SUMMARY:
Megaman Battle Network is a popular franchise that's been going since 2001. It all started with Megaman Battle Network. Then in 2002, Megaman Battle Network 2 came out. Fans of the series were exited to hear it, and it's popularity was growing. In 2003, Megaman Battle Network 3 came out, with 2 different versions; White and Blue. There were small differences, mainly the Gigachip you get in the game. Finally, in 2004, Megaman Battle Network Red Sun and Blue Moon were released. The series of games had gained a lot of popularity since 2001, and the game sold well. In 05 and 06, Megaman Colonal and Protoman, along with Falzar and Gregar came out, respectively. To put it simply, this is one of the few series of games that managed to pull off a nicely done project every year for 6 years. They really gave us what we wanted in Red Sun, so let's get into it a bit more now.

Gameplay 10 / 10

Wow. There's just so much to do. The gameplay is incredible. First things first. Megaman is a Navi that is stored in the main character's PET - Personal Terminal. The main character, Lan Hikari, can use Megaman to enter the cyberspace world of different electronics. This uncovers an entirely new world to explore. It's a unique and incredible concept. The NET World is gigantic.

It says Blue Moon, but it's the same opening

The battle system is unique and addictive, not to mention innovative and amazing. In this game, you'll run around as Megaman in Cyberspace and encounter random battles. The battles take place on 2 3x3 areas. You control 9 panels, and your opponent controls the other 9. You cannot step on your opponent's panels, but certain chips may break them, or steal them for your own. Once these battles start, you'll get a screen showing on your left side. On this screen contains Battle Chips. You'll get 5 to start the battle. Each Chip has a Letter on it, as well as a color. Chips are your weapons in battle. They are each unique in so many ways, and have different ranges and deal different amounts of damage. Not to mention they all have elements as well, which can either be doubly effective or half as effective on some foes. The Standard Chips are Grey, and you can collect 150 of them. The Megachips are Blue and there are 60 of them. The Gigachips are red and you can collect 5 of them. When selecting your chips each round in battle, you can only use them together in a certain way. You can use any chips that have the same letter as each other, as well as Asterisk chips (*) which are like wild card chips. You can also use as many chips of the same type, such as 4 Swords. You can have 4 of one kind of Standard Chip in your folder, 5 Megachips in your folder with no repeats, and one Gigachip in your folder. Your folder can contain no more or no less than 30 chips. You can also use chips together to preform a Program advance, which usually consist of the same chip of different letters, such as Cannon A, Cannon B, and Cannon C. These combined would create a Program Advanced and make the ZCannon1. This Particular program advance allows you unlimited cannon firing for 5 seconds, which is far better than using the 3 cannons separately which only do 40 damage each. There is another type of Program Advanced where the chips don't have to be exactly the same. The first example of this is the Life Sword. Sword S, Widesword S, and Longsword S are not the same chip, but they are in the same category. And if you use them together in that order, you'll get a Life Sword instead, which does 400 damage (beating out the 240 you could have done) and the sword covers an entire 2x3 panel area. Be careful when planning out your folder, and try to use some of the more common letters of chips so you'll be able to pull out as many as possible each turn. At the top of the screen, there is a Custom Gauge. You cannot return to your Chip menu until that is filled, so the more you have on hand each turn, the better. You'll always have 5 each time you go back to the Chip Screen, so don't worry about how many you use.

Beginning of Game Tutorial
All you need to know about Virus Busting!

Alright, time to talk about DoubleSoul. DoubleSoul is a skill you acquire after your first battle of the Red Sun Tournament - hence the name of the game. Throughout your entire 3 playthroughs you'll obtain 6 souls to use the DoubleSoul ability with. 3 Souls in the first game on Easy Mode, 2 in Normal, and 1 on Hard. The 6 souls you get will depend on whether you have Red sun or Blue Moon. Personally, I think the souls on Red Sun are better. What they are exactly, are the souls of past Navis that you have defeated. Navi being another program like Megaman on the NET. After you obtain the ability to use a particular Soul, you use it by selecting a chip in the Custom Chip screen during your battles and pressing the Soul button. You can only use the chips with the type of the Soul to use the DoubleSoul ability. For example, Gutsman gives you the Gut Soul after you beat him in the tournament. You can use the Double Soul ability to be Gutsman by using a chip such as Magnum. Ground Chips. Other Navis such as Roll are Heal Navis, so you use their DoubleSoul by selecting a Heal Chip. Using a chip to DoubleSoul with a Navi will not allow you to use that chip in the particular battle, but it wont erase it for good, so don't fear to use DoubleSoul. DoubleSouls allow you to transform into the Navi that you selected for 3 turns. During these turns, you can use their special B Charge Move, and most of the time they also give you a boost on any chip you use of their type. So if you use Gut Soul and then use more Ground Chips, they'll do extra damage. With Roll Soul, every chip you use will recover your HP by a certain amount. Her Charge B attack makes your opponent lose all their chips for that turn. Some viruses have chips, but this is particularly useful in Link battles with friends. Use your DoubleSoul ability well.

