THE GOOD:
Good graphics. Several unique modes of gameplay. Realistic controls. Mini-Golf is included.

THE BAD:
Controls take time to learn at first, especially if you don't play many golf games. Some of the special game modes are very difficult. Can't unlock everything if you don't have the N64 Transfer Pak & GBC Mario Golf.

SUMMARY:
Mario & Company's first try at something besides platform games & racing came in the form of this title. The first thing you may notice is it keeps true to the Mario franchise in that many holes on the courses have patterns of various Mario characters, both good and evil...right down to using Boos as wind gauges. Controls start out simple at first, just pressing one button to swing at first, then learn how to slice, hook, and use spin on shots. There's also a Challenge Mode where you can unlock more hidden golfers.
Some of those special games, like Ring Shot, seem to border on impossible without lots and lots of practice and re-trying. And don't let Mini-Golf fool you-some of those holes will leave you frustrated because they're quite difficult. Also, there are 4 hidden characters that require the N64 Transfer Pak to unlock-if you don't have that and Mario Golf for Game Boy, you can't get them.
Although the game isn't perfect, it's still a lot of fun to play, and will keep you entertained for some time. And you can practice for the GameCube version too.
