Diddy Kong Racing DS Roundup - Metacritic
"A bloated space pig has taken control of Diddy Kong's Island paradise and only you can stop his nefarious plot. Take on this racing challenge as you drive, hover and fly your way across the massive island. This remastered take on a Nintendo 64 classic is sure to rev the engines of adventure racing fans everywhere."

"Diddy Kong Racing DS is a disappointing re-make and a generally decent but very undercooked racing game. One could say that this one’s a little too “Rare” for the liking."

"Diddy Kong Racing DS is a decent racer with plenty to do and some interesting new content, but the seemingly endless number of tasks you must complete to enjoy all of it may irritate anyone who simply wants to race."
"With plenty of racing options available on the DS, I can't think of a compelling reason to plunk down your hard earned cash on this game."
"...we'll note that the early portion doesn't quite offer the same sense of speed as Mario Kart DS does. This might be attributed to the fact that Diddy Kong Racing DS's engine runs at a casual 30 frames per second rate while Mario Kart DS flows at twice that. Diddy Kong Racing does, however, give players the ability to upgrade their vehicles, so we're expecting that as we get through many of the easier challenges that the faster crafts will make themselves available."
"Lag and dropped connections hasn't been much of an issue, but again -- we're playing Diddy Kong Racing a week before it ships. Once people start buying the game next week all that can (and will) change. And we're also playing against people we trust...we haven't experienced bastards who love to drop out of a race mid-session because they're losing, so we haven't seen how Rare handles this in-game. We did test out dropping out in the middle of a connection ourselves, and it seems that the game will continue if there's still at least two players connected. Good to know."
