Time: 35 hours.
The only real problem with this game is that I don't want to beat it. Cause if I do, that means there won't be anything new for me in plot. The game ends, and I don't want it too.
That is literally the only downfall of this game. I was actually suprised with the characters at almost every plot turn, and new ability learned. I've forgot how involved you can get in games. This game reminded me. I broke my record, and played this game for 10 hours straight. I'm near the end now, at about 45 hours. I...
THE BAD: Sometimes random encounters can get annoying but who cares?
SUMMARY: I love this game and have played it for 35+ hours and still havent completed it. The ship battles are tense, the graphics are great and later when you have your own island the game gets even better! This is one game i would definetly recommend. GO AND BUY IT NOW!!!!!!!!!
THE GOOD: really fun to play, very interesting story line, great music
THE BAD: the ending isn't bad but it's not awesome
SUMMARY: I really like this game becuase it has great music, it's an adventure rpg. not just that but there is a bit of romance too. (hey! you gotta have romance in an adventure rpg, epecially the hero, it ads more character) I really like the graphics and the storyline is great, and its a long game which is good. There's only one thing bad, I wish there'd be a little romance at the end with fina and Vyse. Oh well I still really enjoyed this game
