Much better than Red/Blue, but they BUTCHERED Kanto. | 4.5 0 comments |
by dragonclawz from Belleville, ON, Canada | Jun 21, 2006 |
THE GOOD: - Become a Pokemon trainer and travel the world collecting the little creatures, beating Gym leaders and trainers and earning badges, and fight the Elite Four in the end, as well as the powerful Ash, to become the Pokemon Master. Join in the adventure today! - Collect/catch 251 different Pokemon creatures in Pokeballs and complete your Pokedex. - Raise your Pokemon by using them in battles with trainers and watch them grow in strength, gain new attacks and powers, and evolve most of them to their more powerful forms. You can also heal your Pokemon. - Collect money and buy items and even Pokemon occasionally to help you on your adventure. Items are found throughout the game and purchased at stores. - Days and time added to the game, as well as night and day. - Pokemon genders added. - The item pack was better organized in this game. There is now more than one bag, so everything is not all mixed up in one bag. - Collect TM and HM attacks found across the map and teach them to your Pokemon. Some attacks can be purchased at stores. Hundreds of attacks in the game. - Trade Pokemon and battle with friends who have the games. Some Pokemon even evolve when traded, so keep an eye out for that. - Two large maps: Johto and Kanto. - Visit many towns, cities, forests, caves, boats, and even enter stores, buildings, and most houses. Cities have many things to do and buy in them, and all buildings/houses/stores are fully furnished. You can also talk to everyone in the game. - Ride a bike, cut down grass/trees, walk the whole map, swim on Pokemon in water bodies, and even use Pokemon who know how to fly to fly to cities you have been to. - Many challenges, tons of battles, and tons of fun. The game will take you at least 30 hours to beat, and much longer if you want to do and collect everything. Great replay value. Lots to do. - Play some mini games occasionally, such as gambling at two casinos. - The music is simple and catchy. - The graphics have been improved immensely since Red/Blue. From the main world, to buildings, to even color added to the game. Pokemon look so much better in battle, and their attacks even look much better. Much better graphics in this set of games (Silver/Gold).THE BAD: - Again, you cannot catch every Pokemon in the game, just like in Red/Blue. There are also some version exclusive Pokemon again, which is still annoying, and also some given/chosen Pokemon choices that make it so you cannot collect them all. This forces players to trade with people who have the other version, or cheat in some ways. - Some puzzles, caves, and gyms are like mazes. The game can be somewhat confusing at times, and very easy to get lost and frustrated. - At certain parts of the game, there are too many trainers in an area, which makes battling irritating at times. - Some caves/areas spawn too many Pokemon, and you can’t even walk 3 steps before one attacks. - They added Kanto to the game when you beat the Pokemon league, but they dumbed it down for no reason. The forest north of Viridian isn’t even a forest anymore; the Power Plant is just a normal building now; Mount Moon is like pointless now; Cinnibar Island was ruined; there is no Safari Zone; and so much more. They gave us another region, but they ruined it and for no good reason. If they were going to give us Kanto again, they should have maybe thought to add things to it, not take away the great parts of it and ruin it. SUMMARY: It’s the next set of Pokemon games for the Game Boy. It is easy to understand why the world fell in love with Red/Blue and Pokemon itself when it first came out, but Silver and Gold are so much better than Red and Blue. The game is mindlessly fun and never really gets boring (until you get an updated, later released version). This is the second time I have played the game (the first time was 5 years ago when the game first came out).
The idea is as simple as it was in 1996 with the release of the first set of games: make a character, choose your first Pokemon, and start a long journey across the world to become the best there is. You go through the game battling trainers and their Pokemon in single Pokemon battles, catching every Pokemon and helping them grow and evolve, challenging Gym leaders and collecting badges, completing various challenges, walking the world and visiting every city and town, until you eventually make your way to the Elite Four so you can kick their butts and become the Pokemon Master. After you do this in Silver and Gold, you unlock the Kanto region and all of its glories (and lack of them), as well as the ability to enter the Silver Cave in Johto and battle Ash, the most powerful trainer in the world. The game will keep you busy and entertained for many hours, but try not to get too addicted (make sure to take the occasional break from playing sometimes).
Catching Pokemon is easy at the beginning of the game, and gradually gets harder as the game progresses, just as it was in Red/Blue. Different Pokeballs, certain status affects (like sleep freezing, and paralysis), and your strong Pokemon help you catch Pokemon as the game goes on. Some Pokemon are really hard to catch, like the legendary birds and beasts, and often require you to put them to sleep or freeze them and weaken them to a few HP’s before you attempt to toss a ball at them. Collecting every Pokemon is definitely not an easy task, especially since there is almost two times the amount as in Red/Blue.
The graphics are so much better than they were in 1996. Color was added to the game, which is awesome and adds a lot to it. The world graphics are much better, as well as the graphics of every Pokemon and their attacks. The graphics alone make this game so much better than the previous versions.
The only real bad parts of this game are that you cannot catch every Pokemon, but the main disappointment is that they ruined Kanto.
Since the game has been out for about 5 years, it is hard to find, so you will need to hunt through pawn shops, but at least it will be cheap (I found a copy recently for only about $20 Canadian). So you better hope you own a copy, or feel like shopping around and waiting for awhile until a pawn shop has a copy. If you own a copy, rip it out and start playing. If you do not own a copy, go out and find one and join the Pokemon phenomena! This game is a must have for your Game Boy. |

