The Ultimate Online Simulation! | 4.5 0 comments |
by The Rising Nebula from , IN, | Mar 8, 2008 |
THE GOOD: -An online version to the Sims! -The ultimate Sims 1 version game! -Has most features from all Sims 1 games and expansion packs. -Option of increasing lot size. -Roommates! -An option of Private Messaging other Sims Online Players. -Can create online shops, casinos, clubs, love houses, and more! -Group Skilling credit! -Online Trading with others. -New Sims Online only objects, never before seen in any of the previous games. -Cities!THE BAD: -Scammers! -Not enough current updates. -Limited to only three Sims. -Houses can only get to two stories tall at the max. -Skilling become recklessly hard as time goes on. -Not enough moderators to look over the Sims Online, the cities, and players. -$10 Fee to play, for each month. SUMMARY: The Sims Online was released in North America on December 17, 2002. It was one of the very first Sims games for me to play. I was so overjoyed to figure out that it wouldnt just be me playing the game but other players from all around the world would be too. As I became more adjusted to the games many features I soon began to notice that the game itself felt like an ultimate package to the Sims 1 games. Having only played a few of these previous games but also having heard about the others from friends, I soon realized that not only was the game online but it had most features from the previous Sims games and expansion packs all packed into the game as well.
The Sims Online had many features from previous games but also many features that were completely new to the Sims series itself. One of those being the option of having roommates on your Sims lots. This feature fit the online style of the game perfectly and it only made the game five times better. I loved the idea of being able to ask other players Sims to move onto my lot, not only would they be living on your lot, but they were also there for you to chat with. Never again would you become lonely when playing the Sims Online. Another addition to add to this feature was the fact that you didnt have to move out of your lot to bigger lots themselves, but you could, instead, upgrade your own lot to a bigger or smaller size, whatever fit you best. So whenever you felt it getting cramped with you and your roomies there wasnt any need to pack up and leave but simply paying a small fee was enough to make your lot bigger, large enough to once again fit your life style.
Before actually ever inviting roommates though, it would probably be best that you use another new feature to the Sims Online game called private messaging. Private messaging was also another one of my favorite features to the Sims Online. Basically it was a system used to send online or offline messages to other players when contacting them from a distance. Usually when you would talk to another Sim player you would just type and your script would appear on the lot so other players could see and respond. Well the best part of the private messaging feature was the fact that you no longer needed to be on a lot to chat with others, but you could chat with them from distances and in private! This system enables players to get a chance to get to know each other better, exchange interests, build friendships, and much much more! Including inviting them to be your roommate!
When building your own lot in the Sims Online many players would get really creative with their styles and looks. The common style to lots was a lot of business, entertainment, skill, or just welcoming. Another few features that the Sims Online had enabled players to do was build their lots in such a way that they could become shops, business, and stores. The feature of buying and selling objects was such a great thing and probably a must have! Without it, many players may have become bored quickly and just where were other players expected to buy their items at discounts and such? Other lot styles consisted of casinos where many players went to make money by playing the slots or cooking jams; the skill lots were places for Sim players to converse while skilling. And when skilling with a group of sims, determining on how many sims were present doing that certain skill, a percent to gain a skill was raised making it easier to gain a skill, faster for the higher percents, slower for the lower percents. There were also love lots where sims who were romantically involved would go to get married. These lots were also good for sims who just wanted to have some fun, whether it was playing truth or dare, or just interacting with other sims. Another lot that is very similar to the love houses was the entertainment lot. These lots were great for holding contests, giving out prizes, and, best of all, entertaining guests. A sim player who just wanted to win a prize while meeting other sims and being entertained the whole time would go there. Other lots that remained were the less popular lots such as welcoming lots. At this lot you would just sit around and talk with other sim players, whether it was just about life in general, the Sims Online game, the games many features, etc. The possibilities of chat topics were endless. The fact that there were so many possible ways to build a lot, in its so many styles was out-standing to me and really helped me to enjoy the game even more.
Like I have said above, there was indeed buying and selling of objects in the Sims Online but this wasnt all. There was also the feature of trading objects and money between players as well. This other feature also helped to make the game better but also more enjoyable and fun for players. When I played the Sims Online I realized that trading with other players was mainly used to give contest winners their prizes, to sell objects manually, to give gifts, to have someone hold your objects, or to just trade in general while your reason does not apply to any of the other suggestions. Trading became fun for a while to players but every once in awhile when someone would get scammed it no longer was. The game itself wasnt even fun anymore. I have had quite the experience with being scammed by scammers and all I have to say is that not only do they ruin the enjoyment in the game but also they crush your hard work. What I would suggest you do, if you ever play the sims, is to never fall for something that sounds too good to be true, most times, 9 out of 10, what someone is offering you is a scam. All that scamming is, is bad, bad, bad!
Some of the few downsides to the Sims Online that I would really have loved to see change was the fact that you could only have three different sims in three different cities, while you had to pay ten dollars each month to continue playing. In my mind this was just ridiculous, even though, I kept continuing to play. If you ever wanted to play as different sims you could ether recreate and start over as a new sim, fresh, or you could have subscribed another account to allow you to play as six sims and so on, but while considering the fee each month. There were many cities for you to choose from to have your sim move into, even though each city wasnt different in anyway except for layout, players, and name. Each city had its own description and looked different with the way it was shaped, whether it had a mass of many islands, a small river running through its base, etc. But the fact of its actual game-play features, they were all the same in everyway.
The Sims Online had many objects, since of course it had most objects that appeared in the many previous Sims games before it. The game itself also had a few of its own, original and new objects. These objects were ones such as yearly objects, an object given out to a member who had been playing the game for a whole year, construction objects, objects made manually from a construction bench by sims, and many others. These new, improved, and cool looking objects also helped to shape the Sims Online into something better. Overall, with the Sims Onlines many ups and downs, I consider it to be one of the best games of its time and I would really recommend you try the game out for yourself, you may just find out that its a great game you been missing out on for so long. |

