THE GOOD: -Many different Characters -Many different battle courses -Many different Trophies! -Graphics -Music -Game Play
THE BAD: I don't think there really is anything that's Bad
SUMMARY: Super Smash Bros Melee is an extremely fun game. It's a game where you can battle against many different characters from a whole series of games. It's mostly a free style game as in it doesn't have any specific way you have to do the game which makes it really fun!
Many Different Characters In Super Smash bros melee there are many different characters to play as. The characters come from many different games such as the legend of zelda, pokemon, and mario. Is super smash bros melee you can use many different moves with different characters because the moves change with the type of character you're using! I enjoy there being lots of characters because it gives a variety of difficulty / strength!
Many Different Battle Courses In Super Smash bros melee there are about 20-30 different battle courses which you can choose from. They also come from many different games. There are also added specials that happen such as things in the course happens. The Stage where you fight can move, shoot at you, or attack you depending on which course you use!
Many Different Trophies Unlike the previous version of this game, super smash bros melee lets you collect trophies. Throphies appear in the trophy section of your game, and they can be viewed at anytime! You can collect these trophies from courses OR by using your tokens at the gumball machine. The Gumball machine doesn't have gumballs though! It has trophies and the less likely it is for you to get a different trophy the higher it costs to use the machine! I enjoy there being this because you can see many trophies and zoom in / out and learn a little bit about each one!
Graphics The graphics are quite good in this game. It's 3D and it's really good with the details to the very last point! It's really detailed with excellent colours and a wide variety of different stages and movement. I'd rate the graphics a 9/10
Music The music matches the stage and you can easily recognize some of this music! The sound affects also sound realistic and match what the player is doing. It's easy to hear and it's pretty good! I'd rate the music a 8/10
Game play This game will keep you busy for hours and it will most doubtfully never bore you. I'd rate the gameplay a 9/10
THE GOOD: - Awesome Graphics. - Awesome Music. - Awesome Gameplay. - A Lot Of Unlockables. - Awesome Multiplayer Mode. - Replay Value.
THE BAD: - Doesn't Have Online Mode. - No Easter Eggs. - No Voice Acting.
SUMMARY: Super Smash Bros. Melee is one of the greatest game of the story, it's awesome to play with a lot of people, and it is one of the few Fighting Games that everyone is going to enjoy; the only game where Hardcore gamers and Casual gamers fight with the same level.
The Good;
The graphics are awesome. Every world and character is very detailed and colorful. The items are also very detailed. In the actual gameplay, it has many good graphic effects, and it those effects are "soft", so you won't hurt your eyes when you play.
The music is a important element of this game. Each stage has it's own music, and depending on where you are playing, the music can be very inspirative. The music is simple, yet very moved. The music is one of the elements that many people enjoyed, and I'm sure that many people are going to enjoy it.
The principal element of this game; The Gameplay. The gameplay is very simple, and that's why it is very good. Most fighting games have a complex Gameplay at the point that you will end up hurting your hands. In Melee, that has changed. You can do a hell of incredible convos by just pressing some buttons in the controller, and that's why Hardcore gamers and Casual gamers will have the same chance of winning. The gameplay is so good, that everything you need to do is to practice a bit to be in the level of an "expert".
Another important element of this game is the fact that you can unlock many. many characters and stages. Unlickely SSB64, which only had 4 unlockabled characters and 1 unlockable stage, you can unlock over 8 characters and over 5 stages in Melee. It takes a bit of effort to unblock everything, but still, it is something that everyone can do with a bit of practice.
And another important element: 4-Players multiplayer mode in which everyone fights against each other, or by creating teams of players. The multiplayer mode definitly worth to check it out.
Finally we have the replay value, because it is a game that you will play for hours and hours in the different modes without getting bored and unlocking some "trophies" for your collection.
The Bad;
No online mode, it could have been needed, but it is already good enough.
No easter eggs at all.
No Voice acting, except when a character screams when he dies or something of the sort.
OVERALL...
You definitely have to get this game, doesn't matter if you are a Hardcore gamer or a Casual gamer. This game will let you hooked for a long time.