As good as Gold | 4.9 0 comments |
by NyffTotal90 from , , England | May 30, 2006 |
THE GOOD: 250 Different kinds of Pokemon to catch Time ~ Now there is a night and day in game You now have the option to use a cell/mobile phone Better Graphics Very cheap nowadays Much longer storyline and is has alot more depth to it
THE BAD: Annoying music(Always kept the sound to minimum)
SUMMARY: Pokemon Gold and Silver will always be legendary games in the Pokemon series after the massive step from Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow. Now with over 250 different kinds of Pokemon, plus with brand new features like being able to have time in game, and the use of a cell phone so you can ring trainers up that you've already encountered with and battle them again. There is soooo much more to do in this game then there was in Blue and Red and the attention and the detail is there. Plus the graphics have been attended to well and look quite nice considering how the graphics for Red and Blue were. I certaintly enjoyed this game when I finished it and I thought it was a really good game.
In Gold and Silver once you've collected all 8 badges and defeated the tough and challenging Elite Four in Johto you can travel over to Kanto and get the 8 badges that were obtainable in Pokemon Red and Blue, which is a fun and longish challenge to do. There is so much more depth and longer gameplay in Gold and Silver then in any other Pokemon game to date so far. It should take you a good 20+ hours to complete the game and is definitely a fun challenge. I recommend this if you have nothing to do and are really short up on cash. Available now for probably a few quid or a few dollars so this is certainly worth a buy. Find it of you can. |

Great Pokemon Game | 4.5 0 comments |
by skittles07 from , WI, | Jan 7, 2006 |
THE GOOD: - Over 250 Pokemon
- Legendarys
- Night and Day
- Sound
- Assortment of items
- Different Pokeballs
- Different Space for certain items
- Sweet Starters
- Phone
- Most Challenging Game YetTHE BAD: - Pretty Much Nothing SUMMARY: This is the best pokemon game that I have ever played. There is great challenge in this game that makes it a lot more fun and rewarding. There is over 250 pokemon that you can capture and raise in this game. They are very tough to get as some of them only appear at certain times or in certain areas. For example you can only get Lapras in one specific cave on a Friday at night. There are new legendaries in this game also. There are two new legendary birds. One is a Physic/Flying bird and the other is a Fire/Flying bird. They are very strong and can't just be caught just because you find them. You have to have certain items that allow you to catch them and then they are still difficult to catch. There are also 3 legendary dogs that are added to this game. They have to be released from a certain area before you can capture them. Even then they are nearly impossible because they scatter anywhere in the new land. They constantly move so you can't just go to where somebody else found it. Once you find one they run away at the first chance they get but if you do damage to them then the damage stays next time you find them. There is a new clock in this game that actually switches from night to day. Only certain pokemon can be found at night and this makes the game better. You get to choose what you listen to using your pokegear so the music is a little better in this game. There is a lot of new item in this game. There is even different pokeballs that can be used to catch different type of pokemon. You get a pack to carry items in this game and you can have 20 regular items in one pocket and the special items go into another. Then the TM's and HM's get there own pocket and so does the pokeballs so you arent limited to 20 items at a time. The starters in this game are really cool and no matter which one you pick you will be satisfied. You get a phone in this game and you can take other trainers phone numbers and then they will call you to have another battle or if "something wierd is going on."
This is the best pokemon game i have ever played and I would recommend it to any pokemon fans and even people who arent pokemon fans. |

