SUMMARY:
Pokemon Ruby is a great overall game, but is probably worse then the previous generation, besides its graphics. Like the previous games Ruby has its own region, which is Hoenn, and there are 8 Gyms, The Evil Team(Magma), the Elite Four, The Champion and your rival to beat.
Some new improvements from the old games include contests, which are not easy and take some practice. These contests make the game last a bit longer, and there are rewards for beating them. Berries are used to make Pokemon compete better in these contests and blending berries with your friends to make poke-blocks and then versing them in contests is a fun addition to the game.
The Storyline is good fun, but isn't much different from previous generations of games. It involves you stopping Team Magma's plans at all costs, to save the Hoenn region.
2 on 2 battles are a great addition to the game and allow new strategies to be tested, seeing which two Pokemon work best together and how some moves can benefit each other. Battling with your friends 2 on 2 is also very fun.
After beating the game, you earn access to the battle tower, which is probably the most challenging part of the game, getting to 100 wins in a row can take a long time, but it will be fun the whole time. You can win some prizes from the battle tower which can be won nowhere else.
There are a few downsides to this game, like the glitch involving the internal battery running dry, causing all time based events like growing berries to fail. Also if you don't do some good training of your Pokemon up to the Elite Four you will find it very challenging.
There is no longer a day night system, it is always day time, which is a bit unfortunate, having day and night would have made it feel more realistic and make it possible for new features like some Pokemon only being seen at night.
There are some confusing parts of the game, like catching the 3 regis. It involves being able to read brail (it is provided with the game) and can be frustrating at times. Also, at the fifth badge you have to go all the way back to face your father's gym, which is confusing because you have to almost go back to the start of the game from the other side of the map.
Pokemon Ruby is a great game for Pokemon fans of all ages, it provides hours of entertainment and fun and I recommend that you don't miss the chance to play it and see the changes from previous games.