TSO | 4.9 0 comments |
by Prepzvspunkerz from Las Vegas, , United States | Jun 21, 2003 |
THE GOOD: You meet a lot of people and really life likeTHE BAD: Somewhat a lot of spamming (depends on which city you live in), too easy to make money, and it is really hard to be in the top 15 houses of TSO. A lot of competing SUMMARY: This game is really addicting and fun, i play it everyday. It is similiar, actually very similiar to a persons life..except that you make money by selling boards, potions, pizza, maze, ect. . There is quite a lot of people that play and if your the person that likes to meet new people this is the game for you. The main point of the game is meeting new freinds and also making your house one of the best houses. There are casinos, love houses, skill building, money making, offbeat, store and a lot more. There are a lot of gangs/mafias though, its just really annoying..but in some cities there are no mafias. A lot of the cities have a very low population though. What I mean by cities is that when you create a sim you can choose a city he/she can live in. This game overall is pretty cool and you should like it (just to let you know you will be addicted lol) |

THE GOOD: Well, when i started playing this game is was GREAT! you can chat with people, get money and all this other crap. THE BAD: Now this game is a REAL addiction. i suggest DONT BUY IT. buy the orignal. i can't stop playing it and i really want to. its almost like cigarettes. Also, you can get suspended from the game for 72 hours for cusing. watch what u say. the bad thing about suspention is they dont let you go on any of your sims while your suspened and your paying for the days your not playing. SUMMARY: A REAL ADDICTION! I wouldnt have bought it if i knew i would get addicted to it. I really want to stop playing the game but i can't. It is a waste of time. Sims online is also very annoying. You get money very slowly, your skills take way to long to gain, your skills can go down, maxie can take your accont from u, loseing all your money and items, it's 9.99 a mouth, and its crap. If you want a sim game i would get the original one not sims online. |

The sims is OK | 2.5 0 comments |

THE GOOD: It lets you interact with other peopleTHE BAD: Earning Money is realy hard and is stupid.Your skill level goes down after all that hard work getting you skill up. You go to each lot by jumping there from other lots there arent connected lots. The lot you start on is way to small. There are no cheats and even if there were some Its a Violation aginst terms of Use and you cant be kicked off the Game. You have to pay 9.99 for basicly alot of little chat rooms SUMMARY: This game is not what I expected. I realy thought this game would be great because of all the adds and fake pics. I dont like how its realy hard to get money and that you get soo little. I thought that lots would be connected to other lots so you could go next door to your neighbor but the lots are not connect and you have to load every time you wana go to different lot and there arnt any roads or downtowns. I wanted to make a huge house like I do on the normal sims but its inpossable to get enough money and all you can make is a tiny shake that has like almost nothing inside. Basicy all you get when you play this game is a big chat room. |

