Luigi's the Hero? | 3.0 0 comments |
by The Rising Nebula from , IN, | Jan 23, 2008 |
THE GOOD: 1. Luig's first platform, and it's actually worth playing! 2. It's something new and unlike all the other Mario games where he is the hero always trying to save Princess Peach from Bowser. 3. The music fits the game well and makes it more lively and creepy. 4. There are different ghost types then just one making the game more exciting and unexpected. 5. Collecting money for a prize mansion at the end adds to more fun you'll have in the game, this will also give you more determination to collect as much money as possible. 6. For this game to be only played on the Gamecube the graphics are fairly good. 7. Nice storyline that appears just enough to get you by throughout the whole game, from beginning to end.THE BAD: 1. The graphics could look more lively so to make you think you are actually there in the game. 2. Bosses and ghosts themselves could be more hard and not so easy to beat as they already are.
SUMMARY: When the Gamecube was first released Luigi's Mansion was the first game I bought to play on that console. Not only did I really enjoy it but it was also a really fun game that was worth playing. I was also interested in playing the game when I saw that this time it was Luigi's turn to play the part of the hero in the game, no longer was it Mario himself. This opened up the game to something new and not so alike the other Super Mario Series games.
At the beginning of Luigi's first platform game, Luigi starts out searching for this mansion he has mysteriously won from a contest that he didn't even enter in. He suddenly walks in on a shockingly scary encounter with a ghost and being saved by Professor E. Gadd he returns to his lab to talk. After Luigi tells the Professor his story to coming to this haunted mansion the Professor tells Luigi that a few days earlier he had seen a man in a red hat walk into the mansion and never come out. Luigi instantly knew that this man was his brother Mario and obviously he had come looking for this mansion after hearing that Luigi had won it and now that Mario was lost within the mansion it was Luigi's turn to save his brother. To me, after seeing these few short cut-scenes, they are the prefect way to starting off the Luigi's Mansion game.
When playing the game Luigi has many life-changing encounters with ghosts of all colors, shapes, and sizes. He uses the Poltergust 3000 to suck up and revert these ghosts from their invisible forms to visible forms that will appear in paintings that he’ll collect to show off in the gallery. Unlike all the Super Mario games that Mario appears in having usually has been faced up against koopas, piranha plants, or many other lively monsters, in Luigi's Mansion it's all about ghosts this time around, now it's even King Boo and his fellows times to shine.
That's right, not only does Luigi appear as the main character in this game but King Boo and his fellow followers appear as well, with an even greater part then just scaring Mario like usual in the other games. When I first caught sight of King Boo in this game I was so surprised and a little shocked that he even had a title role in any of the Super Mario games, but apparently he finally did. When seeing these boos including their King and having to capture them as being another role in the game it made me excited even more to play. Not only was I shocked that these boos were appearing in Luigi's Mansion but then it soon hit me, they’re boos, they haunt and have been haunting for the past few games and now that it's Luigi's Mansion, a game centered around a haunted mansion, this was the perfect game for them to appear in.
When playing Luigi's Mansion, I always loved listening to the whimpering, whining, and the screaming coming from Luigi every time he would get scared by a mere noise or a ghost. I also liked how the music fit the game so well, making it even creepier every step of the way inside the mansion or out. The detail of the rooms and the mansion itself also was quite good for just being a game on the Gamecube. These two features, the music and the graphics, made the game even better and worth playing until the end.
Unlike those really hard role-play or strategic games for the Gamecube, throughout the Luigi's Mansion game, it is often hard to get lost causing you to have to retract your steps just so you can get closer to beating the game. The storyline really pulls Luigi through all the way from the beginning to the end. And in the middle, there is a few spots where Professor E. Gadd even helps you with advice on how to keep progressing on in the game, he tends to help on those spots that your about to get lost on. I really liked that Professor E. Gadd appeared in the game even if he is a completely new character to the Super Mario series; he really did his job to helping Luigi out in saving his brother Mario.
Considering all these new factors and features that appear in the Luigi's Mansion game anyone who is a fan of the Super Mario games would have to want to try this game out as well as playing the others. And because it's Luigi's first platform game it would draw in gamers even more. To me, seeing Luigi in his own game, as the hero and this time having to save Mario, it all just makes me want to play the game even more and to see if the often scared and frail Luigi can really manage to save his heroic brother Mario from the grips of the haunted mansion. |