Silver rulez! | 5.0 0 comments |
by SepheroT from 2d floor of hot, , damn Hell | Dec 3, 2004 |
Pokemon Silver is, well, a Pokemon game. Its the Blue of Red and Blue, and the Sapphire of Ruby and Sapphire. Being the second of the two, you'd think it wouldn't be to good. But it is, it is.
Gameplay: 10/10 Playing the game is fun and easy! Quite simply, you run around, and catch pokemon, fight other trainers, level up enough to beat the gym leaders, yadda yadda. However, when you get serious and make real compeditive teams made to fight other compeditive players, Pokemon Silver becomes a real no holds match of skill and stamina.
Story: 9/10 Alright, I admit, its rather generic. You want to be the worlds best trainer, and along the way you defeat a few super-evil organizations. Or one, take your pick. But its historical ability (as in being genaric) is what makes it great!
Length: 10/10 This game was ment to make you play if you're serious. Quite truthfully, you can get through the game and beat the Elite 4 in not to long of a time. Or... You can be serious with this, level up, prepare for real strategy battles, go through the game at a pace suitable for sanity and intelligence, and be ready once your out of the main game to go into the real deal, which could be leveling up for fun or leveling up to destroy any/all competition.
Graphics: 10/10 For Game Boy Color games, this game looks beautiful in my opinion. I've played a lot of games, and I can tell this is top notch, if for some reason all you look for is graphics in a game, which would be odd...
But anyways, it looks nice!
Sound: 9/10 The sound was beautifuly crafted in this game, something nice. The one reason it didn't get a 10/10 is that after a while it gets a bit repeditive, but thats why you can shut the volume off! The BGM is great, and the Sound Effects are even better, because everything you do has a nice little sound effect to make it sound nice and, in some cases, life like in a way.
Replay: 10/10 This whole game is replay. If you deside to play this game untill the main game is done, I must say you wasted your money because the real deal is once its done. As I've said before, you can make a strong team suitable for real battling, or whatever you want to do to suit your scences.
Now, lets see the final scores:
Gameplay: 10/10 Story: 9/10 Length: 10/10 Graphics: 10/10 Sound: 9/10 Replay: 10/10
The average is: 9.6666666666.... yawn.
But, lets round it and we'll say...
Final Score: 10/10

Pokémon Strikes Again! | 4.0 0 comments |
by Amber_Flare
| Oct 1, 2004 |
THE GOOD: Breeding, whole new world to explore, new characters to speak to and fight. Graphics improved from red version, more color in the virtual world. Interesting to play.THE BAD: The clock (annoying when you want to catch a specific pokemon), the pokémon center (sometimes when ive already healed my pokemon i press A again and I have to go through the whole speech again zzz ) SUMMARY: This games rulez! Since its a RPG game, you don't get bored of it easily, there's always a new adventrue waiting round the bend or a new trainer or item! There are now 251 kinds of pokémon. You can breed two kinds of pokémon to get a baby one which is useful when you are trying to get a particular type. Some new types of pokémon can be evolved by happiness and there is a whole new world to explore. All of the pokemon games are linked in some way, so this one just works the same as all the others apart from that there is a new world, new chars etc. This game is brilliant, i'd play it all the time (If i ad a gameboy of own instead of my friends but she lends it to me most of the time )
This game can grow to be a bit boring and tiresome as you grow older and if you already have Crystal you would probably think "What a load of trash". Anyway I hope this reveiw has helped you. |

The Only Pokemon Game I'm Not Ashamed To Have | 4.0 0 comments |
by InvaderHera from , , | Aug 15, 2004 |
THE GOOD: This game is long and challenging. It's fun to catch new Pokemon, and there are so many. I named all of them. They're so cute.THE BAD: I don't like the clock thing. It's so annoying. SUMMARY: I used to be a Pokemon fan, but it's not so cool when you get a bit older, so that's even better for someone like me to like this game. I don't like Pokemon anymore, but I can't help but like this. There's all these Pokemon to catch and train; the game lasted like 100 hours or so. I named all my Pokemon, and they're so cute. I love them so, and they love me. I don't like the way Pokemon keep appearing out of no where and sometimes don't let you escape, though. Also, the clock thing is annoying. It's still a good game, though. *hugs a Pokemon stuffed animal* Why do I still have this? |

Similiar, but still good | 5.0 0 comments |

I think this game could be a little bit more orginal. There are 3 forms of this game, the final form the best as usual and customly; crystal. I would not recommend buying this game or gold because they are the exact same thing as crystal. Although crystal is slightly more advanced, it's still basically the same thing.
Now to discuss the game: You try to train pokemon by battling other computerized or real trainers, or wild pokemon (computerized.) You can trade pokemon, meaning you get theirs and they get yours via link cable or it's computerized. The general goal of the game is to get all 8 badges by defeating gym leaders, get to the pokemon league, and defeat the elite four. The pokemon league is a huge building where good trainers are the. The elite four are like the bosses of the game, as most games out there today have bosses at the end of levels; or in this case, at the end of the game.
I hope that this review has helped you with this - just go buy crystal, it's cheaper, better, and the same.

THE GOOD: 251 pokemon, new world, new charactersTHE BAD: Color of ice path SUMMARY: Just explore the nice world here with prof. elm And discover all 251 pokemons! There's a breeding stuff there. You could breed a female & a male pokemon there. You'll have baby pokemons like pichu! Explore worlds and get all 16 badges,
plus,
You could battle the new elite 4 and Red!
There is so much much events there. i think the gym leaders are blasting cool! There are new TM's and HM's The ice path is like a puzzle you must solve it! Battle also the legendary doggies! They are way blasting harder than catching mewtwo. You must trade something to something. Talk to the persons so they'll give ya gifts!
Battle a lv.40 lugia and a lv.70 HO-OH! They are also legendarys. There are many cheats & codes to help solve this stuff There are music & colored game you should try it.
