The starter Pokémon (Pikachu)SUMMARY:
Pokémon Yellow Special Pikachu Edition is a remake of the original games, Pokémon Red and Blue. Pokémon Yellow actually follows the TV show really well and is IMO everything Blue or Red could've been. The only thing I hated about this game was the starter Pokémon which is Pikachu. It's frustrating trying to make him do stuff and it's REALLY frustrating beating the first gym leader, Brock. Pokémon Yellow follows the TV show but at a different angle. Misty and Brock don't follow you and little stuff like that. But like the show, you have to make Pikachu happy and you can't keep him in a Pokéball. You can't evolve him, and you can't get another one so be thankful he is your starter Pokémon. Now on to my full review.
Graphics - 8 / 10
The graphics of this game aren't that great but they beat those of Red & Blue. You shouldn't be too fussed about the graphics because you can see everything clearly. The graphics are very pretty and colorful, you won't be disappointed in this area.
Plot - 9 / 10The plot follows the TV show well but it misses out on a few important points. Brock and Misty don't follow you like they would but like in the show, Ash (or whatever) starts out with Pikachu. In this, Ash is about to get an Eevee from Prof. Oak. Gary pushes you out of the way and snatches it. After this injustice, Oak gives Ash a Pikachu. You're quite lucky to get Pikachu because it already has Thundershock which makes Gary's Eevee easier to beat. After this, your journey begins. Don't worry, you can get Squirtle from this woman in the middle of (literally) Vermillion City; Charmander from this dude and Bulbasaur from this other dude (or woman, I forgot). Basically, your quest is to become the World's Best Pokémon Trainer and to acquire all 151 Pokémon.
Sounds - 6 / 10Some sounds are great while others aren't so. Some of the sounds during battles are nice and jolly. Sounds when walking in tall grass are also neat to hear. Most of the sounds of the game get annoying and you're most likely to turn off the sound.
Gameplay - 10 / 10The best part of the game is the gameplay. You can fight gym leaders, trainers and your own friends (if you have a Gameboy Link Cable). You can capture new Pokémon and add them to your Pokédex and stuff. This game can take forever to beat. It will last you.
Controls - 9 / 10The controls are very easy to get used to. A is to interact and B is to decline or to whatever. Up is to move North; down is to move South; left to move West and right to move East.
Replay Value - 10 / 10You can replay this game any day and any time. There is a different quest every time. You choose the quest. You can catch all 151 Pokémon. You can play and trade your friends. You can beat the Elite Four over and over again. It's your choice.
Basically, this version is the best IMO of the 3 Pokémon games of the Kanto area. This game will last you for hours, days, weeks, months and even years.
