Super Mario Bros. 2

Creating a ground-breaking title that helps define the gaming market is a difficult task, but even harder is producing a follow-up that can meet the expectations of the public. The original Super Mario Bros set standards in how platform games should be done, so much was expected from the sequel. While Japan got a sequel that was basically 'more of the same', we got a mishmash of Mario graphics into a completely different game. While Super Mario Bros 2 does not reshape the market, it does provide great fun.

Visually the game is a notable improvement over the first game. Backgrounds are much more detailed, colours are more vibrant and varied and there is still a lot more objects and the like in there. The biggest improvement are the character sprites used in the game, which are much better defined than the first game, with a better use of colour and the animation also appears a lot smoother. Powerup items also appear to look great as well. The world of Subcon is a pleasure...

THE GOOD:
The graphics are really good.
You get to play as others other than Mario.

THE BAD:
This was the worst game Mario is featured in.

SUMMARY:
Super Mario Bros. 2 is a pretty good game but just not as good as the first one. I think that the graphics are really good, almost like 16-bit. It was nice getting to play as other characters except Mario because not everyone likes him as much as the rest of the gang and they didn't want to have to be 2 player to be Luigi like in the first one. The sound for this is really lively although it does play the same tune for most of the way through the levels and the levels can be really long unless you find a shortcut.

Overall i'd prefer to play the first Mario but this is worth playing, althoughi wouldn't play it through more than once.

THE GOOD:
Play as Mario, Luigi, The Princess, and Toad. The music's okay... There are more different bosses then the first game.

THE BAD:
The gameplay, level designs, no Bowser! >_<

SUMMARY:
Out of the 3 Super Mario Bros. games for the NES, this one is by far the worst. I'm not saying it's bad, but it's not nearly as good as the other two. Basically, You travel around in one of Mario's dreams as Mario, Luigi, The Princess, or Toad, digging up random crap from the ground and using it as a projectile. I mean, the concept sounds good, but at the end you're just left expecting a little more, especially since the game is so easy. Another problem I have with this game is that Bowser isn't in it. I mean, Bowser is Mario's arch-nemesis! How can he not be in this game??? I give this game a 3.5/5.

THE GOOD:
Can play as Peach, Mario, Luigi, or Toad

While a whole lot different from most Mario games, still fun

THE BAD:
Some may not like this, as it has a different style of gameplay from most Mario games.

This isn't what the real Super Mario Bros. 2 game was actually like. This is just a rip-off of a game called Doki Doki panic, despite the fact that this game is good.

SUMMARY:
Well, this is basically a rip-off of a game called Doki Doki Panic, but replaced with Mario characters. In fact, the real Super Mario Bros. 2 was a whole different game than this. But still, it's a fun game to play. However, this game may not appeal to everyone, as the style of gameplay it has is a whole lot different from most Mario games. To summarize: This game is different, but fun.
