It seems that Square-Enix are so popular, that any game they announce will garner more attention than there is for the amount of IQ points Einstein possesses, times a hundred thousand, and it was best shown with this game. Among release, I decided to go out and buy this, however, it seemed that there were no copies about twenty minutes after the stores opened (which was when I went to the first game store). After a few weeks of dealing with this, I just went "screw this" and borrowed my friend's copy. The words he spoke upon me borrowing this echoed throughout my head - "it's not all that good". It holds true, even after the first time I played it; it really isn't all that good. It isn't as good as what everybody said, but upon some research, I found that the major contributing factors to the success of this game, lied in the paid reviewers who get paid to up the hype of already overhyped games, and Square-Enix fanboys who think that every RPG they make that is extremely mainstream...
Opening Thoughts
This game isn't bad, nor is it as great as everyone makes it out to be. The game starts out very unique, and stays that way throughout the game, but I don't know how good of a thing that is. Basically, due to the way the games controls are, you'd have to be very good at multitasking to get used to this thing straight off. It took me awhile to get used to it, just because of how unique of a game it is. This is the first game I've ever played on the DS that use both screens resourcefully at the same time! It's a difficult challenge, but it's interesting and intriguing and one of the things that draw most people into the game. The other main thing that makes this game a lot different then other games is the art style. The game feels sort of like an urban setting, due to all of the graffiti and gang style drawings in the game. It offers a chilling fear, since the plot is pretty disturbing if you...
![]() The World Ends With You is a strange little game even before you start playing. It's rare that a game that is the first in its series to garner so much hype and praise that this game has achieved. Then again, Square Enix are the ones behind it, and considering that the game has quite a resemblance to their other high profile series then it shouldn't be so surprising. The question comes down to whether the game is really deserving of all that praise though. The visuals are mostly on the good side, although there are a few issues that don't come across as well. The art style is very nice, with half body artworks of characters sliding around on the top screen during conversations. It's bold and quite colourful. These sprites also work well to convey the emotions, as each character has multiple artworks to fit the moment. There's no real...
THE GOOD:
~Unique battle system, utilizing both of the DS's screens, especially the Touch Screen. ~Engaging storyline ensures that there is never a dull moment. ~Keeping modesty in a great game: the creators make spiffy effects when they're needed, and leave off when they aren't. ~Exceptional audio, featuring J-Pop music and keeping with the setting of modern-day Shibuya. ~A mini-game is added, which lets you play with other people, even if they don't own the game themselves. ~Filling out charts, finding pins, and generally maxing out your stats causes the replay value of this game to skyrocket. ~The art is amazing, with backdrops of actual icons of Shibuya and well-drawn characters. ~Cut scenes are extremely smooth, and add just the right amount of tension to certain scenes. THE BAD:
Reviewing "TWEWY" is as about as appealing as attempting to eat fish and chips in the middle of a flock of seagulls, as one word said against this supposedly ground-breaking game is going to send the seething, feathered masses of the internet into a frenzy of eyeball-pecking and spontaneous bowel movements. Unfortunately, in order to provide a truthful review I'm going to have to mention the game is an over-hyped and under-developed mess eventually, so I suppose I may as well get my raincoat on right from the start.
TWEWY gets off to a great start with the main character, a wafer-thin social outcast with an obnoxiously Japanese name (Neku) who hates everyone and everything around him. Writing likable lead characters is so cliché, so I have to appreciate a game that makes my dream of an infant boxing simulator (the main character of which being a velociraptor) a more feasible product to market. Of course, this honeymoon doesn't last long after the introduction of...
THE GOOD:
Plenty of things to list here. The game is very unique and pretty much one of a kind. It was made by the makers of Kingdom Hearts, as you can tell, Neku and Sora kinda look the same. Here is a list of what I think is some very good points in the game. -The graphics are stunning -Story is really long and it keeps you playing for a long time -Character designs are awesome. -A lot of things to collect -Amazing Plot Twists -Different battle system THE BAD: SUMMARY:

THE BAD: SUMMARY: ![]() Every once in awhile a game comes along that redefines a genre. This game raises the bar in every possible way, from the graphics to the audio to the story, and most importantly, the gameplay. This game tries to do everything in a way that hasn't been done before, and it succeeds. The World Ends With You is that game. The World Ends With You is a quirky action RPG from Square-Enix, the developers behind the well known franchises of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. The company has consistently... Lowest Prices |
