The game that took the world by storm and revolutionized the puzzle genre, Tetris, is back with some new twists!

Just by looking at the two games, you might assume that the games are entirely different while both games have Tetris in their titles. Well, that's true, but Tetris Attack still has the same basic objective of the original Tetris game: Get as many points as possible before the screen fills up and your game ends.

However, Tetris Attack takes this idea a few steps further than Tetris did. You have the classic Tetris-like gameplay mode called Endless mode that has up to ninety-nine different speeds that can provide everyone with challenging fun for hours on end while matching up at least three of the same block to clear them off the screen and score as many combos as possible.

Don't rush out to find this game just yet, though, because there's still more! There are even more gameplay modes available. That's right, there's more than just the Endless mode! These modes are:
  • Puzzle: Do your best to clear all the blocks before your number of moves reach zero! It's generally pretty easy to find out what you have to do in order to clear the level with your allotted number of moves, but the question is can you actually do it? Not every puzzle is as easy as it seems, and sometimes the smaller, seemingly simple puzzles provide the toughest challenge. This is a great way to challenge your critical thinking skills. Now, who said video games did nothing for society?
  • Stage Clear: This mode is similar to Endless, although a bit different. You still have the goal of getting as many blocks cleared as you can, but be quick! Eventually a line will appear from the bottom of the screen and work its way to the top. In order to clear the stage, you have to make sure nothing's above that line. Sure, it sounds easy, but trust me; it's not always as easy as it looks!
  • Story: Yes, there's even a plot to this game. Bowser has taken control of Yoshi's friends and he's out to save them and take Bowser out once and for all. Every opponent has an HP bar that must be depleted in order for them to be defeated. How do you do this? Outsmart them! They'll place blocks on the top of the screen to try and make your life more difficult since you'll be working on two fronts to keep things clear. The more combos and chains you score, the faster their HP bar is depleted. Again, it sounds easy, but it's tougher than it looks if you're not quick!
Now that a basic overview of the game has been established, on to the rating:
  • Replay Value: 5/5. With so many gameplay options available, this is sure to be a game that you won't want to put down for days on end.
  • Gameplay: 5/5. The game is fun, addicting, and challenging all at the same time, much like its predecessor Tetris. Those, along with the easy controls, net the gameplay value a perfect five.
  • Music: 3/5. The music can get pretty annoying after a while on some stages, which can distract you from your goal. Unfortunately, the only solution is to turn down the volume on your Game Boy Color. It's understandable that the music was supposed to be catchy, but it isn't ideal for everyone when playing for extended periods of time.
Overall Rating: 13/15 = 4.3/5
