THE GOOD:
Graphics
Sonic and Shadow levels
Speed
Beautiful lighting

THE BAD:
Dr. Eggman and Tails levels
Rouge and Knuckles levels
Music
Characters

SUMMARY:
Crash Bandicoot, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Mario. During the Sega Dreamcast, Playstation, and Nintendo 64 years, these three mascots battled it out for a few years. Mario finished in 1st place, followed by Sonic in 2nd place, and Crash in 3rd place. All of Mario's Adventure games were amazing. Only the first three Crash Bandicoot games were amazing. And what about Sonic? His first three Sonic games for the Sega Genesis were amazing. All of his spin-off games were horrible. All of his Sega Master System, Sega Game Gear, Sega CD, and Sega Saturn games were ordinary, and did not have that great Sonic feel to them. He got even worse when he branched off to Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo.

Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Sonic the Hedghog 3, were the games that first brought me to like Sonic as much as Mario and Crash Bandicoot. Then, I played Sonic Adventure for the Sega Dreamcast. It is my absolute favorite Sonic game. The levels were beautiful, and dream-like. This game brought the meaning of "Dreamcast," because this game is truely a dream. The translation was done much better too. His first level, Emerald Coast, was just beautiful. I could play that level again and again. It had that Sonic feel. It was the only 3D Sonic game that got it right. It became 3D just like Mario did. Emerald Coast is more than one could ask for, for a 3D Sonic game. This is the same for Green Hill zone in Sonic Adventure 2, and (to some degree) the first level in Sonic Adventure 2.

What happened to Sonic Adventure 2? The first level of Sonic Adventure 2 is amazing. Everything about it is so beautiful, and perfect. The music in the first level was from some stupid Rock band song. It didn't have it's own, original music, with its own, original charm. Another thing that bugged me was the the robotic characters. They were ugly. They were supposed to be animal robots. Not ugly, humanoid robots. And that's all it was. Ugly, humanoid robots, and a few other, ugly robots.

Although the rock band music in Sonic's first level was descent, the rock band music in his other levels were horrible. There was nothing charming, or original about them. When I got those running shoes, the real Sonic music would kick in, and I would temporarily experience a true Sonic game, with ass-kicking music, but the minute the running shoes wore off, and the music stopped, the hidious music came back. The music in Shadows levels are nothing.

Besides the music, and horrible enemies, I loved Sonic's and Shadow's levels. Now, this is where I started to hate the game. The horrible Tails's, and Eggman's levels. Why do they call him Eggman? He is not Eggman, he is Doctor Robotnik. His arms are too long. He looks different than his Genesis days, just like Sonic. I don't mind Sonic's new look, but Eggman just looks weird. Anyways, Eggman's and Tails's levels were boring, repetitive, and felt like chores. They were horrible, and meaningless. I didn't pay for this game to play horrible, pointless games like this. It's aweful. They aren't even fast, and they ride these stupid, robotic machines. I hate that. I want to play as Tails, not his machine. I want to fly with Tails, not jump around with his stupid machine. Dr. Robotnik should not be a playable character. The only characters that should be playable are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow. I hate Amy. She does not belong in the game.

The translation is horrible. The characters act too childish. Don't get me started with Tail's voice. It's as if Sonic baby sits Tails. Sonic acts more like a teen, like Shadow. Tails acts more like a child. Knuckles acts more like an adult. Eggman acts like an idiot. Amy acts like a little girl. Big the Cat acts like he's extremely stupid. And who the **** is that robot character? No. Get him away. He doesn't belong here. Rouge acts like a hooker, and looks like one too. What happened Sega? Why did you have to dilute the extreme fun of Sonic and Shadow's levels with these useless ones?

