Mario Party 5 really forces fun down your throat. Everything is joyous and colorful and wonderful and magical in the dream realm where this board/action game hybrid takes place, and various talking stars tell you how to play the game. You will love it—because it is joyous and colorful and wonderful and magical, and you are ordered to love it! The single-player Story mode has been improved (mainly by consolidating the A.I. turns and speeding things up), but it's not as much fun as two-on-two team games. Actually, four live people is the only way to go—there are so many random elements (twists of fate, stolen items, funky power-ups) that strategy almost doesn't matter. THE BAD: SUMMARY:
At first I was really happy because I got Mario Party 5 on Christmas. I started playing, and at first I thought it was ok, but after two days I began to see that Nintendo is running out of ideas:
·There are no more items and shops; the only items you can get are capsules which you can use on the different dices. ·If you want to use a capsule on yourself you'll have to pay a lot of coins. ·The story mode is too easy and isn't a great challenge... ·The Minigames are no longer so original like in the other Mario Party games. Most of them are boring and way too easy. ·You can no longer play with Donkey Kong, so if he was your favourite character say good bye. These are the main problems of this game, but there are also some good things: ·You can play now with three new characters: Toad, Boo and Baby Bowser. ·There are some extra minigames which ARE original in the Super-Bonus-Mode: Beach Volleyball, Ice Hockey and Card...
Mario and his friends return for another round of Mario Party, this time with more unoriginal mini-games, bland music, terrible story mode and and a lazy, uncreative, atmosphere that breaks no new grounds in the series! Let the party begin!
Gameplay - 6.0 - Exactly the same as Mario Party 4. Each character has a turn, rolls the dice and lands on the appropiate space. After everyone has their turn, a mini-game event appears. You either win coins or not, repeat. The only major change I've seen is the capsules, which adds a stragetic element to the game, replacing items. You have to pay to use the capsules, and you get them haphazardly. Stars still cost 20 coins, and half of this game is based on pure luck, so no matter how skilled you are, some sick twist of fate could have you land in 4th place just like that. The mini-games are dull and many of them are taken directly from the previous games. Controls - 8.5 - The controls are fairly simple and Hudson Soft...
If you ever played any of the original Mario Party games on the N64, then you'll probably know what to expect from Mario Party 5. The games have enjoyed almost yearly updates, but it's one of those series, like Fifa perhaps, where each year's update isn't essential. Knowing that, I'll say to you now that if you own or have played to death Mario Party 4 for the GameCube, you'll find nothing new here.
I'll tell you what, I like Mario Party. It's a game that focuses on the multiplayer, and a game that is nearly unparalleled in this field. You see, the reason it's so great, is that it takes nearly no skill to get going. I just hate it when I whip all my mates at my multiplayer games simply because they're mine and I've already played the single player mode to death. With Mario Party, the tables turn and veterans to the game have little advantage to the newbies.
So what's the game all about then? Well Mario Party is, in essence, a board game. A variety of themed boards show up in...
