I don't know that anyone was actually asking for a Looney Tunes take on World War II, but I'm glad it happened. After spending most of the last twenty years slogging through just about every gray, gritty battle of that war, Battlefield Heroes offers a welcome splash of color and some insane cartoon physics to make things a little bit interesting again. And that's before you start dressing your guy up like one of the Village People.
Heroes isn't a realistic take on WWII. It's not, in fact, a realistic take on anything that's ever happened anywhere in history. Unless there was a war where soldiers were commonly propelled hundreds of feet into the air by an errant grenade, subsequently popped a parachute to sail into enemy territory, stole an airplane and hopped out onto the wing in mid-flight to do a little surf-machine gunning, and jumped off just before the thing plowed into a hillside full of enemies. Because if that happened then I'm sorry I burned my draft card.
Is it just me, or did Battlefield Heroes' release yesterday come seemingly out of nowhere? A few months ago, I couldn't turn around without seeing an interview or a news story about the open beta...