A $49.99 Chatroom with very few game elements | 1.5 0 comments |
by xenia from South Bay, California, , | Jan 2, 2003 |
THE GOOD: NOTHINGTHE BAD: Adults engaging in immature, childish, highschoolish behavior. And the game looks like 3D Chatroom as their are no real downtown zones. My Sim couldn't even walk down the neighborhood street. SUMMARY: I am very disappointed in this game and my advice to everyone is don't fall for the hype and for the over enthusiastic reviews from younger fans.
This game is nowhere near how it is advertised and you'd think with all the many expansions that have come out with offline game that they'd offer similar features in this game. There are no downtown areas, and you can't even take a walk in the neighborhood. Players teleport from lot to lot and while some are bigger than others, they all look basically the same.
The so-called economy barely exists and what little of it does exist, literally sucks the money and energy out of your Sim. Your Sim can't produce anything to sell and whatever you do make when you work on building your Sim's skills disappears. The only items you can sell are the *Secondhand" objects your lot has and that is just part of the game.
And there is no trading in the game so be wary if you read or hear anything about trading because its simply not there.
One of the primary goals of the game seems to be wandering as that is what the majority of Sim players end up doing. Players just jump from house to house looking to to keep their Sims skills up, earn a few sim-dollars, and occasionally chatting with other players.
The developers of the game reward gangster/mafia behavior by rewarding the top 1% with visitor bonuses. The competition to get riches and become the most popular finishes after a week of play. The big houses get bigger while the rest of the players get left out.
And before the fanboys and fangirls start shrewing that this is a beta test, it has been announced that there will be no more wipes. When the game goes live, those big houses will be ruling the game.
This game is very disappointing. It offers little creativity and basically encourages these horrible values
Party -animal/rowdy behavior is rewarded while creativity and and productivity is discouraged. Ganging up on, to manipulate and take advantage of the young and smaller houses warrants praise, and the only way to be popular is to be rich and not creative or even smart for that matter.
I know some of the pro TOS fans will not like this but it has to be said and maybe they're not happy because alot of people are saying the same thing.
What I know is that I would gladly pay $20.00 a month for a multiplayer version of The Sims that I could play with my friends and family instead of this pathetic joke of a game.

Sims Online is all chat and very little game | 1.5 0 comments |
by sierra_blue from , , | Dec 28, 2002 |
THE GOOD: Its fun interacting with people for about a week.THE BAD: Seeing adults engaging in immature behavior while trying desperately to make something out of what little game content it has, is truly painful to watch. SUMMARY: This is *not* an actual game where Sims can stroll through neighborhoods and downtown areas and play with other players in an actual Sim World.
The game has a similar design to several online 3D Virtual World-Skin/avatar chat places I frequent. And in some of those places for a nominal fee, you can actually buld your own world that people can explore.
This doesn't seem like an actual, legitimate MMORPG. Because in a true MMORPG, interacting with others is one aspect of the game which you can particpate in at your discretion.
The foundation of a good gameplay comes first, then socializing and interactivity follows.
What the developers of the game did is create a chat room, and then try and add psuedo, half- hearted content in order to promote chatting.
A bunch of adults playing with musical instruments, kissing other sims and engaging in crass potty humor does not make a game.
There simply isn't enough gameplay in it for it being justified in being called an actual game and to con people into paying monthly to particpate in what is essentialy a giant chatroom is positively dishonorable. |

I want FUN - NOT reality | 2.0 0 comments |
by Jolly from Florida, USA | Dec 8, 2002 |
THE GOOD: IT's interesting meeting REAL SimoleansTHE BAD: Payouts are being lowered EVERY DAY. SUMMARY: If I want to "not be able to afford stuff" and live off of welfare, then TSO is the game for me...!!!
Americans, and the like, complain about governments lowering wages, tax increases, and the inability to keep the wages comparable with the cost of living. Yet, the people at Maxis and EA seem to think that we want to play a game in where we bust our butts to ascertain skill levels, only to have the payouts lowered - gee sounds like the BUSH ADMINISTRATION if you ask me. Do I want to play a game where I have to bust my butt like I do in real life? I think not - and so do HUNDREDS of other test players in TSO.
To top it all off, they keep the prices of objects the same - or raise them - yet continue to hinder our ability to buy them. I don't mind playing a fun game, however these people who created the game BETTER realize that CONTRARY to what they think - the majority of the gameplayers they are seeking to make money from, are adults who have jobs. I do not think that MANY of these "individuals with disposable income to play TSO" will want to spend all their free time after wroking a long hard day, go online to play a simulation game and exaust themselves trying to make the measly amount of money now available in the updated versions of TSO. They will MOST DEFINATELY loose a large portion of their user base, once the game goes public, with these kinds of updates to the game.
Long story short - the game started out fun, but now its way to exausting. I won't be playing to long - and I know MANY of the "game test founders" who have indicated that they will not be playing the game once it is released. OUCH - big setback for EA and Maxis.

A Trillion Times better Than the Sims! | 4.9 0 comments |

THE GOOD: 1) The people you are talking to are REAL! 2) Your lot can become famous! 3) Roommates 4) No "family friends".. woohoo! 5) Graphics 6) new items 7) ALL the new activities
THE BAD: 1) its hard to find an unused pizza machine. 2) Cant have a natural born baby (the child has tp be another person) SUMMARY: Ok, the Sims Online overall is a great game. With all the new things to do, it is so much fun. But after you buy your lot and bought everything you can buy, you have to make money. SO, you got to find a pizza machine to make money and they are all being used and have a line for the next people who use them. Also, if you want a child, another real life person has to be that child. Its hard to find a roommate because almost everyone already is a room mate or owns a house. I like it, though, because you would think that no one would go to your lot, but there are a lot of people that randomly come to your lot. It is a very, very, very fun game and is a MUST BUY. Go to The sims Online website for more infornation about the game. |
