THE GOOD: - One of the greatest Mario games of all time - Fan favourite - Great controls - Fun to play - Loads of replay value
THE BAD: - Can get a little frustrating due to Mario sometimes going where you don't want him to.
SUMMARY: Super Mario 64. One of the humblest and most recognized of the Mario games. While the 2D Mario games may be easier to control, the 3D Super Mario 64 on the Nintendo 64 gave fanboys, collectors and general gamers a massive taste of what was to be.
The game basically features the same story as most Super Mario games. Bowser has taken the princess, and you have to save her some way or another. But instead of bashing blocks with his head and fist, Mario is now in 3D.
The controls of this game need to be learned, but can be learned extremely easily. The analog stick in the middle of the N64 Pad moves Mario, A makes him jump. Those are the basics you need. And...
THE GOOD: Gameplay translates well from 2D to 3D with some awesome jumping physics, controls (for the most part) work very well taking advantage of the analog stick, graphics look good, soundtrack is addicting and catchy and, while simple, the storyline works well.
THE BAD: Camera angles and controls at times are very, very aggravating. Game also gets rather tedious at times.
SUMMARY: Released in 1996 by Nintendo, Super Mario 64 was the headlining act for the Nintendo 64. A new console demands a tech-demo, but screw a demo, let's just make a whole game to truly test the capabilities of a new 64-bit console! To their amazement, Super Mario 64 was (and still is to this day) a roaring success, and Mario is, once again, a real driving force and a standard setter for games to come. Not since Super Mario Brothers for the NES, has the Italian plumber felt soo important to gaming. I mean... yeah, he had some help from newcomer Crash Bandicoot, but...
Mention the word 'Nintendo' and almost certainly people will think of Mario. That surprisingly agile plumber has been the number one icon for the gaming giant for a very long time, so it comes as no surprise that he should star in a launch title for the console. Super Mario 64 is a pretty special title though, because in addition to launching their console it also marks the first time Mario steps into the 3D world.
From the moment I took control I couldn't help but feel how well the system works. Mario responds very well to the analogue input, allowing for fluid and accurate movement in his new environments. He has also been gifted a wide variety of abilities as well. Typically all these moves are done via either singular inputs or combinations of three buttons - A, B and the trigger Z. The cool thing is that even though Mario can perform every move from the beginning (aside from the powerup skills) they aren't forced on the player too quickly. The moves are introduced...
THE GOOD: + Amazing visuals + Almost flawless control system + Cool power ups + Many levels + 120 stars to collect + Funny title screen + Fun ways to get stars
THE BAD: - Bosses are so easy it's funny - Occasional control faults - The camera. Uggh. - Can be frustratingly difficult
SUMMARY: Super Mario 64 is considered to be not only one of the best N64 games but one of the best games of all time. All of its reivews were positive and very high. Since 1997 Super Mario 64 has sold around 12 million copies and around 5-6 million on the Wii's Virtual Console. It was also so popular it was a remake on the DS (Super Mario 64 DS) which has sold 5 million around the globe. Honestly, and oddly, I prefer Super Mario Sunshine, but this is a fantastic game. If you don't own this on the Wii or anything else, you are officially bonkerz.
THE GOOD: + Easy to learn controls + Mario's many moves + Lots of levels + Excellent graphics for it's time + Great Storyline + Decent Sound
THE BAD: - Sometimes glitches can mess you up in a few levels
SUMMARY: This game is full of action, starting from when you first turn it on before you even get to choose one of four files to play from. After the Nintendo logo, you'll see the Super Mario 64 logo, and then come to an interactive screen with Mario's head. Using your analog stick, you can move the hand around and grab and stretch parts of Mario's face such as his ears, nose, etc. After this little gimmick, you'll be at the file selection screen where you will first start off.
In this menu, you can move Mario's facial features around such...
THE GOOD: Puzzles.
Bowser.
Replay ability, which I did 4 times.
Moves.
Suberb Game Engine.
