THE GOOD:
The graphics are really retro, which is good if you like that.
Up to 8 minigames to play
5 challenges per game to complete
A nice surprise when you complete all challenges
Different genres of minigames

THE BAD:
No real in-depth storyline
Challenges are generally too easy
Must complete the first 4 challenges per game to get the next
No free-play until you've beaten the last game

SUMMARY:
Overall Retro Game Challenge is an entertaining game which has you set for a week, but that's about it.
If you're like me and love old-school games, this is one which you pick up and play away for a few hours easily.

It's a pity that you have to follow a set pattern. You have to complete the four challenges given and only then can you go and play the next minigame. In total there are 8 games, but with a nice diversity in genre.
There are flight shooters, action, racing and even a full RPG.
The downside of the 8 games is that you get two similar games: Rally King and Rally King SP which stands for Special Edition, but is just more of the same and you get a part 1, 2 and 3 of a game, but that is actually nice because the games are different from each other, especially the third one.

Ingame you play the challenges that are given to you by Game Master Akiro, which is so obsessed with games he transported a kid-version of himself to his console back in time. Now you step in and become his competitor, playing with his former self to complete the challenges. His kid version just cheers you on and gets frustrated in games when you play bad. That actually gets you frustrated as well, so it adds to the atmosphere. Unfortunately that's all there is to the storyline, so nothing too deep.

The RPG itself is worth mentioning again though, because it's a full RPG. While you can't expect anything like astounding graphics it has enough to entertain you. It may remind some of Earthbound because of it's clunky nature. You press A and the screen pops up with a view options to choose from. The RPG works with an 8 figure system, 3 which indicate the probability of hitting an enemy, the other five indicate strength.
The RPG doesn't have a very deep storyline and the plot is easily predictable, but it's still fun. The game actually only has one big dungeon with 4 floors, but the enemies get harder with every floor, so you really have to level up a lot before you can complete the last challenge given to you by the Game Master. It's a nice addition to the other games and if you really like Japanese style RPG's, you're bound to love this one too.

In the end, I'll say again that if you love old-school games this is a really easy pick-up game to play for a few hours when bored. No deep story or too hard games, just old-school fun and if that's what you're looking for, get it!
