Opening Thoughts

Ported games have never seemed to be a huge hit on the DS, like Assassin's Creed. But this game may have turned the tide. It's got a great story like the main versions do, and it's got some pretty good modes going for it. The controls are awesome, the gameplay is also pretty well done. The controls and gameplay really complement each other. Another great thing about the game is the graphics. The main con of this game is the fact that there is no online game. The lack of WiFi is what has kept this game out of most gamers hands. It's a great game, and no WiFi doesn't really hold it back, online isn't a necessity in any game. The game's blend of graphics, controls, and gameplay make it the best shooter on the DS.

Story

The story is really great. Basically all Call of Duty games do have great story. But this is the first Call of Duty based in modern day. The story has a lot of common warfare elements seen today in it, such as missions with the goal to deactivate nuclear weapons. Basically, it's a show of what could happen in a modern day world war. It brings some interesting perspectives to the table. Basically though, the story is just a toned down one on the PC and console versions. The missions go from training missions to desert missions to missions on opponents boats.

Gameplay and Controls

Gameplay is what did it for me in Call of Duty 4. You use the touch screen and the buttons similar to the infamous Metroid Prime Hunters, but this game seems to have done it better with the gameplay. The touch screen works, because usually in this game there isn't so much going on that you are randomly shooting around, you're actually using the touch screen to look around and think and fire. It's not just a button mashing shooter, it takes some thinking as well. I really wouldn't go to an extent and so this an actual strategy requiring game, since most thinking you do is when you should shoot someone, or if you could get two at once. But some shooting games basically go, look, shoot, look, shoot, and keep shooting. The Call of Duty hasn't been like that, they try to get you in with a great story, and not anything else.

Controls. They are easily the best aspect of this game. The way this game controls, it could be the best on the DS. You move the stylus on the touch screen (bottom) and look on top. If you move it left, it looks left. You move it right, it looks right. The D-Pad is used to move if you're right handed, the 4 buttons if you're left handed. The similarly, the R button is the shoot/attack button if you're right handed, and the L button is if you're left handed.

Graphics and Audio

The graphics in this game are pretty good in this game for a DS game. Which really isn't surprised, since the Call of Duty series has always had great graphics. The textures and shading in this game are really good, and they load pretty fast. Normally DS games with good graphics have massive loading screens as an offset for those graphics, but this game is different, it runs pretty quickly with minimal loading screens.

Screens for your viewing pleasure

Audio, is an over looked aspect in most games, but in this game, it's definitely overlooked, but for good reason. Basically, there's some alright voice acting, and some shooting sounds, not much else. There's not much to harp on, or praise. That's all about the audio.

Closing Thoughts

Overall, with the massive line up of great DS games, no one seems to take time to admire this above average port. If you haven't played the console versions, it's definitely a great game, but if you have I'd just keep moving. This is a great game on the DS, but compared to the console games, it's nothing special. Basically, this game has decent graphics, good gameplay, great controls, and an awesome story. But it really doesn't get respect for it being a port. I'd say a rent would be better then a buy.
