SUMMARY:
After playing the older Resident Evil games, I really wasn't expecting this game to be mind-blowingly good. But heck was I wrong. This is quite possibly one of the best games to appear on the Gamecube, and is certainly among my top 10 greatest games of all time.
Resident Evil 4 is certainly different to the previous games in the series, and all the changes are for the best. The controls are the main change, with a better camera angle to allow more control over Leon and ease of aiming your gun. The storyline isn't all about zombies anymore either. You play as Leon to save the kidnapped Ashley and battle Saddler and his army of plaga-invested minions. Unlike the zombies before, these enemies are much more intelligent and will be a damn sight more difficult to defeat. The story itself will keep you grasped and coming back for more, using a great host of characters and events in the game all the way through until the end of the game.
The graphics really do justice and push the Gamecube to the max, and has incredible detail in the characters and areas. The cut scenes will have you on the edge of your seat, having to react to them quickly as well as the amazing graphical detail.
The sounds are also used very well. The very atmospheric music in the background very much suits the scary genre the game is, and the voices used for the characters are spot on. From Leon's cool guy voice and Ashley's annoying whiney voice to Salazar's freaky weird voice, all voices used would be exactly how you would imagine the character to be.
The controls are the most significant change in the game series. The controls are designed perfectly for the Gamecube controller, and you shouldn't find it hard at all to perform the action you want.
Even though the game itself is quite short, it doesn't at all lack replay value. The pure brilliance of the game will have you playing through the game again and again, plus the hard mode will make the game 5x as long as it usually is. Plus extra features such as Mercenaries will occupy you for a long while.
As a whole, the game is a masterpiece. There is very little fault, and you should praise Capcom for producing such a fine game for us all. If you do not have this game already, I suggest that you stop what you are doing right now, go to your nearest game shop and buy this right now. I can assure you that you will NOT regret it.