Introduction Super Smash Bros. Melee is the sequel to the original SSB on the N64. For those unfamiliar with the series, SSB is actually quite simple. Nintendo throws in their most successful mascots to have a crazy battle in any of a number of stages. Samus firing a Missile at Mario at Hyrule Temple, Sheik doing a Breakdance against Ness in the acid filled pools of Zebes. You name it.
Story There is a story in SSBM that no one informed me of?! As the previous statement implies, there's absolutely no story. It's just simplistic and good natured cartoon fun. This game has different modes to help you earn trophies, however. That shall be discussed in the gameplay section. The closest this game can get to having an actual story is its nostalgic value. By nostalgic value, I mean the trophies this game offers. One of the goals in this game is to gather all of the trophies in the game. What exactly are the trophies for, you may ask. The answer is simple: Absolutely nothing. All they have is a bit of Nintendo's gaming history you can read up on if you're bored. It also brings back to mind some games that have been lost in the currents of memory your memory.
Gameplay This is the section that truly makes Melee shine. Most noticeably would be its appeal to all ages. In fact, this will be a smash hit (so to speak) with the younger kids as they like to just simply press buttons and see what happens. That is the only requisite for the easier modes. For older, more hardcore gamers, mere mashing won't appeal their needs, obviously. That is why this game has button combinations (for longer, more intense battles), shields to protect yourself from damage, unlockable characters and stages(more different styles of combat and stages with unique twists!), all for the sake of replayability value. One of the most unique things Melee has going for it is its lack of a health bar. Instead, all characters have percentages that rise every time you are hit by an opponent or item. For such a little number, it is awfully important, as the higher your percentage is, the higher of a chance your opponent has of blowing you off the screen and ultimately, losing. Most of the items in this game are from old games. For example, if a pokeball decides to spawn, and you use it on a opponent, a random pokemon will pop out and use their attack to do quite a number to anyone who has the misfortune of standing in their way. The single player modes in this game are fun, and the artificial intelligence isn't too shabby either. When you complete one of the modes (you start off with two, Classic and Adventure) in single player mode, you will receive the trophy of the character you were using. But the true beauty of this game isn't in any of the aspects of this game that I expounded upon, it actually lies in the multiplayer battles. This is when the battles really start to get crazy, as artificial intelligence is no substitute for a real opponent. This is the perfect party game and is worth every penny of your money that you had to spend on the extra controllers. The more techniques you learn to employ usefully, the better you become. Therefore, the more you play this game, the better you and your friend/s become, leading to some truly dynamic battles and the enjoyment levels will zoom sky high.
Graphics The graphics are not what I'll call the best of the era, but the development team does try to make the stages and characters seem right out of their respective games. They've succeeded, thankfully. An interesting element of this game is the actions you can do while paused. You can zoom in, change the camera, etc, etc. This allows some beautiful effects and maneuvers to be done in the perfect angle. You could perhaps take a picture of it, hmm? The only gripe I have is the battle animation. When you do an attack, normally, lights will flash. When you pause and zoom in while the effects are visible, you will see the effects in their true form, 2-D graphics that clash with their 3-D surroundings. When you attempt to move around the camera in an attempt to see around the effects, the effects will move as well. This looks really cheap. Even so, the graphics as a whole will not disappoint.
Summary What more is there to say other than that Melee is one of the best games ever and must not be missed? The gameplay is cleverly put together in a way so that everyone can enjoy it. The visuals are, in fact, some of the best I have seen on a GameCube game. The story, no, scratch that-the nostalgia is enough to make you think back to the good old days of Pokemon Red/Blue and EarthBound. This game will serve you faithfully if you are looking for a party game, as its multiplayer battles beat the single player modes anytime.
"What do you like about this game?" Everything. This game is sheer perfection. The new characters, levels, items and updated graphics make this game truly worth the pretty penny it is. The entire thing is set up perfectly, and I see no bugs with the game at all. No lag, no loading time basically, and no match is ever the same. The level details are fairly well done, although it could use a bit of work.