Luigi the Hero | 4.0 0 comments |
by Chad from , , Chad | Dec 28, 2006 |
THE GOOD: +Luigi's the hero this time! +Graphics are amazing +Gameplay is excellent +Good storyline +Controls are easyTHE BAD: -It won't take long to get sick of SUMMARY: Usually it is Mario doing the saving, but this time it is the other way around. Luigi has won a mansion in a contest that he never even entered! His suspicions tell him something is up so Mario volunteers to go and check out the mansion to see if it is alright. Luigi doesn't hear from Mario in a while and goes to check out his new mansion himself. While on his way he runs into a funny looking man who gives him a special machine, the Polterguest 3000. This backpack vacuum is only good for one thing, catching ghost. The gameplay takes you through loads of levels in this huge mansion. There are plenty of portrait ghosts to keep you entertained for a while and to help you train for the boss ghosts. There is only a few boss ghosts, but trust me, they will be worth your while. While catching regular and portrait ghosts, you also get the challenge of catching good ol' Boos. There is one in ever single room of the mansion just waiting to scare you! Another little sidequest is finding all five of Mario's lost items. You will surely have enough to occupy you for hours. After all is said and done, there is a surprise at the end that nobody expects! While playing, you also get to experience some of the best graphics I have seen in modern games. Everything is very detailed and very clear. You can even get to see the dust coming up behind you while running. When sucking up ghosts you can see them slowly get smaller as you suck them in. The graphics are definitely one of the best things about this game. The main bad thing about this game, is how short it is. You can beat in one or two days by only playing it for about three hours for both of those days. After you beat it, you will rapidly lose interest in this game unless you are a hardcore Luigi fan.
Scores
Control: 4. The controls where simple enough to learn. It is fairly easy to execute them perfectly too.
Story: 4. I have never even heard of a story before of someone winning a mansion that is haunted, a strange little man lives outside of it, and he gives you a special vacuum. The whole going inside a big, empty mansion story with ghosts inside is getting kind of old though.
Graphics: 5. The graphics are simply the best for the gamecube. I have not played nor heard of a game with better graphics for the gamecube.
Sound: 4. Everything is easily heard. I bet a blind man could do well in the game from the sound!
Lifespan: 2. Luigi's life meter is fairly high, and not much takes off a lot. You can get hit multiple times and still have more than half of your life meter full. Though sometimes, good, it made the game a bit too easy.
Lasting Value: 2. After one, maybe two times beating it, you will want to put this game away for a few years, only playing it when you are extremely bored.
Despite everything, I give it a 4/5. The only thing bringing it down is the lasting value. But still, an excellent game! |

Mama-Mia! Luigi finally gets-a his own game-a! | 4.6 0 comments |
by Galacticdramon from , , | Jun 20, 2005 |
THE GOOD: Incredible Graphics Unique Gameplay Everything Other Than The Game's Length!THE BAD: Slightly Too Short SUMMARY: Finally, after years of waiting, the green Plumber finally gets his own game! And what a game it is!
Luigi has won a mansion in a contest which he didn't even enter. He invites his brother, Mario (who is away at the time) to visit him at the mansion. Upon arriving, Luigi finds the place haunted! He speaks to a Toad, who accompanied Princess Peach to the mansion - but Peach ran away scared! Luigi heads up the stair and encounters a group of Ghosts, before a little Professor named Elvin Gadd appears with a vacuum cleaner named the "Poltergust 3000". This device is capable of sucking in Ghosts and blowing out fire, water and ice with the right upgrades!
The Player controls Luigi and his Poltergust 3000 using the Control Stick, and the Flash-Light using the C-Stick. The Flash-Light is necessary for surprising Ghosts, thus enabling the Player to suck them into the Poltergust 3000.
The game is a near-perfect launch title for the Nintendo Game Cube, and features a brilliant control system. The graphics (although they aren't as important as the gameplay, obviously) are incredible, and the surprises in the game are so unpredictable that you never know what's coming next!
Add to this a whole big family of "Portrait Ghosts" which E. Gadd can transform into paintings using his crazy machines, a few Bosses and a fantastic Storyline, and Luigi's first game is an amazing one! |

Scary, or is it? | 2.8 0 comments |
by Kiker from , , Australia | Apr 18, 2005 |
THE GOOD: Graphix since it looks pretty real and spooky. Y'know. The ghosts, the Boos and Luigi and the dust.
Sound since I don't hear much. Just don't press A in front of nothing cause Luigi yells "Mario".THE BAD: Gameplay is very very repetitive because all you do is suck up some ghosts with a vaccuum and then it dies and when it's a boo, well, I ain't spoiling anything else.
It says it has Comic Horror, but it's not THAT scary. I mean that when I compare it to Resident Evil.
Won't be played that much unless you're a die hard fan. SUMMARY: People has dissed this game for a reason. Because it's not that scary or good. Buying this makes you weird unless you really hate it. Man, I wouldn't waste $40 on this unless you favour not much sound or favour graphics. All you do is shine a light at a ghost, suck it with a vacuum then you pull the control stick the opposite direction of the ghost. That's it. How boring and repetitive does that get? |

A Review, of a decent game | 3.8 0 comments |
by tomato13187 from , , | Apr 16, 2005 |
THE GOOD: *Graphics~ I'd say this wqas a huge step forward for the graphics, and it really showed off GameCube's full potential. The dust, the ghosts, it's very realistic looking.
*Plot~ The plot started out a bit shaky, but it got better as it went along
*Sound~ I like the sound, saince there isn't much of it, and it can seem a bit...spooky THE BAD: *Controls~ The controls were utterly annoying since you had to use the C-stick to aim up and downinstead of the control stick, which was to move. It was hard to use one button and 2 analog sticks. SUMMARY: Overall, I'd buy this game if you like Luigi > Mario, if oyu like ghosts, if you like horror movies that aren't thsat scary unless you're young, buy it. There are plenty of cool features too. After you beat the game, you get to do the game again, in a harder mode. Collecting all the boos, all the money. This game is very cool. So buy it soon. It's not that expensive anymore either soooo, buy it, for the sake of supporting Nintendo, and a good game. I thank you. |