The worst levels are Rouge's and Knuckles. I get depressed just writing about them. They are boring, and stupid. I hate the rap in Knuckles levels. They are aweful. Why can't Tails and Knuckles play Sonic and Shadow's levels? Why do those other characters exist? WTF are those childish Chaos things? Why is the music and translation so bad? This is what ruined the other Sonic games. Sonic Adventure 2 is the second best 3D sonic game. I don't even like Knuckles that much. They should have stuck with Sonic, make Tails more mature, and believe it or not, but I kind of like Shadow. He's the only, cool, new character.

If you plan on buying this game, plan on enjoying 1/3 of it. I really, really, really hated Rouge's, and Knuckles levels. I also hated Tails's, and Eggman's levels. Some of Shadow's levels were bland, like some of Sonic's. The music is horrid. The story line is bad. You cannot call this a Sonic game. It's too oridinary. Where's the magic that was in Sonic the Hedgehog 2? Where's the creativity that was in Sonic the Hedgehog? Where's the puzzles that were in Sonic the Hedgehog 3? Where is the beauty that was in Sonic Adventure.

This is a joke. After playing the wonderful Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy and Sonic Adventure, this game is nothing. What is up with the skater music and skater themes, especially in the first level? What is up with the black music, probably being sung by a white person, in Knuckles hidious levels? WTF is Pumpkin Mountain? WTF are those stupid Chaos things doing in this game. Chaos Kindergarden? WTF. That's so childish. This isn't Sonic.

Shadow isn't the only fake hedgehog in this game. Sonic is too. No wonder older people, who used to play good games like Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, and Sonic the Hedgehog, went towards those awful shooting games, with nothing innovating, nothing inspiring, no beauty, no maturity, instead of mascots like Sonic. It's because of games like Sonic Adventure 2. It's because of games like Pac-Man World 3. It's because of games like Jak 2. These games are not necessarily bad, but they are considered childish, not because they are, but because of many stupid, boring things like Knuckles missions. Because older people find them boring, they assume it is childish, because they don't enjoy it. When I first played Sonic Adventure, I was inspired by the sheer fantastic sceneries, and happy, bright colors, with lushous green grass. When I played Sonic Adventure 2, it was depressing. Tail's and Eggman's levels were rather depressing, and too easy, and repetetive. Tails and Knuckles levels were childish, and so annoying. They have no replay value. Also, you cannot grow skills on such levels. You cannot have skills in the Eggman and Tails levels, because they are too easy, and you cannot have skills in the Rouge and Knuckles levels, because the stupid gems or keys are always placed on random spots.

I am not going to talk about the camera. It is bad. Enough said on that department.

The graphics are beautiful, but the sceneries are just too ugly, dark, and boring. Remeber Jak 2? Where is the beauty that was in Jak and Daxter? It's not there.

Why can't there be more games like Mario, Zelda, Crash Bandicoot, Donkey Kong, and Sonic's early years? Why can't 3D games be more like 2D games. I hate revisiting the same spots over and over again, collecting items. It's too repetetive. In 2D, slide scrolling games, there is one path, and one path only, which is fun, and you are always in new environments.

This is why I liked Sonic Adventure, because you go on one set path. You aren't all over the place like Knuckles and Rouge's levels, collecting items, revisiting the same areas over and over again. Walking around in circles like idiots. That's exactly what it has come to, and most 3D games suffered this. Some exceptions are Super Mario 64, and Zelda Ocarina, but Sonic and Crash are what more 3D games should be. Free-roaming games are too repetitive, and often times, you are revisiting the same area, again and again, collectin items and such. Could you imagine if you had to collect every single banana in Donkey Kong Country? That would have ruined the game. A set path is better, and funner. You see what is up ahead of you, and you use your skills to get past.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2. You are an utter let down.

The sad part is, 80% of video games are worse than Sonic Adventure 2. The thing about video games is that only a handful of 1% are amazing. 20% are okay. And the remaining 79% are awful.

I wish I could fix Sonic Adventure 2. I would immediatly. And I mean immediatley delete all of Tails's, Eggman's, Rouge's, and Knuckles levels. Immediately. Like, I wouldn't even be looking. I wouldn't even think twice. I wouldn't even play them one more time, before they are deleted from existence. I wouldn't even visualise scenes from the levels, before, as I, or after I delete them.