Just to get the concept of Double Soul

Ok, it's time to talk about the NaviCust. The NaviCust is your Navi Customizer that you receive pretty early in the game. This allows you to use Programs that you buy on the net or find in Data to place on a Grid like Customizer. Programs are different sizes, colors, shapes, some are blocky and some are smooth. There is one row of squares in the Customizer that has lines through it. These squares cannot have any Blocky Program pieces in them. If you do put blocky pieces in them, it will cause Megaman to have a glitch, such as HP draining, or Megabuster not always firing, depending on how messed up you did. Programs with no blocks have to have at least one square on the squares with lines. If you do not put a part of them on the lined section, this will also create a glitch. Furthermore, no 2 colors of the same can touch each other. Your NaviCust will get bigger as you progress through the game. Well, actually, there are 2 Mystery Data in the entire Cyberworld that give your NaviCust an upgrade. It is crucial to find and get these 2 Data so you can expand your NaviCust and add more programs to it to give you the advantage in battle. Certain programs will allow you to raise your MegaBuster Power, Charge Speed, and how fast you can shoot it. Some even allow you to start out with more than 5 chips. Other programs can also raise your HP, or give you advantage on certain field types. Here's the NaviCust in action.

When you first get your NaviCust

Ok next let's talk about the Emotion window. This window is a mugshot of what Megaman feels like at the current time. These Range from Anger to Worried, to Focused. Most of the time it will be normal, but when you counter an enemy (hit them with an attack right before they attack) you'll go into Full Synchro Mode. This mode doubles the power of your next chip, and ends when you get hit, when you use a chip, or when you fail to get another Counter. You can continue Full Synchro Mode if you continue Countering enemies. Next is the Worried/Anxious Face, this happens when the fight is not playing in Megaman's Favor. In this case, Darkchips will appear, which I suggest you not use, as they are incredibly powerful but then cause bugs, turn Megaman's Soul slightly towards the Dark Side, and make you lose 1 HP permanently. However, some chips can only be used when you are good, and some chips can only be used when bad. There are very few secret Dark chips to collect. Under 10. Megaman's Worried state also disables the use of Uniting with other Navis using DoublelSoul. The Worried state will go away after a few turns, or when Megaman Counters an enemy. Last is the Rage emotion. This is similar to Full Synchro. This occurs when Megaman is hit several times in a short period of time. He will become enraged, and the next chip he uses does Double Damage. Rage will go away after this, or if you Counter a Virus Attack, you'll switch to Full Syncrho Mode. Be Aware of your Emotions!

Top Left - Under HP
Emotion; Full Synchro

Time to discuss Stage types. There are many different types of panels, as you may have noticed in some of the previous videos. Certain chips can change panels, and some battles start out with different panels. There are Normal, Poison, Ice, Lava, Grass, Metal, Cracked, Broken and Holy Panels. Normal do nothing, Poison slowly saps your HP, Ice makes you slide, Lava does 50 Damage when stepped on and can be cleared with water attacks. Grass causes you to take double damage from Fire Attacks, Metal cannot be broken, Cracked will Break when stepped on, and Broken cannot be stepped on. Broken panels will repair themselves after a short period oof time. Holy Panels reduce any damage to half as long as you are standing on it. Note your attention to the panels and use them to your advantage. Surprise, another video.

See all of the panel types in this video

Last topic, Mystery Data. Mystery Data is very important and can be found all over Cyberspace. There are 4 different kinds of Mystery Data. Green, the most common. Green Data can be located in random places all around Cyberspace, and will even reappear when you Go out and back into Cyberspace, although not always in the same place. This kind of Data contains common chips and low to moderate amounts of Zenny. Blue, usually contains HP Memory, Programs, or Valuable Chips. Keep an eye out for them. Purple, which are Locked Data and must have an Unlocker Subchip to open. These cost 4,000 Zenny. And Yellow, the Super Rare Data, where you never know what you're going to get. These appear randomly. Good luck Data Hunting!