I saved up for 3 years to buy this game with the GameCube also. It was truly worth the money. I get a new taste each match, there is no flaws at all. It never gets repetitive, learning each new faces strategy and such is a great relief, as it allows you to learn more about that person themself. Is this person offensive or defensive? Can they use offense to their defence? Everything is so well played out. Learning special techniques such as L-Cancel, Wave Slide and Wave Dash is half the fun, testing them out on others is truly a challenge. Learning how to properly use these techniques can take hours. This game has no general play time- It's something you can play forever. Sometimes you just need to relieve yourself of all stress going on, this game can truly help with doing so. There is about 25 characters, and plenty of new faces. Item Matches and such against friends tests you to see who is the Tactical Opponent. Sometimes it's interesting to see how much you've improved since your last encounter with friends, foes and enemies. If you can master techniques such as using Link's Boomerang as an offensive and defensive attack, you can truly gain a nice grasp on Melee. Fighting foes such as Samus and such truly puts you to the test, as you need to learn the many different existing strategies.
They added an Event Match, and there consists of 51 different Levels, or if you prefer, " Missions." These truly put you to the test at seeing how much you learned. Many different levels are unlocked only by Event Match, and it can also be an alternate to unlock certain characters. There are multiple missions that make you use a certain character, and therefore it is obvious that you need to have some kind of skill with each character, although many of these Missions where you need to use Marth can be solved with the Forward Smash.
The Classic mode is still here, and I'm not too sure if the Adventure Mode wasn't before, it may be a new addition. It involves you travelling through many places such as Hyrule, Pokemon Stadium and the Mushroom Kingdom.
I give this game a 5.0, and it truly deserves it. There are no flaws at all, it's sheer perfection. I recommend getting out there and buying this before there are no copies left.
THE GOOD: Super Smash Bros Melee, the second installment in the Super Smash Bros Series, is fast paced two dimensional fighter with loads of stages, modes, and characters from quite a few Nintendo games, even some you probably never have even heard of! The game is typically set on a stage with platforms and moving parts, and there are numerous types of items that appear on screen. They can include guns, bombs, and even things like Pokeballs! There are many modes to play in, whether you are by yourself or with a few friends. In single player mode, you can play against computers of varying skill levels, race through obstacle courses, and obtain trophies for your own personal collection. Or you can pit yourself against all types of enemies, including non playable ones, in adventure mode, which combines classic fighting with a side scrolling adventure (hence the name). That's not to mention special events matches, which are sort of mini games, because they all have very special rules and circumstances, from playing on the oddest of stages, to racing the clock, to defeating enemies in certain ways. In the multiplayer mode, the main object is to keep attacking your opponents with each character's unique moveset to give them damage. When they have enough damage, thay can be sent flying off the screen. You can play timed matches, stock matches, or even slow motion matches! There are also lots of different stages, which are often taken from other Nintendo games, like Hyrule Castle from the Legend of Zelda, or Corneria, from Star Fox. There is so much stuff about this game it is hard to say it all, so I will put a summary of the game's features right here:
-A training mode for up to four players, where everything is customizable (items, speed, damage).
-A fun training video.
-Three main types of one player battles, plus event matches and mini games.
-Over 20 different characters from numerous Nintendo games.
-Over 30 stages featuring various Nintendo environments.
-Over 30 items to use in play, with a customizable item list.
-A multi player mode to kill for, up to four players at once.
-Over 10 different vs. modes to play in, including a camera mode that lets you take pictures in game and save them to your GC memory card.
-You can keep a collection of trophies showing various things about Nintendo characters, items, and places.
-Almost never is boring, loads of replay value.
-There is so much to explore and unlock, I haven't even told you about half of what this great game has to offer.
THE BAD: There is really nothing very bad about this wonderful game, except some characters are better than others, and certain stages and items and such can get annoying, but this is absolutely nothing to worry about, the good things about this game outweigh the bad by far.
SUMMARY: This is one of my favorite games and I highly recommend this to anyone, even if you are new to the concept. This is a must buy for all serious gamers worldwide, and even casual gamers who want to have some major fun. Even if you don't have anyone to play with, Super Smash Bros Melee will definitely not disappoint.
THE GOOD: The combat, the items, the many additional characters, the stages, the unlock-able trophies, stages, characters and much much more.
