THE GOOD:
it does have some decent scenery.

THE BAD:
played this game on and off for 4 years and it is still the worst game i ever came across.
very poor thinking on part of designers.

SUMMARY:
the bad guys always get an interrupt even if they have used all their points.
the bad guys guns never jam.
the bad guys pistol has same range as rifle.
the bad guys can hit at ranges far exceeding their weapons range.
the bad guys are as accurate when in critical health as good guys best marksman.
the good guys have to shoot the bad guys the same amount of times to kill them no matter what weapon they have.
the bad guys see better at night then good guys with night vision.
the bad guys never sleep.
the bad guys in map mode can move faster than the good guys.
the good guys can't hit the bad guys at point blank range with a shotgun.
shooting through walls with ap ammo has yet to hit anything.
ai is poor. militia run...

THE GOOD:
Better graphics. More Mercs, more weapons. Exotic Weapons. RPG elements. Sci-fi mode. Good interface. Voice acting. Cheat codes. Non-linear gameplay. Real time with Turn based combat. NPC's. Interrupts. Tweaking your shots to their heads with your laser sight and scope with tripod hooked to your weapon for a one shot one kill thing.

THE BAD:
So freaking hard, almost impossible. Crashes, but very rare. Linear storyline. Interrupts. Learning curve.

SUMMARY:
Here's the lowdown:

Rent some Mercs, kill the bad guys, and save the people of Alrulco.

Very simple. But very hard to do. The thing is... you have to manage your money, militias, weapons, merc's sleep, and please the people.

Very addicting hence you can do it anyway you want. You can even make your own guys fight each other!

Send MERC(S) on suicide missions, commando night-ops, massive infiltrations, or do dumb things like kill...

THE GOOD:
Weapon selecton (better than most), good premise, it's fun to hide behind civilians during combat.

THE BAD:
At times wonky controls, crippling random save/travel lockups (not often enough to be a HUGE problem).

SUMMARY:
Hey kids, ever want to free an island nation from the clutches of a dictator AND spill blood all over it in the process? You can do this and so much more with JA2. Combine pieces of "junk" in the field to make useful items and to upgrade your arsenal. Not to mention interact with many interesting people.

Of course it isn't all sunshine in the land of Arulco, some suprisingly long load times and a little problem with the game locking up when you save or travel (VERY SELDOMLY HAPPENS) can turn your tropical paradise into a tropical hell.
