The Best of the Beast! | 5.0 0 comments |
by ForteDS from , , | Aug 5, 2006 |
THE GOOD: - The graphics. - The music. - The ability to trade folders. - Beast-Out - Crosses - Basically everything. Need I say more?THE BAD: - Some of the scenarios/minigames get annoying. - This is the last game of the EXE series. SUMMARY: This is one of those games that beats those popular ones like Mario and Final Fantasy and stuff like that. In my opinion, Capcom, you've really outdone yourself this time.
Story: 10/10
Let's just say this story is insane. And by insane, I mean great. First, Lan has to move because his Dad gets transferred. Then, you go through scenarios that range from getting attacked by a fire Navi at school, to a penguin getting attached to a kid, to putting Fish Programs into tanks, to sealing a Cyber Beast in MegaMan's body, to Dad getting arrested, and so much more! This story really takes the cake for having a solid, and very climactic story. There's also a cool twist at the end about a returning friend. Or in this case, enemy.
Gameplay: 10/10
Again, solid gameplay is this game's specialty. In this game, unlike any other MMBN, you get to name your folders, trade folders with other people, and even use the Wireless Adapter. The Battle System is excellent, and works like a combat, one player card game. You start out with a 30-Chip folder of little attacking cards called BattleChips. Very early in the game you learn about the Battle System, which uses a 6x3 grid of squares, or panels. You get to move around on a 3x3 grid of them, which are marked the red color, while the enem(ies)y get the other half of a 3x3 grid, which is marked blue. You use the Directional Pad to move on these, while dodging other enemy attacks. Your goal is to kill all enemies with BattleChips. Each BattleChip has an Attack rating, a Type, a Chip Code, an its own name. There are 250 chips total in this game, with 200 Standard chips, 45 Mega chips, and 5 Giga chips. This will affect the replay value strongly. You can even combine Battle Chips into stronger attacks, by selecting 3 or more chips in a special order. Also, about four scenarios into the game, you get a special battling ability known as Beast-Out. This increases your mobility and strength in Falzar, while it increases attack combos and strength in Gregar. The reason the Falzar Version has mobility is because you get OmniShoes with this Beast-Out, so that you can move on your field freely. The reason the Gregar Version has attack combo advantage is because you get SuperArmor with this Beast-Out, so that you don't get knocked out of your attacks if you are hit.
Also in this game, you get five other exclusive forms in each game. These are called Crosses. They give you an Element, a Power Attack, and any other unique abilities. For example, in the Falzar version, you get Aqua Cross first. This cross is the Aqua Type, you get an Aqua Shot attack, you don't slip on ice, you heal HP when using Aqua Chips, and you can charge Aqua Chips to do x2 Damage, whereas in the Gregar version, you get Heat Cross first. This cross is the Heat Type, you get a Fire Arm attack, your Attack Rating goes up by 1, and your Fire Chips do plus 50 Damage. Gregar crosses are better on the attack side, while Falzar crosses are better on the ability side. Crosses can be used by pressing Up on the D-Pad, and then by selecting them by pressing A. To get a Cross, you have to pass a test given by the operator of the Navi you crossed with. The tests are basically minigames such as cutting veggies, chopping down totems, and much more. The tests all are based on the Navi's capabilities, such as SlashMan and his ability to cut up stuff, such as Cyber Vegetables, and HeatMan and his ability to heat up stuff like kettles.
Lastly, Liberation Missions are gone, and this time, in some scenarios, the minigames get pretty strategic. All in all, the Gameplay is very interesting in this game.
Graphics: 10/10
These graphics are certainly interesting, such as the Cross and Beast-Out forms. MegaMan got a new battle sprite as well. All of the mugshots have really upgraded, which is a huge plus. The school and the various towns in Cyber City are detailed thoroughly, and some are even too big to get around, such as the pavilions at the Expo. Also, they added that Lan makes MegaMan's emblem when jacking in. They even added a pinching animation.
Sound: 8/10
The sound is pretty good. The sounds range from piranhas jumping out of the water, to sparks flying, to jacking in, to the Cyber Beasts roaring and screeching. But they could have added some sound to Lan getting prodded by Mega. Controls: 8/10
The controls are easy to get used to, but can getting annoying in SlashMan's minigame, which forces you to press the buttons in the correct order shown. They are basically self explanatory.
Music: 9/10
Wow. This music rules. It has been made much better than BN5's in my opinion. The music really fits the feel of the situation. Speaking of, when you battle a friend, the music gets more intense when your HP gets low. The background music changes on the Net at certain points, such as the fourth scenario. The only problem is the crisis music bugs the heck out of me at the end of the game.
Replay Value: 9/10
The replay value has been hurt in the English Version, since three areas have taken out, and so has a boss. However, requests are back, there are plenty of chips to collect, and there are plenty of areas to explore with the secret boss Bass, who has been in every BN game. Also, the English game allows you to fight a version of ProtoMan without cheating.
Overall: 10/10
9 + 9 + 8 + 8 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 64/50 = 128%/10 = 12/10 = 10/10
This game is pretty interesting and is recommended to be bought if you love the Battle Network series. You won't have any regrets to buying it rather than renting. This game is challenging as well. |

THE GOOD: This new MBN game seems different from the others ones. In other words, they're good qualities which almost bring bad qualities as well.
