THE GOOD: Excellent graphics for its time Hours upon hours of outstanding gameplay Fun characters and levels Good challenge
THE BAD: Very hard to beat the game Obnoxious theme song Can get a little repetitive SUMMARY: Overall, DK64 is a great game. It's a blast and will have you playing for hours on end. With different levels including Aztecs, Caverns, Castles, Forests, and of course, a jungle, and five different playable characters each with their own abilities and golden bananas (similar to stars in Super Mario 64) to collect, you would think Donkey Kong 64 would never get old. And it won't. For a while.
The plot goes something like this - King K. Rool has another scheme. He's taken all of Donkey Kong's precious golden bananas and kidnapped all his friends. You'll have to navigate through a series of levels, rescuing different characters in each of them, unlocking golden bananas as you go, to eventually reach the final stage. Each level has its own boss which are usually the best part of the level. To reach the boss, you'll have to collect a certain number of regular bananas (scattered throughout the level, different from golden bananas). A certain number of golden bananas unlocks a new level. If you ever want to complete the game, you'll have to rescue all of Donkey's companions. Diddy, Tiny, Lanky, and Chunky Kong all await you in the first three levels. Meanwhile, you buy instruments from Candy, potions from Cranky, and Weapons from Funky. All these can be upgraded. The things you buy, especially Cranky's potions, will give you abilities that are essential to collecting all the golden bananas. There are also various barrel mini games that you must complete in order to finally get the banana.
Donkey Kong has graphics and gameplay very similar to Banjo Kazooie/Tooie. So, those who liked those two games will love DK64. Also, fans of the Donkey Kong franchise will not be let down. Donkey Kong 64 is addictive and you'll always love exploring the new environments the game places you in. There's always aspects to the level that are unique and also crucial to getting golden bananas (For example, in the forest level, there is a giant clock that switches the game between day and night. Some bananas can only be reached at certain times of the day.). The degrees of difficulty for getting the bananas range from stupidly easy to impossible. Many, however, are just pure fun. Overall, DK64 is a very enjoyable game and good for all ages.
A certain degree of frustration does come with the game, however. Some golden bananas are impossible to get you do absolutely everything right. You'll do lots of falling and retrying (especially in the factory level) to reach some. Another irk is that you must get two coins in order to advance to the final boss stages. You must beat the original Donkey Kong and Jetpak. The problem is, no matter what, I could not beat the original Donkey Kong, which prevented me from beating the game. I spent so many wasted hours trying to beat that stupid game. Last, this game requires an expansion pack. Nowadays, expansion packs are hard to come by and cost about $20, which is probably five times more than the actual game will cost you.
Other than that, Donkey Kong 64 is great fun. Even if you don't manage to get through the whole game, it is a very worthwhile title and surely a great value, especially now. You won't be disappointed with Donkey Kong 64, unless of course you're currently enrolled in an anger management class. |

THE GOOD: Includes an expansion pack for better graphics. Wide range of characters to choose from.THE BAD: Costs a little more because of the expansion pack. Not very long unless getting all of the golden bananas. SUMMARY: Donkey Kong 64 features the majority of the Kong clan, Donkey, Diddy, Chunky, Dixie and Lanky. They all have there own missions and special ability’s to do so it makes the game a little more challenging to do at times. The game itself isn’t very long unless you want to get all of the golden bananas. The music to the game is really cool, especially the DK rap introduction when you first turn it on. The graphics are better than most N64 games because this game comes with an expansion pack. There is actually a multi-player battle game that you can play which is a lot of un and adds to the game play value.
Overall this is a really fun game and is well worth getting, it maybe a little costly because it comes with an expansion pack. |

Donkey Kong? 2004 Review? Whatever. | 5.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: There's a lot of stuff to do, you have to collect Golden Bananas, Banana Medals, Bananas (yes, plain old bananas, and some are blue!) and tons of other collectables. Five different characters to choose from, five different guns, absolute mayhem is created by the five monkeys in this game, and there's no suprise to thatTHE BAD: Well, one you get the hang of ot, it can get a little boring, but hey, Asteroids (Atari) got boring the 10th time I palyed that, and you don't do much in that game! I got this game in 2002 and I do NOT think much about the negative side of video games that much. SUMMARY: Overall, it's a game of fantasy (look up the top, it says so), adventure (look up there again) and fun (it's not up there). You can't go wrong with it. I don't expect you to buy it now, five years after the release, but it's worth the fifteen bucks you spend for a lifetime of memories. |