Battle Network 3 was all I could find
A taste of Getting Mystery Data, Wondering the NET,
Buying from shops, Chip Folders, you know, The Basics

Now it's time for a few things I didn't mention that probably don't need an entire Paragraph devoted to them. You can link battle with your friends, Single or Triple battles. You can do Ranked matches or just for fun. In Ranked Matches, the loser forfeits a random chip from his inventory. The stages are random and contain all kinds of crazy traps and panels.

You can Jack into just about any electronic device, so keep an eye out, because they all have at least one Mystery Data to collect.

You can find and buy Subchips. Things like Mini-Energy and Unlocker. They can recover your HP while you're in Cyberspace (not during battles) or even unlock rare Data. Some will allow you to find the enemy you just fought easier, if you're searching for a chip.

Each time you defeat an enemy, you'll either get Health, Zenny (Money) or a Chip.

HP Memory is valuable. It'll raise your max HP by 20 forever. It adds up to a lot if you get them all. If bought at a shop, most merchants have 3-5. The price will double each time.

There is a Dark place in Cyberspace called the Undernet. The citizens of this part in Cyberspace will resort to dirty tricks and thievery. The battles in the Undernet are particularly hard, so be careful and watch your back.

If a Green Mystery Data shows up in a battle and you win the battle without destroying it, you'll get an extra prize or some Bugfrags, which can be used to buy Rare items.

There is a Chip Trader and a Bugfrag Trader as well. There is a 3 chip and 10 Chip Trader. You put in the required amount of Chips or Bugfrags and out comes a new chip. It's entirely random, and the game saves after, so don't put in any chips you can't afford to lose! You can also buy Items and Programs with Bugfrags from certain vendors, usually in the Undernet.

Megaman can fire shots from his Mega Buster even when you don't have chips. The power and speed at which he fires can vary depending on the programs in your NaviCust. Fire by pressing B. Use chips by pressing A.

Graphics 10 / 10

Haha. Finally, onto the next section. Here we will discuss the Graphics of the game. In Megaman Battle Network 4: Red Sun, the graphics are the best so far. They keep up with their generation, are pleasant to look at, and are perfect for this game. There's really not much, if anything, bad you can say about the Graphics in Battle Network 4. They're a good use of sprites, and well done overall. This game should be commended for it's graphics as they fit into everything this game represents. At this point, there aren't many video's I haven't showed you, so you'll just have to accept this one. Of course, if you watched any of the previous videos, you get the idea. In a way, this could just be another fun bit of the game to enjoy watching.

Music 10 / 10

There's lots of different music and sound effects in this game if you haven't heard from the battles already. In the background while wandering cyberspace, or when fighting a virus. Even Boss battles have their own music, and the chips make sounds when they hit an enemy. There's plenty of different music to enjoy in this game whether you pay attention to it, or if it's just Background music to you. And if you don't like it, well you can always turn it off. Time for the Opening Theme.

Like I said, Opening Theme Music

Story 10 / 10

Ok, so maybe it lacks a little bit of originality. It's another one of those games where something crazy happens, someone is trying to take over the world, and it's your job to stop them. However, as cliche as it may sound, this is an excellent game. It's already got Graphics and Music to back it up, and Gameplay for sure.

The actual story is that a group called Nebula is trying to corrupt the World using Dark Chips - Chips with immense power that taint the user's Soul. Meanwhile, Scientists at NAXA discover an Asteroid heading towards Earth. They try to use a laser to divert it's path, but when that fails, they decide send a Net Navi to the Asteroid's Cyberspace to change it's course of direction. The Red Sun tournament is held which turns into a National Event. The winner of this Tournament is the chosen one to go up and stop the Asteroid, destroy the Evil power within, and change it's Course. And of course, it's Game Over until you win the Tournament. In between these Tournament Matches, Nebula will be meddling with affairs to make matters more difficult, so it's not just a simple 4 Match Tournament. It turns into an incredible task.

A Funny Tutorial with help on how to
Defeat one of the main Bad Guys; Shademan

Overall 40 / 40

Awesome. Another 5/5 for another great game. This game has so much gameplay papcked into it, and so much to explain and describe. The best way for you to understand it is to play it yourself. This is a unique game like no other, with random battles, Limited but still Action Battle System, the use of Battle Chips to attack. All the good graphics, nice music, different chips to experiment with, and the entire originality of the game in General. This is a Great game for almost anybody. It's an RPG but it's not, it's Action but it's not. It has a little bit of everything for everybody. Megaman Battle Network: Red Sun has been sitting on the shelf for a while, so you'll find it's price even cheaper. This game is amazing, will last you hours, and is worth every penny. I'd gladly pay $100 as I'd still be getting my money's worth and then some. Grab a copy as soon as possible, this is one of the best games out there for the GBA!

