THE GOOD:
An awesome combination of speed, momentum and platforming; controls are quite spot-on and helps move the game along without frustrating the player; visuals please the eye; soundtrack makes the game seem faster and sounds awesome.

THE BAD:
Special stages are somewhat annoying to get around, making the hunt for the Chaos Emeralds that much more frustrating; underwater sections are quite annoying to maneuver through; lags sometimes; despite what I may have said about it, a fair amount of songs in the soundtrack don’t seem to belong in the game.

SUMMARY:
Introduction:
Getting some mild success with the Genesis so far, Sega decided to outdo themselves and create a cool animal mascot to compete with Mario. Yeah, Alex Kidd was okay, but he wasn't quite enough to match Nintendo, so what Sega decided to do was take off the gloves, pull out a reefer or two, take a couple of trips to some zoos, and create a mascot out of...

THE GOOD:
Sega finally got a mascot
Awesome gameplay

THE BAD:
Short compared to todays standards
Controls too basic

SUMMARY:
This is the first game I had ever played before, and I must say, I was pretty impressed. Back then, the graphics never mattered, as long as it had awesome gameplay. Fortunatly, Sonic The Hedgehog is jampacked with awesome gameplay and hours of fun. The controls are pretty basic, a little too basic if you ask me. But still, it does make things easier if the controls aren't a pain to master. The flatside view helped the understanding that the goal of each level is to get to the other side of the stage. While making your way there, I found that the various enemies helped make the game a bit more challenging. Especially how some of the enemies could only be killed in one way. The variety helped me spend more time playing the game to master it. All the stages are basically the same, you go through about two acts,...

THE GOOD:
Introduced Sega's mascot and challenged Nintendo's Mario
Extremely cool main character and moves
One of the most defining games for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis

THE BAD:
By today's standards the game is pretty short

SUMMARY:
This game was probably the turning point in the Sega/Nintendo battle in the console war. Sonic 1 was one of the best games of the time and was the first game I played when I got my Mega Drive when I was 6 years old. Since I was only 6, I don't remember too many details about how this game affected the world at the time, so I'll focus more on what I remember of the actual game, which is a side scrolling one.

You play as a blue hedgehog called Sonic and your objective is to stop Dr Robotnik from turning all the animals on the planet Mobius into robots called Badniks. These badniks you will come across all through the game and you beat by jumping on top of them. When you beat a badnik a little furry...

THE GOOD:
it is really addictive. what's also good is that it's faster than the internet version that all you neoseeker newbies are used to. and cool 80's style music. also, unlike the newer sonic games, sonic actually, yes, mocks you on-screen if you don't touch the controller for 30 seconds. it's funny... i never get tired of seein' that.

THE BAD:
hmmm... well, you may see that sooner or later your sega will crash, losing all data that you have just played. what that you say? just save? no, miho, this is sega genisis we're talking. anyway, these problems are more a SG problem than a sonic problem. anyway, it really lacks storyline. but it really doesn't a need a comprensive one.

SUMMARY:
this was quite possibly the first videogame i've ever played, thinking back. but it definalty gives a good impression! see, sonic no. 1 was made back in the day,(1992 i think) when videogames didn't need incredible graphics to be cool. charactor has...
