Tetris DS

THE BAD:
Somwhat limited in the amount of variety

SUMMARY:
I have to admit, i was a bit skeptical about buying this game at first. I thought that i wouldn't be addicted to it like the original because it wasn't the original. But then i played multiplayer with a friend who had a copy and i realized what i had been missing.

At it's core, this game is the same as the original tetris. You have different blocks which you have to put into lines, and when a whole line is filled, it disappears. Getting more than one line at a time gives more points.

But once you see all the games little quirks, you realize that Nintendo actually one-upped the original Tetris. You now have the ability to hold a block that you can't use, or hold a block to save for a combo, and all you have to do is press the R button. This is a life saver when you need to clear all those lines but the long block is nowhere in sight. You also can see where the block will go on the stack of blocks with its "shadow" directly beneath it, and by simply pressing up on the dpad the block will be placed in that spot instantly.

And there's even more. With only one copy of this game, you can battle up to eight friends. While battling, if you rack up a combo, one of the other players will get a stack of gray blocks to deal with. Also, you can play with other people online via the WiFi connection. You can play with or without items, and in a unique push mode. You and your opponent try to push the blocks back and forth until one of the player's blocks has crossed the line.

I highly reccomend this game to anyone who owns a DS. This game has everything you expect from a puzzle game plus more. The simplicity will confound you, and yet you won't put it down. Just try and quit when you and a friend are neck and neck; i dare you.
