SUMMARY:
Difficulty: Semi-Easy.
Get ready for the ultimate battle! When the brutal fighting contest known as Mortal Kombat erupts once again between our world and Outworld, a dark land of evil monsters and darkness, you will have to prepare for the battle of the lifetime as you fight through the tournament to try and prevent the dark beings of Outworld from claiming Earth for their next domain. Choose from a variety of fighters and prepare for the ultimate fighting game challenge as you must face the demonic opposition in brutal deathmatches as you climb the ranks to the tournament, searching for victory and the protection of your Earth itself...
Shang Tsung, an evil wizard, is intent on taking over Earth and turning it into a Shadow Realm but in order to do so he must fight against Earth's best fighters in a tournament to the death.
Gameplay: Tournament style gameplay, meaning 1-on-1 matches. I like that sort of thing because you get to punch, kick and blast the living crap out of the enemy. A problem with this that really pisses me off is that the gameplay can get repetitive. Repitition is alright for games that at least play very well but this has delayed controls and, damn I actually feel sleepy after playing this for a while. Plus I've noticed a whole crapton of glitches which really kills the experience of playing this game. Thankfully they're taken out of the rest of the Genesis MK titles. Overall, not a game you want to play for too long, or much due to gliches.
Length: A basic tournament style Gameplay, so it won't last very long, but it is a little long. It kinda depends with how good you are with the characters. I sorta hate that sort of thing because you usually start with the people you're really good with and you win easy then you use people you suck with and you end up taking ages to beat the game, which then ends up frustrating.
Originality: This isn't too original, it's basically a copy of Street Fighter 2, though I read it's a response TO Street Fighter 2 so we'll let it slide. The idea of having blood being spewed out when getting hit hasn't been done much so points for that.
Graphics: Half-decent for it's time but no good for this time's, that's for sure. I didn't really mind the graphics, but unfortunately when comparing this to other games that were out at this time, they looked bland and nearly 1D. It looks like it's a damn 12-bit game, like it kinda looks 8-bit but it looks 16-bit at the same time. The Genesis was supposed to have superior graphics to the Arcard but the Arcade has WAY better graphics. What the hell Sega? Overall, decent graphics but there's way better out there.
Overall, just buy 64, Deadly Alliance or Deception instead of this. Avoid this first title like the friggin plauge! Tt is a piss-poor port of the arcade game!