One of the most famous and most-recognized game series in all of Nintendo's history is the Donkey Kong series. Well, in the first installment for the N64, he has arrived with a barrel full of fun and excitement for anxious players. Here goes my review:
Gameplay: 9/10 The game controls may be a little difficult at first but, owners of Super Mario 64 should have no trouble with it. The game itself is amusing and it is fun. Some of the mini-games may become very annoying (yes, I know you're all thinking about ''Beaver Bother''...) but, I still enjoyed it. There are lots of moves to learn, including moves that all the Kongs can pull off, as with moves that only an individual Kong can pull off. The game is a bit difficult for the ''untrained'' players but, as you get used to it, the game will become much much more easier.
Story: 8/10 Like most adventure/platform games for the N64, DK64 involves the tedious task of collecting items. This time around, you control one of 5 different Kongs (Donkey, Diddy, Tiny, Lanky, and Chunky) to obtain all 200+ bananas in the game. Your goal in the game is to collect those bananas, which has been taken from the Kongs by their arch nemesis, King K.Rool. Do whatever is has to take, whether it be racing beetles, shooting watermelons into hungry crocodile's mouths, and/or playing a long-forgotten ''mini'' game. Amusing but, nothing new.
Audio/Video: 10/10 The graphics in DK64 is superb. It shows the full potential of the expansion pak. The characters were well made (graphically, speaking) as with the enemies. The environments are smooth and practically seamless. The sounds are humorous and delightful to the ears of myself and possibly the ears of other gamers. The music fits in well with the environments (i.e. the haunting piano melody in Creepy Castle, or the rhythmic sounds of the jungle in Jungle Japes.)
Replayability: 8/10 I, myself, like to replay adventure/platform games. This game made me want to go through the long, arduous trip again, after I had beaten it for the first time. The game is fun (I know that I'm repeating myself)and the replayability factor is pretty high (or, at least for me.)
To buy or to rent?: I say that you should rent it first, to get a feel for it. This game is probably not for all players. Steer clear if you hate adventure/platform games and/or if you hate the DK series.

THE GOOD: The music's good, the graphics are good, it's long, it's just awesome.THE BAD: Lanky creeps me out. SUMMARY: This is my favorite N64 game! There's a lot to do, so it takes a long time to beat. Some of the mini-games are really hard. The music and graphics are pretty good. The music in Gloomy Galleon was cool. You can play as five characters. Tiny's so cute. If you get all the bananas, you get a special ending. *does a happy dance* The battle against K. Rool at the end is funny. I love K. Rool. I didn't take points of this, but it gets kind of annoying having to get certain things with certain monkeys, but that makes it more challenging, and there are a lot of new moves to learn. You can make Tiny tiny! It's cute. Funky's cool, like usual, in this. He gives you stuff to shoot the Kremlings with. Fun! I really liked this game! I've heard a lot of people don't like it, but if you like Donkey Kong, you'll like this. |

The Monkey's Will Rock Your N64 | 5.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: The following are the good things about this game: Outrageous story lines, Stunning characters (Donkey Kong, Jr. Kong, Diddy Kong, Big Kong, and the one that stretches Kong), Funny story line characters, Good Graphics, RPFG (Role Playing Funny Game), 1-4 players in multiple player modes, Nice maps on multiple player modes, Funky and funny music, Contains mini-games, Interesting story missions, Horrendous villains, and Divine weapons such as feathers, watermelons, grapes, peaches, and coconuts. (What more can you ask for!)THE BAD: There is nothing bad with this game....
SUMMARY: What! Donkey Kong again! Threes a Donkey Kong game for N64! This is the best day of my life! After the Super Nintendo Entertainment System they finally decided to make Donkey Kong for the one and only N64. I love this game as much as I love chow mien and tacos. The story lines, like always, are very hilarious, outrages, and funny like always! This time Donkey Kong has brought us new characters, which are Diddy, The one that stretches, and the big fat one. Diddy Kong is so hot! Contains extremely great graphics although being N64. Each story line(s) will give you a spark of interest for this game making you fall in love and even kiss the beautiful, teenage game. Oh man! To add more, this game contains mini games as well as interesting missions that one as you has to complete in order to get a certain score (points and ranks). The best mini game to play is the one were Jr. King is racing himself in railroad cave tracks. I just couldn't stop playing these mini games. They’re all interesting and funny as well (depends how you feel & play the game). Ahh, the music, the music is, is, f-u-n-k-y and f-u-n-n-y! I love the music from this game. The music even maids me get up from the chair were I was sitting and dance like crazy! Hey, I actually danced like a reggae-pop star because the music got me way too inspired. The villains V.S. the good. It's a classic; each villain has to have its own music, style and map. The same regulation goes for the good guys. This game follows this regulation making me even buy surprise gift for the game. That doesn't stop there! There is more to the game that you can't imagine! The multiple player modes... Oh, the multiple player modes, IS THE BEST! Each character with its own map, music and weapon. You just can't say no to multiple player modes! Is the bomb playing with another person and seeing who has the best techniques. I have to say that the game is possibly one of the best N64 games ever developed...
The game, yes, the game just doesn't seem to have any defective story lines, graphics, etc. It just seems so perfect that not even I couldn't believe so I had to try this game for myself and for my surprise this game ended up being one of my all time favorite games! The box cover is very traditional just like the other Donkey Kong games. This game has its own genre, which is RPFG (role playing funny game). Note: I invented the genre and a special genre for this game. This game is the bomb and I won't give it for nothing in this world. Trust me, is the greatest Donkey Kong game ever developed. Now, all I need to do is sit down and wait for the sequel for this game.
This game rocks so I will rate it 5/5! Hope you will like it too!