Next, I would delete all characters except Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, and Eggman.

Next, I would rename Eggman to Dr. Robotnik, and make him look like his original self. I would fix the translation, and all the glitches. I would replace all of the music. I would add more Sonic type levels. All characters, except Dr. Robotnik (he would be unplayable, and only appear as a boss), would be able to play all of the levels. You would have the option of playing Tails and Sonic at the same time (Tails would travel behind Sonic, as traditionally), or you could play Tails and Sonic by themselves. I would have to think about including Knuckles as a playable character, as well as Shadow. But if I included them, they would play the levels by themselves.

In Sonic Adventure 2, you had to make physical contact with the rings in order to get them. This is too awkward. When you are running too fast, collecting all of the rings is hard, if not, impossible. I would make Sonic pick up rings like Spyro picks up gems. It would be as if Sonic was a magnet, so that the rings come to Sonic, but only if Sonic was close enough. This would make things much easier, and less awkward.

The robots would all be replaced with animal robots, like traditionally. Notice that you have to repeat them level again in the other missions. How come you never had to repeat them in the 2D Sonics? Act 2 and Act 3 in the Genesis Sonic's didn't make you repeat Act 1, with a different mission. They were different levels, but looked identical. This should have been with all of the 3D Sonics. But, this was not the case.

There was so much potential wasted. 99% of video games could have had much more potential, but didn't, because they had to have gay things. All video games could have been much better, but the magic that once beheld video games in the past, is now gone. It seems like newer video games today exist, only because they have to. After every movie, a game of that movie is made, that only exists to boost sales of that movie. Every year, a new sports game, of the same sport, is made, just to change the title from NHL 2006 to NHL 2007. The video game industry has been fludded with crap. It always has been. But characters like Mario, Sonic, and Crash, were what games should have been. Sonic resembled that completeley, until it recently became no better than the flood of crap that the video industry has come to have.

I am still waiting for Sonic Adventure 2. In my book, it still hasn't arrived

When you grow up with real games like Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, and Sonic the Hedgehog 2, you have reason to compare other games to these masterpieces. When you grow up with games like Tomb Raider, Gears of War, 007, Metal Gear Solid, and Resident Evil, which by no means has any inspiration, but mindless violence, hatred, and darkness, that's when you view the masterpieces as childish. Most of these people have never even played the masterpieces, yet assuming by the look of the cover of the game, decide that they are, and continue filling their minds with dirt.

This is why Nintendo doesn't have GTA and and other such games. Yet, Nintendo still isn't perfect, for having other M-rated games. Nintendo has innovation, and brilliance, without the violence and such. Nintendo didn't want to make games with violence, because they didn't want to fill people's minds with hatred and disgust. But no, you assholes out there decided that Nintendo was childish because of its limited M-rated games, and now the Wii is making more violent games just like the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. Sega also didn't want violent games, and this is why it failed, because people today have no imagination, and have their minds filled with senseless crap. However, Sonic was so powerful, that even those who have seen nothing but, and enjoyed nothing but violence, just couldn't escape the wonderous, happy environments Sonic had to offer. Sonic lost that power.

But Sonic Adventure 2? Green Hill Zone and the very first level is proof of what a true 3D Sonic game could have been. It had potential, but it was wasted on the stupidest levels (Tail's/Eggman's) (Knuckles/Rouge's).

It deserves what I gave it. Sure I would have loved this game if I never played Sonic Adventure. I would have rated it a 4/5. But after playing games that are so good, like Okami and Twilight Princess, most other games, including Sonic Adventure 2, are bad.

THE GOOD:
It's perfect! The graphics are very good, and the sound is incredibly awesome. The durability is quite long because you still need to get all those emblems. It has lots of songs and levels to play, and after you beat the game you still have to take care of your Chao and get the downloadable content. It's a great game!!

