| Backyard Baseball centers on developing baseball teams, all with young kids. Some of these are the young version of real baseball professionals, which was one of the more interesting things I saw throughout my time playing it. The game is generally tagreted for younger kids, but I still enjoyed it somewhat. There are many players, mostly preselected. I also like the 'create player' option which allows you to customize your own players. You can do nearly everything in your power while creating a character, such as height differences, weight differences, gender, hair style, hair color, nickname. But the most important part to balance is the skills, for you have to spread them out evenly enough among ther five variables to get the best results on the court. If you happen to come across this game, I can't say I'd tell you to get it. I think it is very difficult to create an adequaterly realistic baseball simulation game, and this one is one of the more simple attempts that have been made. I'msure a good baseball simulation will come along one of these days, but until then, stay away from this one. |

General/Summary: Backyard baseball is a sports game ment for children. Overall, it's a pretty bad sports game. There are other ones 10 times better! It's ok for someone 4-9, but not much further. Believe me, there are much better sports games out there. Gameplay: Game play is alright. I said this on one other game I reviewed, "graphics, most often, bring out the true core of god gameplay". Backyard baseball lacks in quality graphics. Another thing that's not so good about BYB 2001, is that if you've ever noticed, the characters take so incredibly long to run to base, or run out in the feild to attempt to catch a ball. Like I said, game play is on the bad side.
Graphics: Graphics are nearly horrible. The characters are WAY too cartoonish. I mean what a joke! Look at their eyes for example, there like too little lines that run parellel, and if I were to ever live in a world like that, I'd kill myself!!! Plus, the grass is not textured at all, it's like a laid out painting of green. And the bat could of been done alot better.
Sound: The sound on BYB is without a doubt the most annoying thing in the world!!!!!!!!!! When you're pitching, or up to bat, these incredibly annoying voices keep saying over and over things like, "We want a batter, not a broken ladder." And also stuff like "Swing batta batta batter". ANNOYING! |

THE GOOD: backyard baseball has great graphics, players, and sounds. this game is playable, easy to learn, and fun. it will show you what baseball players were like as kids. the occasional humor is kinda good.THE BAD: this game is actually quite easy.I don't like that too much.when u select difficultyeasy is too easy medium is too hard and hard is almost impossible to beat.i.e. my worst player got 56 hits, 11 homers,32 r.b.i's, and struck out 40 batters, all in a 12 game period. SUMMARY: this game may say it's for kids, but it really isn't.overall, this game is awsome, except for a few drawbacks. people who are considering bu7ying this game, it's worth every penny. |

THE GOOD: Graphics, sounds, gameplay, THE BAD: Needs more in the creation modes. SUMMARY: Pretty much everything!...except the creation modes of the game. They are still fun, but it needs some more room to add things. From the sounds to the actual game...its solid all around for its age group (5-12). It's even fun for the kid in all of us! |