•The new folder system •Cross form •Beast out form •Beast-over form •Beast-cross form •New battle chips •New enemies •New allies •New appreciated amount of extrasTHE BAD: •Less bosses to challenge •Bosses are feeble than before •The plot is meager than before •Regal won't be coming back for revenge •Many allies will betray Lan SUMMARY: The new folder system- The new folder system is great. I love the tag chip system it can be useful at times. Though I'm sure most members like the old system with the "preset" select.
Cross system- This form is really useful! Most of the time I use it for the point that it can't be limited on how long you can use it or turns. Unlike soul union, this form allows you to use it longer and it can't be limited. You can lose a cross type form in a battle depending if the enemies uses the negative attack against you (element), but you can still be able to use that type of cross form after the battle.
Beast out form- Well this form is quite the muscle form. It's as useful as the cross form, but it has its limits. Once you use beast out form you can only use it for 3 turns. Though you can only use it carefully, this form is extremely powerful and quick. The form can use step sword, a extremely slash, and many other great damage attacks too.
Beast over- Many members have there on point of view to this form. For my opinion, I think this form should be use as a trump card. The reason for this is because it reduce your HP to 1, but it allows you to become invisible until the next turn comes up. Great if you're going against friends and your in the verge of death.
Beast Cross- Heh, this form is useful, probably the finest if you're going against a elemental enemy. Mostly, all the type of beast-cross type will be strong enough to cause mayor damage to your opponent.
New battle chips- The new battle chips are great! The standard chips have improve and change a bit. Most of them that were in the last game are better. The mega chips have improve as well and as for the new ones, they're some things that can cause damage if you use it correctly. Also, the giga chips are joyful as the last ones. So be sure to use them well.
New enemies- Lets just say that they can't get better. The new enemies are actually amusing. Some have special purposes of attacks that cause annoying damage. Heh, they get annoying, but that's what makes you get more interested in them.
New allies- New allies, new mini games. The allies such as Slashman, bring mini games that are amusing and interesting. They also have new attacks that are hard to dodge and amusing to see.
Extras- The extras are never better. They include BBS board and other pleasant extras.
------------------- Main point, the game is great and worthy to play for or buy for.

THE GOOD: New cross system Beast out system Beast cross system new mug shots New decent Music New mini games Tons of extras, and more icons
THE BAD: Some bosses were too easy One of the mini games got REALLY annoying Beast Over is too slow. WILY IS BACK....AGAIN!!!
SUMMARY: Ok, lets see here....what should i talk about first.
New Cross System
If you think souls were awesome, then check out the new cross system. Similar to souls but better than them. The new cross system is easier to use and you don't have to sacrifice chip to use it. When you use a cross, all you have to do is press up and choose the cross you want to use and press A and presto, you turn in to the cross you chose. The best thing about the cross system is that the cross has infinite turns, but every cross has a weakness, if that cross gets hit by it's weakness, then you automatically get out of the cross you chose. You can still you other crosses besides the one you just used until the end of the battle. Also, every cross has a special ability, that if you charge up there elemental chip with A, then you unleash a special attack. My Favorite one is the Slash Cross with the sword, because the special move is a sonic boom attack if you charge up any sword chip, besides navi sword chips *cough, Protoman, cough cough*
Beast out
The new beast out system is superb. Each version has different beast out modes, but since i only have the greiga version, i can only explain about the greiga beast out. Megaman unleashes his beastly powers of Greiga but only 50% of it. In the greiga beast out, you have three turns to use it and if you run out of turns, you have to recharge your turns by virus battling without doing a beast out. The greiga beast has cool features. The features are super armor, and maching gun buster which goes super fast. By holding B you can shot your buster super fast just like Heat guts buster in mmbn 3, but you don't have to reapeatly press B, just hold to activate the machine gun. You can also charge up non-elemental chips to activate a double slash, each slash does 100 damage. I forgot to mention that when in beast out mode, you target the closest virus and use elemental chips to get to them and use it. After the three turns are used up your expression in the expressions screen changes to worried mode, but you can still use crosses. You can also go into beast over mode which is similar to darkinvis in mmbn 5. Beast over is when Megaman uses 100% of his beast power of greiga. He only uses the chips you uploaded, and it only last for one turn. When that one turn ends you go into weak mode. In the expressions box, megaman looks weak and the box is red. In weak mode megaman's HP gradually drops and his buster stats (charge, power, speed) all goes back to 1, so only use beast over in tight spots.
Beast Cross
When you use a cross, you can wait one turn to activate a beast out with the cross for a beast cross. You can beast out with any cross for a beast cross and each beast cross has a special elemental attack. Beast cross has the same greiga machine gun, but each beast cross has a special elemental attack. To use that attack you charge up a non-elemental chip with A to use it.
Storyline
Wily...is back again...for the 3rd time, which kind of got me ticked off, but oh well. Finally I don't really want to spoil anything since the game didn't come out in the U.S. yet. But everyone knows that Lan moved to a different place(FINALLY).
Misc. Stuff
New mugshots-finally they make new mugshots, better than mmbn 4 and 5, i think.
New Places-Whole new home and new friends made in mmbn 6.
Mini Games-There are a lot of mini games in this game to play. Most of the mini games, you have to play are with different navis, usually to get their cross.
Music- New music, i just had to point that out.
Overall Score
Gameplay 9.7/10 Graphics 9/10 (still the same) Replay Value 10/10 Misc. stuff 10/10