GBA  MMBN4 Passes with a C- 3.5

THE GOOD:
Souls are slightly better than styles
Free tournaments
Folder building is more challenging
Battle graphics although a bit small are quite detailed

THE BAD:
Three playthroughs at LEAST to complete everything
Annoying horrid music
One of the worst storylines i've seen
Terrible, terrible english

SUMMARY:
Let's get cracking.

Graphics - 9/10
I thoroughly disliked the previous 3 Battle Network games' graphics. However in BN4, they totally changed the look of the graphics. The sprites were smaller, the maps were smaller and everything was brighter. I didn't really mind these changes alot but the thing which made BN4's graphics so special was the design. I loved the design to every detail, the way the viruses looked and Megaman's souls. My only criticism is that the graphics were a bit small and out of proportion.

Storyline - 1/10
At first I thought, oh yay, cool, tournaments, nothing but pure battle right? Wrong. Before EVERY SINGLE battle you have to HELP the opponent in some way. They're the enemy, who HELPS THE ENEMY? So I thought, okay, cool, at least I only have to do it once and everything's finished. Wrong. To complete every single aspect of this game, you need to play through the SAME storyline THREE times.

Music - 0/10
THIS. IS. ANNOYING. I don't think I can even REFER to it as music. More like annoying sounds. The crisis music is annoying as hell, there's also an annoying beeping sound for each word scrolled across the screen when the character is talking. Only ever play with the sound off.

Souls - 8/10
Finally another good aspect of MMBN4. The souls system replaces the styles system. I think this is a much better change considering each battle is unique in a different way. The souls have more useful abilities such as double damage for a certain elemental chip. To change into a soul, you have to sacrifice a chip of the corresponding element. Each soul lasts for three turns. Along with the souls system is Megaman's emotional state. Megaman has four states. Anger, Worried, Normal and Full Synchro. If Megaman is in worried mode, he cannot soul unison. If he is in Anger mode he doesn't flinch after being hit and the next chip will deal double damage. If Megaman is in full synchro mode, the next chip will deal double damage but he will still flinch after attacks.

Folder Building - 10/10
This is truly the age of folder building. Back in MMBN3 and MMBN2, I felt folder building was too easy. In MMBN4, they made it harder and more challenging which I thought was great. The same folder building rules still apply and they've introduced more interesting chips. Along with the return of a very infamous P.A from MMBN2.

Overall - 6/10
Good try Capcom, fix up the storyline, the typos, the music and then you get 10/10 and a =)

THE GOOD:
The good part was the brand new Soul feautre allowing you to combine souls with other navis, also making it more fun.

Ateleast it had tournaments so that you and 4 other friends could play though

Maybe next time they could actually find a storyline though because to be honest, it is one of the worst i've ever seen if not is the worst ever,

THE BAD:
Too many to list in here but i'll list a few that I opinion wise thought suckeed ass. Folders are one, construcing a folder was hard specially because of the restrictions, sound was horrible, even the previous installment did better. And lastly, storyline, definetly sucked as if the only thing you did was play in tournaments.

SUMMARY:
I'd try looking for a better game unless your one of those mega fans who enjoys playing these type of games.

THE GOOD:
This game is good in a way because of the new Souls. It has different style from Megaman 1-3.

THE BAD:
The bad part of this game is that once you beat it, you wil have to start everything over again. You can only use 5 battle chips at a time. No add option.

SUMMARY:
The game has good details, newer battle chips.
New enemies, and new friends. Different people, newer missions. Alittle easier then Megaman Battle Network 1-3. You can use Old friends powers and have combine Navis. Only can use 5 chips at a time. Megaman looks smaller then 1-3. Boss are a lot harder to beat and with soul too. This game is short and fast to beat. Need more weapons like in Megaman Battle Network 3 blue. The ending is way different from the others it surprising a bit. Over all this game is so-so its not that bad and not that good. It has its good sides and bad sides.