THE BAD:
Sometimes the camera doesn't turn correctly, and some people find it hard to play because of the speed factor, but everyone can do it with some habit.

SUMMARY:
This game is a very good game for Dreamcast and those people, that think Sonic is only for kids, are wrong. This game is very entertaining and it's an awesome title for Dreamcast, it's certainly my favourite Sonic game. Please play this game, it's awesome!
"Playing SA2 is habit forming! Don't turn off!"

The new Sonic game, a sequel to Sonic Adventure.
Highly anticipated by most Dreamcast owners. Is it a worthy sequel?

Gameplay
-

What is immediately obvious when playing the game is the lack of any ''adventure fields''. These fields were an integral part of the original Sonic Adventure experience. These fields held a bigger interaction with the environment and were fun to walk around in. Also using these fields little puzzles were to be solved. I myself liked this, as it was different from the former Sonic games.
Sonic Adventure 2 goes back to the original formula. You are presented a movie, which tells part of the story line and then you are placed in a level with a certain mission. This is like the first Sonic Adventure, as there are multiple missions to be done.

The mechanics of a level depends on the character you play with. There are three characters in hero mode and three in dark mode (I explain these modes in the story section below). Sonic has the style everyone knows by now. Go to the end of the level. Tails moves around in a machine (which is a transformation of his plane) and shoots like the robot in the first game (Actually he is just a clone of the robot in a good disguise). Then there is Knuckles. His gameplay is also still the same as the first game. This means he has to find three parts of the Master Emerald in the level. This works according to a hot/cold principle. The three characters in the dark mode have the same divisions, with some slight alterations.
The Sonic/Shadow levels are very impressive. If you were impressed when you saw Sonic Adventure prepare to be impressed again. But this is were it ends. The Tails/Eggman levels are a big bore and the Knuckles/Rouge levels can be a big pain. There are mini games and you can play with the Chao creatures. But these are just bonuses.
In the first game you had Amy, Big, Tails (no cramped machine there), the robot (original there) and of course Sonic. This was all something different. Now you have every character copied (''doubling the gameplay'', yeah right), but essentially the game shrunk considering gameplay.

Graphics
-

The graphics are very very good. Easily one of the best looking games on the Dreamcast. When you play with Sonic you don't really notice it all the time, because it goes all so fast. But when playing with Knuckles you can really explore all parts of a level. Nice sharp textures and colours. I also like the screen announcing the level and mission before a level. Every character has its own colour scheme. The characters themselves changed a bit too. Especially Sonic is more defined. When Eggman is not in a machine he looks really nice. He seems much taller compared to the older Sonic games.

The pre-rendered movies are not that good compared to the realtime graphics. Sure, there are all kinds of effects which can not be done in realtime (yet), but I think they distance you from a story which you are supposed to be completely taken up in. The camera is a big problem sometimes. I don't consider myself a person who is annoyed quickly by camera problems (I played Spawn which supposedly has very serious camera problems and was fine and loved the game), but this is bad. It is mostly noticeable in the
Knuckles/Rouge levels, because you have to turn and look around when you explore the level. The other levels don't have this problem as they are more linear.

Sound
-

The game immediately starts out with a ''rock'' track. I'm not particularly fond of these kind of tracks and would rather don't hear them at all, but this game relies on them quite a bit.
I can understand how they fit in some places though, but there just is not enough variety.
None of the tracks I heard were memorable. I haven't heard a gem like the track played in the ''Lost world'' in the first game. That track was simply amazing and so was the level. But I digress. There are also some rap/techno/drum & bass tracks. I find the rap tracks pretty amusing. Hearing some rapper rap about the Master Emerald.
The character themes are back also without big change. This is a bad thing as I never liked them, but if you do you will be happy I guess.
The sound effects are good. Nothing too distracting or funny. It all just fits very well.
Hmmm, the voice acting hmmm. What to say? I'm no big fan of the way Sega uses English voice(actors). Most of the games their English voice acting is simply horrid (Shenmue, ouch). The English voices in this game are something I can handle though. It is nowhere near perfect, but it doesn't cause any nightmares either. If it gets out of hand just switch to the Japanese voices.