THE GOOD: The 5 characters you can use, and the levels you can explore and the gameplay itself!THE BAD: Having to collect all the items in the game like the bananas etc. It's get's boring after a while and exploring the place for ages makes you just want to cheat - which you don't realy want to be doing. There are about three thousand and something bananas to collect and to collect them all is a great achievement! SUMMARY: Donkey Kong 64 is probably the first proper rpg for the N64. The Donkey Kong games all started off almost 2d (sort of 3d) and the first games ever showed donkey kong throwing barrels at mario down some stairs and now he has become the hero of his island. Donkey Kong now has to save the world, but not just the world, his friends. He has to save his 4 friends which when you get, have all different types of abilites. Without the help of his friends in this game -he would not be able to save the world - as he needs their skills to help him on the way. The main aim of the game is to collect bananas and to get new skills for your monkeys which then can be used on bosses and switches. Say you had a steep hill, you need lanky to walk on his hands and get you to the top! The game grows on you - but it is not the most exiting of all games, a shame really but it was a good RPG for the N64. It is a buy if you still have an N64 and are an enthusiast because it was one of the best games on the N64. |

Visuals: very nice and smooth, lots of bright colours and with the use of the expansion pack, fogging is nowhere to be seen. The kongs look lovely and so does the lighting and the special effects, especially when you turn into an animal. 8/10
Audio: Some ok music while it is genrally normal DK music, it is really samey. And the only person with a good instrument is Diddy kong. 5/10
Gameplay: Wow. Loads of stuff to do in the game. First off, lets talk about the ability to change into an animal. A few of the Kongs can change into Rambi the rhino and that Swordfish guy (damn him!). they each have very powerful abilities.
You don't get much health in the game so it is quite hard. The aim of the game is to retrieve all of the golden bananas which King .K. rule has stolen to distract you while he gets his machine working again so that he can destroy DK isle.
There are also the coloured bananas. 100 for each kong to get in each level. That is wellover 2000. There are 100 golden bananas in the game and I got 98. The more you get, the better the ending.
The bossess are repetetive but the pre-boss movies are usually quite funny.
Each kong has a weapon, Like Dk's coconut gun, or chunky's pineapple launcher. The best would have to be Diddy's twin peanut guns..
The end boss fight is great. it is a real challenge and the ending depends on how many golden bannas you have gotten. 9/10
longevity: Want to unlock all the characters, get all the cheats, get all the coloured and golden bananas? You better have the ability to stay infront of a Tv screen for months on end! 10/10
The kongs also have very special abilities, like diddy's awesome jetpack! |

THE GOOD: You have 5 playable characters, great challenges, multiple skills challenging events...THE BAD: I must admit, I have gotten a little irritated at the game on some of the mini-games they have in this game... SUMMARY: This game overall is really good. This is typically a game I thought I would not play. I am a RPG and RTS player. So, something that seem a little kiddish to me ended up being that I could put down the control pad. The story line is also pretty good in giving the characters that it has. I would recommend this game to just about anyone. The bad things about this game is... There are a few few pain in the butt mini-games in it. They almost seem impossible. I wouldn't be surprised if I had to replay them about 20 or more times. My advice is just take a break and take a breather then go back to it. I found it easier that way, compared to breaking your control pad, which I did not do. Just an exaggeration. I wish you the best of luck in this game. It is TRULY overall a really good game. |
