Although the Game Boy Advance is already out (I've had mine for a while), Nintendo and several third parties are still pumping out games for Nintendo's relatively short-lived handheld. This game, a re release of the classic NES RPG, is well worth buying, even if you already have a Game Boy Advance. And while I may have been a little generous with my review of Final Fantasy Legends III, I know that this game richly deserves its score. Players take on the role of a 16-year old boy who seeks to avenge the death of his father, who fell at the hands of the Demon Lord Baramos. You are asked several questions at the game's outset in an attempt to determine your personality, and for me, it was relatively accurate. You can also choose three additional party members from 8 classes. You can also choose whether your characters are male or female, and can decide the personalities of your additional characters by giving them certain seeds, all of which adds up to a deep, satisfying game.
Graphics: 9/10
The backgrounds and towns in the game are beautiful for a GBC game, and the monsters look pretty cool. Character and monster designs in the game are done by Dragon Ball Z creator Akira Toriyama. And while the characters don't look exceptional on the field, it's relatively to tell the differences between classes of characters. While you can't see your characters in battles, the monster animations are surprisingly smooth for a GBC game.
Sound: 9/10
The music in the game is pretty nice, and the game also has some interesting sound effects. Nothing truly exceptional, but the games sound effects are cool nonetheless.
Control: 9/10
Control is pretty solid, as it's easy to navigate most of the menus, but there are some times when it's hard to figure out how to enter in certain commands. The button configuration is simple, and players shouldn't have too much trouble getting the controls down.
Gameplay: 10/10
This is where this game REALLY shines. With tons of monsters, items, spells, and classes to choose from, plus the fact that the game is 40+ hours in length, adds to lots of fun for more than just one car trip. The game also has monster medals to collect, which you can trade with your friends via a link cable. Ther's not much left to say that I didn't say in the header, but there is a lot to say about how fun this game is.
All in all, if you're a fan of retro RPGs, are looking for a quality handheld title, or just like Akira Toriyama's work, Dragon Warrior III is a great buy, and a quality title at the end of the Game Boy Color's life span, so go get yourself a copy from your local game store.
Overall Score: 10/10 Average Price: $29.99 ESRB Rating: Teen

THE GOOD: There are many hours of game play, many opponents, and many dungeons.THE BAD: Sometimes it is boring trying to get from town to town, and there is not much action in the battles. SUMMARY: This is not a bad game. There are many enemies, items, and bosses. The dungeons are long and the bosses are challenging. There are many towns to go to, and people to talk to. There are three worlds and a side quest area where you have to get monster medals from enemies to get farther into the cave. The only bad things are it is sometimes boring traveling from town to town, the battles don't have much action in them, and trying to get the monster medals is boring, but you don't have to get all the monster medals to complete the game. Anyone who enjoys RPG's should consider getting this game. |

| Dragon Warrior 3 is not that bad of a game, because it has the same concept of many good games such as Pokemon, Monster Rancher, and Golden Sun. It is very good in the beginning when you pick you characters and get new equipment. But as the game progresses, the monsters get harder and harder. It makes you train more and more. This gets really annoying. Most of the time, you end up dying and then paying a lot of money to revive yourself. That's why I didn't even finish the game. It was too hard in the very beginning. It was even hard to train your people because there are monsters in one place that are too weak for you and in another place, they make all of your people die. I didn't find that there was enough things to do in the game. There weren't any sidequests or much of anything to aquire. If you really want to try this game, I recommend borrowing it from someone. If nobody has it, just don't bother! |

THE GOOD: Everything is good. This is an exceptional RPG. Things that are exceptionally good are the story, control, the music on the NES version, and how the game was displayed.THE BAD: Nothing is wrong with this game. If there is it's not very noticable. Things exceptionally bad is the music on the GBC version. SUMMARY: This game is one of the only RPGs other than Golden Sun 1 and 2, and the Final Fantasy series to achieve total perfection. It's very long and very puzzling, but the story pulls you in like a cat chasing a mouse. This game is so good everyone should play it. DW3 does have one minor flaw like the annoying music on the GBC , but not on the NES version, but who said you had to listen to the music. The greatest part of DW3 is how the events are all linked together somehow. This game deserves 8 fingers, and 2 thumbs sky high. |

THE GOOD: Characters, gameplay, story, character creation, good graphics for a GB game, day-night transition, and much more!THE BAD: Annoying monsters, hard bosses SUMMARY: You can tell by the title: DW3 is defeniatly the successor of the first DW games. In fact, it's a lot better! Well, the cahracter creation is a really great thing in this game. Instead of having set companons or none at all, you can choose which ones and their stats, each class with its own special features. Even know your characters don't talk much, you can still interact with them at certain scenes or when using special items. You really get to know those little pixely sprites... I also enjoyed the day-to-night feature. Even though this doesn't happen while in Alefgard, you still enjoy it everywhere else. Special events may happen only at a certain part of the day, which makes the world twice as fun to explore. Well, a game can't really be perfect. The only really bad thing is the monsters and bosses, which can really get on your last nerve. But I had hours of fun playing Dragon Warrior 3!!!!! |

THE GOOD: Dragon Warrior3 offers a lot of a challenge, which some people want. I am still at the beggining, cause this game is TOUGH, but what I've played, it's fun. Making your own character is cool. Music is better.THE BAD: Well, the bad. The story is kind of loose, gets confusing, but that's about it. SUMMARY: I find this to be one of the best games out there on GBC. Colorful graphics and charcters. A major challenge, what more could you ask of a Dragon Warrior? |