THE BAD: I felt that some of the characters were unbalanced, but other than that small flaw, the game is perfect
SUMMARY: This game was the next step of Super Smash Brothers, and that step was a big one. Super Smash Bros. Melee had so many additions and fun game play, that you could play for hours into the night. It also had the concept of never giving you boredom; you always have things to unlock and opponents to battle. Up to four players could fight and items of many kinds could explode, disorient, and basically beat you to a pulp.
The characters had many personalities. Each one had their own unique taunt that humored that character. Each character had a wide arsenal of attacks, and more importantly, a powerful smash attack. YOu could combo and KO you opponent in countless ways, or you could knock up their damage counter until one punch sent them flying. Special attacks and recovery moves could be used in tough situation, and each character possessed a different one.
Stadium mode had some great attributes also, the event matches. If you ever got bored of just plain Melee mode, you could go and accomplish missions-some just to give you a challenge, and some that unlocked secret characters, stages, etc. Stadium mode boasted two other different modes: Homerun Contest and Multi-Man Melee. Multi Man Melee put you in a spot to fight your way out of crazed "Wire Frames" that had the potential to unleash pain. If you were ever feeling like you needed to punch something, or "smack" something if you will, then the Home Run Contest was for you. You could beat up a sandbag as much as you could in ten seconds and then smack the sandbag thousands of feet with an extremely powerful bat.
The stages boasted creativity at all angles, and there were many of them. Some had simple designs and then there were some that forced you to watch where you stepped-one wrong move and you could plummet into the depths of oblivion. The environment responded rather, violent, and in every level, there were always unique things.
The thing I found most in this game was the many additions and awesome graphics. You could sense a detail in Mario, see the rivets on his pants, and his fireballs were dowsed in fire with intricate detail.
From all these magnificent details and amazing game play, lets just hope we can see another creation as wondrous as this one.
THE GOOD: THE GOOD:
-New characters
-Better techniques
-Better graphics
-New worlds
-Newer colors for the characters
-Better items
-Newer events
-All new "Home Run" contest
THE BAD: THE BAD:
-The only thing you do is fight
-TOO much special events
*This game is almost perfect*
SUMMARY: OVERALL FEATURES:
At last the latest version of the Super Smash Bros. series. All new fighting skills and fields. Well, when it comes to fighting games, this game kncks it out of the park. Well, since thi game is a fighting game, it has up to 4-player versus mode. This game has all-new characters such as the Ice Climbers and Ganondorf. There are new arenas to fight on such as Final Destination and Hyrule Temple. The complexion of the game shows redefined graphics. Now, when it comes to events, these are brand-new for the series. Some of these events feature unlockable characters you get after passing an event. This game also features glitches and secrets to special events and ways to unlock characters.
SPECIFIC DETAILS:
There isn't much storyline in the game, except when you are about to fight an opponent. I mentioned two characters as an example. Well, some more characters are Falco Lombardi, Pichu, Marth and Roy from Fire Emblem, and Mewtwo. Other arenas are Big Blue and Mute City from F-Zero, and Flat Zone from Mr. Game & Watch just to mention a few (they will be explained). Big Blue is a fight in a high-speed race of the F-Zero Grand Prix. You have to move from vehicle to vehicle to keep up the survival, and if you fall off a car and onto the street, you will get dragged away and lose a life. So to stay alive, you have to be careful where you step on. In Mute City, you are in a race, but from a different point of view. You fight on a platform that constantly is on the move, so if you fall, there is a high probability that you will lose a life. But if you fall to the race track, you will be hit very hard and will take a lot of damage if you do not get onto the platfom as quikly as possible. In this arena, you have to be careful that you don't fall. Flat Zone is the old-fashioned world of Mr. Game & Watch. This worl is very simple, but if you go to far to the edges, you'll die. The upper platforms of the world constantly move, and sometimes, tools fall from the sky. Now there are 52 challenging events. This part of the game is about a 35% completion part of the game. The story can be set to difficulties. So if you are a good fighter, there is a "Very Hard" mode for you to sharpen your skills. This game also includes Break the Targets, which is much harder now. In overall, this game is worth buying.
*Final score is: 8/10
THE GOOD: The good is simple. Countless characters are thrown into one game to beat the crap out of eachother. You are able to choose your own characters. The selection ranges from Pikachu, to Mario to even Ness from Earthbound.