Story
-

Story? True, how much do you need for a game which is ''based'' on action like this one. Since it is considered an adventure and all, I would say a bit more. The story is made more interesting by the two different game modes. The hero and dark modes, which I already mentioned. The three characters in the dark mode are: Dr. Eggman, Rouge and Shadow, which are respectively ''clones'' of Tails, Knuckles and Sonic. They control the same.
So depending on which side you play, you experience the story from that side. There is not made use of this to a groundbreaking extent or anything. I actually got bored a couple of times watching the same cutscene twice.
The ''twists'' in the story (if they can even be classified as that) are laughable at most. Good dialogue? What is that?

The story of the first game was much better. It not also intertwined the stories more, but it had much more to it. Also the relation between different characters was much stronger, partly because of the better written story. I don't want to give spoilers here, but there are parts of the story which simply lack (I dare to say it) emotion.

Controls
-

Nearly the same as the first game. The controls are very tight and responsive and I never had problems using them.
The ''A'' button is always used to jump and the ''B'' button can be used to attack/look/pick up/etc. There are also other items which can be used like that.
You can rotate the camera angles with the r and l buttons. This is mostly used when playing with Knuckles/Rouge.
All in all, the control scheme is very solid.

Replayability
-

I will be playing the Sonic/Shadow levels again for sure. The Tails/Eggman levels are boring and I'm not planning to play the Knuckles/Rouge levels again (ever).
So, what is left besides a couple of cool levels? Some minigames and the Chao raising. If you really like that you will be playing the game for a long time. For me that just doesn't cut it.
The levels do have different missions, those will take some time to accomplish all.

Buy/Rent
-

Rent or borrow it, be amazed a couple of times, finish it, return it. It is a must to finish it once, but not a must to buy it.

The reason it still gets a 6 is because of the Sonic levels. Nice graphics don't make a game, they maybe make a bad game a bit more fun.
The improved graphics and the Sonic/Shadow levels are about the only good parts of this sequel. If you have never played the first game I suggest buying that one instead.

THE GOOD:
This game has good graphics, great sound, and great storyline.

THE BAD:
It's not as long as Adventure, because there are no Adventure Fields.

SUMMARY:
I really like this game, though I think the creators shouldn't have put Amy in. The game doesn't have any adventure fields (why is it still Adventure...), but the game isn't so good that no game compared... I personall gave it 4.5, so I really like it. I thought Adventure was a 4.7... I don't think this game was as genious as the creation of GameCube (I gave it's release 4.9), and an ARK andventure would have been da BOMB! Personally, I'm an Adventure Field kind of guy.

Don't buy this game unless you gave Sonic Adventure a least a 4.0...

Shadow, the Ultimate Life Form? Maybe the Ultimate Weapon, but Life Form... Come on!

Even the Prototype took ALL SEVEN Chaos Emeralds, twice, to destroy...

I hope this review hels!

THE GOOD:
beautiful environments, fast-paced action, dual storylines, Chao subquests

THE BAD:
camera control, voices, a bit repetitive

SUMMARY:
Let's get something straight. I was hardly the Sega Genesis gamer of yore, so I hardly had the opportunity to discover our blue blazing hero Sonic until I picked him up on the Dreamcast console. I am incredibly loyal to the role playing game genre, but I wanted a game, if anything, that could entertain company when I wasn't around. Sonic Adventure 2 was a bit pricey, but a friend at the local gaming store gave me her discount, so I gave it a shot.

When the game starts up, you have the option of playing the Hero or Dark storylines. Unfortunately, you still get the same tale -- just told through two different perspectives with more than obvious end results. You ever save the world or get to conquer it, simple as that.