GBA  Jack in, Megaman! Execute!! 4.7

THE GOOD:
  • Hey... It's Megaman!
  • Superb graphics for being a GBA system.
  • Many different NetBattlers and characters to meet.
  • Unite with other Navis' souls to become even stronger (RollSoul, GutsSoul, WindSoul, etc...)
  • There are over 100 battle chips to find.
  • Customize Megaman with the NaviCust programmes.
  • The new concept of Dark Chips. If you use them, you'll get stronger. On the other hand, your navi's HP will shrink to 1 and you won't be able to unite with other souls.
  • Tons of places to visit.
  • The three tournaments you participate in: Den Tournament, Eagle Tournament and Red Sun Tournament.
  • Use a link cable or a wireless adapter to challenge your friends and/or exchange battle chips and NaviCust programmes.

    THE BAD:

  • The random battles can get really annoying if you are in a hurry.
  • Having low HP and being attacked suddenly by a big crowd of enemies.
  • You cannot play as Dex, Mayl or Yai... :-/
  • The missions you have to solve before a new tournament fight can get pretty annoying.

    SUMMARY:
Megaman Battle Network 4 Red Sun is one of the funniest games I've ever played on my GameBoy Advance. And being honest, it's the first Megaman game I ever played. I liked the NT Warrior anime a lot, and then I thought of buying a Megaman game, and seeing as Red Sun and Blue Moon were the latest games, I decided to get Red Sun, while my brother got Blue Moon.
I really recommend this game to the anime fans and to all those people who have played previous Megaman games.

    THE GOOD:
The new soul unison system, excellent sprites, more detailed battle system. Random tournament sequences for each game keep it interesting. Mix of old characters and new. Occassional mini-games as well.

    THE BAD:
There are, of course, the occasional annoying searches, like Videoman when you have to walk backwards, but it all comes together as part of the game.

    SUMMARY:
Another great installment to the series. The sprites are twice as good as the last. Some of the mugshots are a little unorthodox and the occasional annoyance, but all together its a great game. The full storyline is rather short, compared to its predeccessor, but the mastering of skills and collection of key items make it more lengthy, as well as the bonuses of extra souls, chips, and level, it makes it worth it to go through the game in its harder difficulties when you have the free time.

    THE GOOD:
Soul Unison, dark chips, An emotion system put into the battles, graphics got a bit better

    THE BAD:
If you've played the other battle network games this one might seem a bit easier from experience, the acdc area has been reduced quite a bit, and the characters look smaller.

    SUMMARY:
Red Sun is the first version to come out for the fourth battle network series and I must say I'm impressed and a little dissappointed. Let me start with what impressed me. The new battle system is wonderful. There is now a new uh sort of emotion system built into the game that changes how megaman operates. There is anger, full syncrho, timidity, dark, and normal. Each having its effects. You can't add chips to your battle choosing like the others, but it isn't much so its ok. The Soul unison is also part of battle but you should get the game to see how that's like.

I was dissappointed by how much they took out of ACDC and how the character sizes became smaller. Although this is a bit of setback the graphics have become better and there are more places to go.

    THE GOOD:
Entertaining game with good gameplay and fun battles.

    THE BAD:
Sometimes you don't have a very clear idea of where you should be going.

    The storyline.

    SUMMARY:
Control Lan and his navi MegaMan.exe as they delete viruses on the net and fight their way through tournaments to obtain the title of "number one netbattler." Little do they know the winner of this series of contests may be the only one who is capable of stopping the world from a head on collision with a meteor.

Fighting viruses on the net can get a little repetitive, so it's a good thing the gameplay changes up occasionally and you have a different objective!

This game is perfect for those of that you like a challenge; after completing the game the first time, you get to play again on hard mode, then again on super hard mode!

There's no better way to determine if you like the game than by trying it out for yourself. Go pick it up today!

    THE GOOD:
It's the 4th in the series and has been thoroughly developed and improved!

    THE BAD:
It has still not been translated into ENGLISH!!!
    -That's why i gave it '4'

    SUMMARY:
The game has added onto the already successful MMBN series and has improved on a brilliantly fun game; if you don't mind not understanding the storyline. The graphics look great and the controls are easy and if you''re a first timer you can just 'pick up n play'.

If you're not a huge fan you'll soon be , it's an enjoyable game start to finish as you meet new enemys and master new skills, styles, elements, chips, stratagies and much much more. It's a great RPG with a great soundtrack with in-battle modes that are intense!

Another added feature is the multiplayer - the two versions 'red sun' and 'blue moon' you can go hesd to head r swap chips. This game has limitless potential and the story doesn't quite end when it does!
