An average game | 2.5 0 comments |
by crying_evil2004 from Blobbo town, Blobby, Blob land | Jun 3, 2004 |
THE GOOD: Multiplayer, shoot things thats about it. Mixed enemys. A classic not to be messed with.THE BAD: Old graphics. Little compatibility for my 2ghz wonder machine. They should do a remake. Dodgy settings yo mess with. SUMMARY: This is an average game. Too much swearing for a game that has so much potential. There is a lot of mixed opponents to fight. Its dosnt like my 2ghz machine with 64meg video card, which is dissapointing. The options barely do anything on my machine, and since I am a programmer, I might do a unofficial patch for it so that its likes newer machines. This game alright... for one that was released in 1997. The weapons arent that varied, despite what the manual says. This game only kills a couple of my high standards in shoot-em-ups. Oh well, another opertunity wasted. |

First Person Shooters have always been very competitive but nothing compared to the Quake Series | 4.0 0 comments |

First Person Shooters have always been very competitive but nothing compared to the Quake Series, Quake II was a highly anticipated release because of the success of the original Quake.... But was the game a success like the first?
================ Story (7/10): ================
Another one of those games that feels like the story was thrown in at the last minute. You have crashed on another planet and found out that you are one of the survivng few out of about a hundred of your men. You then have to fight your way through tons and tons of aliens for your right for survival.
================ Gameplay (8/10): ================
A great game to play, every weapon has different characteristics and every level offers new environments to wander around in. Enemies have death animations and can evade your attacks and also position themselves to ambush you as a team. The levels are completely different to the first and have a more high-tech feel to it, you will find yourself navigating through lots of sewers/streams throughout the game.
================ Graphics (9/10): ================
Quake II is a huge jump ahead from Quake I graphically and you must have a 3DFX, OpenGL or Direct3D card to see the graphics at its maximum. With great particle effects on the rocket launcher, railgun and the blaster and 16bit textures Quake II is a dream for any eye candy freak. The most amazing thing in-terms of graphics has to be the green glow given off by the slime in the sewers, this is only noticible if you have a 3DFX, OpenGL or Direct3D card. Id Software really have done a magnificent job with the graphical elements, check out the Hyper Blaster if you want reassurance.
================ Control (10/10): ================
Perfect mouse and keyboard control which allows you to strafe around corners or dodge that rocket that's hurdling towards you at 100kph. A great job by Id Software.
================ Sound (9/10): ================
Full 3D sound support which allows you to figure out the position of an enemy just by the sound. The heavy metal music from the original has been toned down alot but most of the weapons, action sounds are similar to other Id Software games.... which is good! _________ / SCORING \ +-----------------+ | Story (7/10) | | Gameplay (8/10) | | Graphics (9/10) | | Control (10/10) | | Sound (9/10) | +-----------------+ | Overall - 8/10 | +-----------------+
Rent or Buy? Depending on whether you like First Person Shooters... if you do then its a must buy! If not then try renting, as you must at least try this once.
Try this game if you liked: - Quake - Duke Nukem 3D - Half Life - Pretty much any First Person Shooter |

| no matter how old this game gets its still one of the if not the best 3d shooter out to date. The online following is huge, and you don't get sick of this game...ever. I've been playing it ever since it came out and i only have a p150, game looks like ass on my computer compared to everone elses, but the game is so fun it doesn't even matter. And when you have a good computer it kicks even more ass because all the textures look so good under colored lights. |

Quake II: Best FPS Ever!!! | 5.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: Better than Quake, and Quake 3. COMBINED! OpenGL, Glide, PowerVR Extreme, you want it you got it. 32-24-16 bit color. Too many mods! Awesome multiplayer!!!THE BAD: Bad, that word is not in Quake II's vocabulary. Unless you're playing the single player game... SUMMARY: I BOUGHT MY NEW COMPUTER BACK IN THE DAY FOR THIS GAME!!! It was a 200 mhz Pentium MMX, 32 edo ram, with a PowerVR PCX2.
Now since we're in the Gigahertz age, Quake II runs more beautiful and faster than ever with Voodoo 5 and GeForce 2 Ultra, and TNT2, and so on...
Buy this game if you don't own it. In fact, I bought this game before I owned my P-200. I had a 486/66 dx2 at the time. Now with my 500, 128 sdram, and Banshee I'm cooking it up multiplayer.
The weapons are landmark, especially the BFG. If you've never played this one, don't try it, just buy it. If you did play this, ask yourself why you don't own it already.
Rail people in mid-air. Rocket Jump into the air. Grenade-Rocket Jump into the Heavens. BFG jump into space. Jump a suicidal dive and crater. Gib in ways never thought possible. Circle-strafe around your opponent while he wonders why he is being ripped into shreds. Humiliate enemies by killing them with your blaster, as they try to hit you with their rockets. All these memorable moments all included with Quake II. Skills not included. |