While storylines are a dealbreaker for my approval of a game, with Sonic Adventure 2, that slight disappointment all but melted once I got involved in the quest. With that said, I didn't really care much for the "intro" sequence to each level. I just wanted to play, and play I did!

You'll quickly discover the different kinds of levels your troops will engage in. Sonic is responsible for meandering through the fast-paced, high-octane zooming levels. The blue guy blurs his way through city streets, forest jungles, and marine bases to infiltrate Dr. Eggman and his crew. Knuckles the Echidna embodies the spirit of Indiana Jones in his separate quests to pursue Chaos Emerald pieces; three to a zone, pick 'em up, and move on. The often whiny Tails has technology on his side. You'll use his mecha-gear in his levels, just your basic shoot-'em-up. (Your bad guy counterparts manuever through levels in the same fashion. Shadow to Sonic; Rouge to Knuckles; Dr. Eggman to Tails.)

Sonic Adventure 2 saves some gaming face by encouraging gamers to operate at top performance. The amount of time it takes to complete a level, your score, and the number of rings, animals, and jewels called Chaos Drives you collect, the better your rank will be. Diehard adventurer gamers will surely shoot for all A-rankings; to be honest, I scrapped by averaging C and below, and that was plenty alright for me. While not overbearing, the action suits gamers who are willing to scoot through the story or painstakingly push for top ranks. Either way, each stage has five different goals and with enough A's, you can unlock game secrets.

Even if you're not that serious about Sonic Adventure 2, you'll still have plenty of fun unlocking the two-player battle mode and the cart racing levels just the same.

Another diversion is the Chao World. Chao Keys are hidden in each level; once you find the key, finish the stage and the game teleports your character into the Chao World, essentially, a paradise in which you raise your lil' animal baby. Hatching a Chao Egg is indeed a labor of love, but once you do so, you are responsible for its care. Shake the fruit off the trees to feed the Chao. Introduce your Chao to the stray animals you find in each level, and your Chao will (strangely enough) start to morph into one of them; of course, it's fairly common to find a Chao with a peacock's tail, a sheep's skin, and a kitten's paws. (Chimera, anyone?) But, be careful. You'll need your Chao to bond with the right animals and the Chao Drive crystals in order to clean up at the racing stadium inside the waterfall's cave. And if you're done tearing up the tracks, you can always take your Chao to school -- it'll learn new skills like singing or shaking down its own fruit, and you can visit the school doctor to keep your baby healthy and happy!

Let's just say the Chao element helped making this adventure game into a partnership effort between me (the diehard level beater) and my best friend (who loved taking care of her lil' ones).

If the controls were a bit tighter and more receptive and the camera a bit better behaved, I would score Sonic Adventure 2 with perfect marks easily. No matter, what you've got here is a gaming gem -- an action-packed title that gets Sonic out of the Emerald Zone and into some of the greatest level design out there. Don't spin too fast. You might cramp your thumbs!

THE GOOD:
This game has excellent graphics and colorful levels and characters. The sound track is fun to listen to and matches the gameplay. The different styles of gameplay that come in this game are all different and fun. The levels are mostly different and unique, creative, and detailed. The boss fights are at a healthy difficulty level. and the kart racing is fun too. Enemies are a bit easie to kill, but fun to fight if you don't killing them right away. Chao's are also an interesting add-on, altho I don't know much about them myself, I know other people that found this portion to the game to be the best part.

THE BAD:
Voice acting is a little rough, and a few of the levels are similar, with the only difference being the character you play through it as.

SUMMARY:
This game is easily worth the money if you've got a Dreamcast. If you're thinking about buying a dreamcast, this game should definitly add to you reasons for buying it. Enjoy!

This game was just a little bit too easy to beat

SUMMARY:
This game is great, but it wasn't as good as the last one, this game is still great, the only bad side is that it was just a little too easy to beat. I would recommend this game to anybody who loves Sonic games and would like a new fun one to play.
