A really good game! | 4.9 0 comments |
by blackmoor777 from , , | May 7, 2005 |
THE GOOD: The graphics were really good in this one; nothing like the graphics in games like Myst III Exile or Crystal Key 2, etc., but real enough. The characters were likable, and the house itself was beautiful. I would have loved to live there were it a real place. The designs are so intricate. If you're someone who loves mystery in history, then this game is for you, as the whole game is about the history of the Penvellyns and how their heritage led up until the present. It was also really cool to see Latin written everywhere.THE BAD: The only "bad" would be that the ending wasn't challenging or drawn out at all, and that the puzzles were really hard...but it wasn't horrible, so the bad should hardly count. SUMMARY: I gave the game a 4.9 only because I didn't like the ending much, but it wasn't horrible, so what am I complaining about?
I think that "The Curse of Blackmoor Manor" is one of the best (possibly even THE best) Nancy Drew games created yet. The puzzles were very challenging but I felt such a sense of accomplishment when I figured them out. The history of the Penvellyns was very interesting, and made me wish my family was like that. I don't think we can hardly date our ancestors back before the late 1880s, whereas in Blackmoor, the Penvellyns could date theirs back to the 1400s.
Also, the decorations in the house were very appealing. And so were the characters. Some were irritating, but for the most part, they always had you interested and surprised.
I think the best part about the game was the story line. It was very well thought out, and I thought it was very genius that Her Interactive made the whole house into some sort of puzzle/fun house. Also, the scary things that happened (this is probably the scariest game) kept me on edge, but it was so fun. You never could guess what would happen next. And though the ending was disappointing in length and task, it was still very surprising (who the culprit is). Overall, I'd say this game is my favorite, and definitely worth the buy (if you don't scare easy and if you're up to a huge challenge!). |

The most challenging Nancy Drew Mystery yet! | 3.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: Difficult and varied types of puzzles, and a new twist to the characters.THE BAD: Interaction with particular characters did not often take place. SUMMARY: Her Interactive has done it again. They've released a new thrilling game to their series of Nancy Drew mystery games. You, as Nancy Drew, take on your first international mystery with excitement! You've been asked to help solve a mystery surrounding Blackmoor Manor, an old manor that has been in the Penvellyn family for hundreds of years. A newly wed to the family, Linda Petrov, has suddenly closed herself in her room and has a curtain shielding her from sight. What has caused her sudden change has the whole family wondering. It is your job to find out why Linda has taken on this change.
I enjoyed "Curse of Blackmoor Manor" very much. It took me a total of four days to complete. This game is very challenging and I say that in a positive way. It's a good change from the past games. This one has you set your mind to doing the tasks, overcoming its challenges, and scoping out the culprit. There is an eerie atmosphere, which is completed by the music and the secretiveness of each of the characters. Great graphics and a large screen have helped to improve the game. It is no longer a necessity to call Nancy's friends, which is a nice change. I'm sure that you'll enjoy some aspect of the game, whether it is the music, the setting, the characters, or the deeper secrets that lie within the plot. |

This is the best Nancy Drew game yet. | 4.0 0 comments |
by arschep from , , | Dec 9, 2004 |
THE GOOD: Really good graphics, new elements, length of game, characters. I also really liked this game because it has quite a few games to play and “tasks” to complete THE BAD: You couldn't talk to some of the characters very much. Some of the puzzles were difficult. SUMMARY: Overall, this game is excellent! It has several new elements that previous Nancy Drew games do not--This is the first game to have an animal that you can interact with. Also, this is the first game to have a younger character in the game at all. I really liked this game because it has quite a few games to play and “tasks” to complete. The characters interesting; however; you don’t get to interact with some of them very often. This Nancy Drew game is definitely one of the scariest and graphics make it seem the most “real.” It doesn’t leave you thinking there should be more—it took me the most time out of all the games to complete. I would absolutely suggest buying it! |

Nancy Drew: Curse of Blackmoor Manor | 5.0 0 comments |
by dranzer from , , | Nov 5, 2004 |
THE GOOD: If you love mystery, excitment, and are not a little bit afraid of curses then this game is for you. The game is intense and gets you involved, playing as Nancy from the beginning. She describes how she ended up in England, and would be staying at the Manor to solve an exciting mystery.THE BAD: The puzzles, are a little bit dull and for the beignner, the puzzles may seem a bit long and boring, not to mention a waste of time. Especially, playing with the stepdaughter, Jane. Although, the games are cute, but they take too much time, and there was no point and not so meaningful connections. The only really bad part is too much conversation. Even if you exhaust all conversations, most of them can be misleading. SUMMARY: This game is really intense from the beginning when Nancy arrives in England, and stays at the Blackmoor Manor to solve an intense mystery of past and present adventure. The characters, are limited and the puzzles are many. The Manor is just creepy and there is many excitement in the air. |
