THE GOOD:
Lots of almost-nonstop action. Good variety of weapons to use.

THE BAD:
Poor graphics & sound, especially for an arcade-to-NES port. Not enough variety in gameplay. Gameplay's also rather clunky.

SUMMARY:
Based of the arcade title, P.O.W. (Prisoners Of War) is basically Double Dragon with a military theme & stettings. You're a prisoner in a military jail who's just blown open your cell, and now you must fight through endless waves of soldiers & guards on your way to freedom.
For an NES version of an arcade title, the graphics are nowhere near as good as the arcade version-there's much less detail, and the characters look & seem to move clunkier as well. Sound effects are standard for fighting games-more variety and especially some more "military" efects would have helped. Nothing really stands out in controls-they do the job OK. gameplay-wise, while it's nice that it's a "break out of jail" storyline, the game plays just too much like Double Dragon despite a variety of weapons like machine guns, knives, etc. The fighting seems to be endless at times and quickly gets redundant despite a OK 2 player option. The stages are also much too long as well for most players.
While this game was good in arcades for adding variety to the side-scrolling fighting genre, the NES version ran into serious roadblocks during the conversion and greatly suffers as a result. You're better off sticking with Double Dragon instead.