The graphics are updated from its previous original, "Super Smash Bros.", giving this sequel a stronger appeal. But the graphics aren't the thing you'll be focused on during the game.
The game is fantastic. The concept is incredulous. You won't want to put this game down after you've picked it up. When it comes to fighting games, this one is spectacular. Ever get so annoyed with Jiggly Puff you wanted to stab it four hundred times then shoot it off a cliff? You can in the game. Ever feel like having a sword fight with Link and Marth? It's in the game. Wanna have a Smash Down with Mario and Bowser again? IT'S IN THE GAME!
It's easy. You are able to choose nine levels of difficulty in the Versus Mode battles. The Adventure Mode may seem a bit tough at times, but you won't be disapointed.
There are also a few mini-games that are fun to play, such as "Race to the Finish", "Destroy the Bullseyes", "Home Run" and "Board the Platforms". But the real mini-game in all of this is collecting the 300 trophies of almost every Nintendo character possible. They give you a lengthy description, the day it came out and what game the trophy's figure is from.
THE BAD: Not enough characters. Even as the game came out almost a year before Star Fox Adventures, I would've loved to see Krystal in this game. Any Star Fox character would be welcome, to me.
Some of the characters will get annoying in battle. If you're not patient or just get uberly annoyed with your least favorite character, then it can be a hassle. The amount of weapons are ridiculous and some are even pointless and stupid.
There are also not enough levels. I enjoyed a lot of them, but I could've enjoyed the others a lot more. Most of the levels are too small to even send someone rocketing toward the other side of the screen.
SUMMARY: I loved this game. Except for the comments I gave above, this game is everything for the Gamecube until Twilight Princess comes out. Do yourself a favor and do the Gamecube one more favor before it dies and buy this game.
THE GOOD: - Cunning graphics - Smooth gameplay - Fast reactions - quite good Computer Controlled characters - Great movesets - Ability to use combo's - Ability to combine items with move combo's
THE BAD: - Didn't come out at the launch - Can ocasionally have a bug
SUMMARY: As seen, there are alot of good points about this game. Other then smooth gameplay and nice looking graphics, the Multiplayer is were the fun's at with your friends. Who doesn't want to battle his/her friends with your favorite Nintendo character.
But, if you don't have friends to play with, or just have only one controller, there's still lot's of things to do. You can keen out strategy's for different playmodes, such as Adventure mode, Classic Mode or the All-star mode.
Classic mode: Run trough a series of battles, finally arriving at the Battle field, facing Master hand Adventure mode: Run trough some well-known levels with game themes such as a Mario level, complete with Goomba's, Koopa's and ? blocks, a Zelda theme where you need to find the real Master Sword, or speed your way down the F-Zero highway to make it to the finish.
If that's not enough, try your best punch on Sandbag, or beat all 51 challenges. Still it won't get boring, because you can also collect 261 trophies and swap data of your best records.
THE GOOD: Simple yet addictive gameplay.
Graphics are nicely shaped.
Amazingly fun multi-player.
Unique winning system.
THE BAD: Most of the music is awful, but it is a Nintendo game.
One player gets really boring and repetitive after a while.
SUMMARY: Where do I begin, nintendo over the years have just been pulling out platformers, over and over again, but this game was different, it is a good 2D (with 3D affects), simple one button bashing fighting game, and yet it still keeps the sense of Mario, like no blood, no outragous fighting and no harmful wepons.
Gameplay: As I said, it is a simple fighting game. It also has a different way of winning, it's no like tekken, just smacking them to get their HP down. Instead they have a Big hit percentage so you can smash them off the screen, for example, if you're opponents percentage was about 4% it would be a lot harder to smash them off the screen, but if it was about 90%, one strong hit would send them flying. The multi-player is excellent, play in different modes from Tiny Melee to Metal Melee.
Graphics: Nicely rounded off and crisp, not much blockiness in the characters or backgrounds, makes it easy to see which equals up to, easier to play.
Other things: There's one big problem with this game, is most of the music, they all sound like an apocalyptic rave, like someone's drilling into you're head it gets so annoying.
In conclusion I think that this game is a good classic for nintendo and the gamecube, two big thumbs up from me.