Great Graphics, unless your a spoiled comp. fan.
Plot.
Level Design.
How you can get all the stars and still
not know everything the game has to offer, without a lot, and I mean A LOT of Exploring.
Not too hard not too easy.
Just Perfect.
THE BAD: Nothing really, except ametuers might have trouble with the camera, although I dont.
No Luigi.
SUMMARY: The game is great, theres all the classic stuff crammed into it, like the turtle shell,Ghosts and such. Great and innovative level design, positively enchanting. I had a really great gaming experience with this game, terrain is awesome kind of like in the Snow levels there different kinds of snow and ice and dirt and things like that. enemies are challenging like the giant "Bubba" fish and the Bomb-Ombs. The audio's marvelous, the game play is inspiring, words cannot describe the perfection of...
THE GOOD: Gameplay. Graphics. Audio. Lasts quite a while too.
THE BAD: Not enough bosses. Camera is a real pain in the rear end.
SUMMARY: Lastability: 7/10. You need at least 70 Stars, which takes a fair while, and then you can collect a lot more to get them all, taking ages. What happens when you get them all? Not much, but hey, it's something to do. Graphics: 9/10. For a first with 3D graphics that's going to be on the new system (yeah, we know about Star Fox being the first 3D Nintendo game that is complete), these are pretty impressive. Mario looks like Mario, Bowser like Bowser and Toad like Toad. Sound: 9/10. Soundtrack is memorable and thank god they did a good job here because it is a great one to listen to. Sound effects are also good. Mario's voice is also well done. Actually I thought all the voices (when they existed) were pretty good. Gameplay: 9/10. Simple concept: Go into a...
THE GOOD: Lots of levels, almost all of which are well-designed and fun The puzzles that are required to get each star are just plain fun The fights with Bowser are fun Cool power-ups, such as the ability to turn metal, invisible, or fly Can ride around on Koopa shells. How awesome is THAT? The classic Bowser kidnaps Peach storyline has been used again (overused or not, it still remains awesome)
THE BAD: Some puzzles can be tricky and kind of annoying Camera angles ocassionally screw up, which can get annoying at times Uh...that's about it?
SUMMARY: This game is just full of fun. The ways in which you have to collect the stars on each course are really cool. For instance, there are some races you'll have to do to collect one. Some others involve other cool stuff such as throwing a boss off a platform a number of times, or collecting a certain amount of red coins, and stuff like that. And the Bowser fights are damn fun,...
would recommend this game. It is very fun and entertaining, but challenging. It took me six months to beat the game, and I didn't use any guides.
In this game, Bowser has trapped the princess. The story takes place in the Princess's castle. Mario must obtain Power Stars to free the princess. There are many enemies that must be defeated. You must beat Bowser a few times and then beat him a last time to free the princess. There is a total of one hundred and twenty Power Stars. There are many different levels, fifteen in all. There is a certain objective in each level and if you complete what you are supposed to do, you will get a star. You can also get stars in levels by collecting one hundred coins. You can also find stars around the castle that are not in the levels. There really are no weapons you can use in this game. By finding a certain amount of stars, you advance to more levels.
The graphics for this game are great. There are two different kinds of camera...
THE GOOD: This game is really hard, so it lasts a while. The music's okay.
THE BAD: It's too hard for me. The graphics aren't that good.
SUMMARY: I never understand what was so popular about this game. I'm so glad I got it used, though, because I still don't understand what you peoples see in it. It's just way too hard. It really annoys me. The graphics aren't that good, either. Toad is just plain scary in this. Bowser looks pretty bad, too. Mario doesn't move right. He keeps sliding off things when I try to stop him. It's annoying. The music's not that bad, though. The music in water areas is good. I can't get very far in this game at all. Either he falls off something due to the possessed controls, or I get stuck somewhere with no idea where I'm possibly expected to find a star. I must admit, though, this game lasts a long time. After around two years, I still can't beat it. I wasn't playing two years straight, but you know...
