What Theresia's got going for it is mood: This is a supremely lonely game. You start by playing as a girl with amnesia who wakes up in a creepy, dungeon-like facility, weaving past corpses and creatures spread throughout the basement floors. The onscreen text is a dry first-person narrative, with bits of story revealed via flashbacks and scattered journal entries. It mostly works, but it also means that you don't get a lot of help if you're stuck. And you're often walking past doors that you can't open at the moment, so it's not always a sure thing that you're actually progressing until you step into the one area that finally ends the chapter. Again, those with a mind for puzzles and pestilence may be able to stick with Theresia, but discerning adventure fans -- who at least like their games to move faster than a snail's pace -- can skip it with little shame.