A very underrated game | 4.6 0 comments |
by Morton Koopa Jr from , , | Mar 28, 2005 |
THE GOOD: It's Luigi's own game. Whoo. Good storyline Sucking up ghosts with a vaccuum is fun. Creative bosses The way the bosses look once they're turned into portraits Most of the rooms in the mansion are very creative Plenty of coins, gold bars, and stuff of that sort, to find. THE BAD: Low replayability Only a few hours long Some may consider this game "kiddy", as good as it is. SUMMARY: This game is very good. Sucking up the ghosts with the Poltegust 3000 is fun, and most of the areas in the mansion are creative. Although, this game is mostly just sucking up ghosts, it's still quite good. The only complaint I have is that it's too short and that it has low replayability. Why this game is so underrated, is beyond me. Well, I guess you can't expect to please everyone... |

Luigi's own game | 3.8 0 comments |
by Kokoro from , MI, | Mar 19, 2005 |
THE GOOD: You get to use Luigi as the main character!
Decent graphics
Sucking up ghosts
Mario is finally not the main character.THE BAD: Sometimes you can get lost and not know what to do.
Luigi can't jump SUMMARY: Difficulty: Medium
This is one of the first games for the game GameCube and it's good to start of a game where you can use Luigi as the main character. In this game you are inside a haunted mansion looking for Mario. You get suck up different kinds of ghosts. Some ghost don't even chase after you though but you need to suck them up anyway. Decent game
If you like Luigi or you are fan of spooky games you might like Luigi's Mantion. Give it a rent and try it out. If you really like this game then go ahead and buy it if you want to.
I rate this game a 3.8/5 |

Luigi...house keeping and plumer | 4.5 0 comments |

THE GOOD: unique weapon, different kinds of ghosts, and great story lineTHE BAD: easy game, controls are difficult at first, and where's Mario? SUMMARY: The Boo's are back and are ready for revenge. When Luigi won a mansion in the middle of nowhere he goes to find Mario who had already gone there. Luigi is kinda stupid for thinking that he won a mansion in the middle of nowhere. Anyways, Luigi, with the help of the Professor and his vaccum, goes looking for Mario. You have to go room to room sucking up ghosts and getting keys. This game is pretty easy until the ending battle.
One thing I loved about this game was that Mario (for once) was not the main character. This game has graphics that are good considering that this was one of the first games for Gamecube. It also has replay value which means you can play it again and again. |

Luigi comes to his first lone title in 10 years in shining fashion, on the Cube! | 4.2 0 comments |
by NSX from , WA, United States | Sep 9, 2004 |
THE GOOD: Fair Storyline, Special Graphics, Different line than Mario Games.THE BAD: Poor Bosses, questionable coin system. SUMMARY: Luigi's Mansion was the second released title on the Cube, following Super Monkey Ball, and I have to admit that this game is actually better than most Mario games. After Luigi was given this mansion which is really just something to trick him with, he has to go on a mission to find his older more popular brother Mario, who was captured by Bowser and King Boo. Even though some of the storyline is a bit odd to come by, and the vacuum suction and coin system can be argued for. There is no doubt that this is a very impressive start for Luigi in 1993 which was Mario is Missing, so whenever Luigi has his own game, he has to find Mario. Anyhoo, this is a great game to buy, but I warn you, you will get bored playing this game after no more than three times through. You will come back for more though. It is hard to come buy, and if you do come upon it, at least rent it, none-the-less buy it if you can. |

Yay! A Game Where Luigi Doesn't Act As Gay! | 4.0 0 comments |
by InvaderHera from , , | Aug 26, 2004 |
THE GOOD: It's pretty fun (the first time). It's fun to collect money. The graphics are pretty good. Boo's cute.THE BAD: It's too short and easy. There's only one song or something in it. Pretty sad. SUMMARY: I like this game a lot, but it's just so short and kind of pathetic. There's one song in it! One! It lasts for about five seconds then repeats over and over and over again! When there's no music, Luigi has to whistle. *glare* Anyway, I think the Boo things are cute. (I don't know what the plural is. Just adding an s makes it sound weird.) The other ghosts are cute, too. I like catching the ghost thingies. They're cool. It's fun to collect money. You can get a cool mansion at the end, or, at least, a picture of it. This game's really easy. You can beat in a very short time, except there are parts that are really annoying. It's fun to get all the secret ghosts and stuff. I guess the graphics are pretty good. The second boss is cool. The first is weird. A lot of people I know think this game is stupid. It kind of is, but it's worth at least renting. |
