Star Wars: Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast | 4.0 0 comments |
by Si B Badd from , , | Aug 16, 2003 |
THE GOOD: Again, as I said in my last review, Lucasarts have paid much attention to detail when graphicly designing the game, everything we all love about Star Wars is here, and much, Much more.
The Game starts out how the first Dark Forces started out, only this tim in true rendered 3D, and much more detailed, play this game on a top end PC with all the graphics options turned up full, and you are in for some serious eye candy. The Enemy AI of the Stormtroopers you encounter in the first level is not particularlly 'Intelligent', but they're not know for they're intelligence, so I suppose thats how it's meant to be. Come across an Imperial officer though, then his Marksman ship is greatly improved from that of the Stormtrooper, and its time to duck and pop off a few shots from behind cover. Stormtroopers crack off houmorless one liners as they try hard to kill you, and you can even smell the arrogance of Imperial Officers when they snipe words at you. Makes you want to kill them.
For the forst two levels, the game is like any bog Standard Shooter, shoot kill kill shoot, solve the odd puzzle, but after level two, things get a little more challenging when you get to learn how to use the force, and your lightsaber, then things become interesting. Lightsaber combat can be veiwed from both 1st and 3rd person perspective, as can gun fighting, 3rd PP is a lot better for lightsaber combat. Go to the options menu and set the Slow Mo Kill to full, and you are treated to a Matrix-style spin around of the kill, and when a limb is lopped off (only arms and hands, no heads) this is a fantastic effect.
As you progress through the game, more force powers and more advanced lightsaber skill levels become open to you, and before the final level, you'll be slaying Dark Siders left right and center. One on one duels can be hectic, adrenaline inducing affairs, and when that kill strike happens in slow mo, you'll feel proud.
Beginners will have problems getting through the game, and there are many chalenges to get through, but after some practise, you'll feel like Obi Wan Reborn.
The voice cast is great, and some great acting from the guy who plays Luke Skywalker (one level you get to fight alongside Luke Himself, a great touch) And Billy Dee Williams himself provides the voice for Lando Carlrissian, although it sounds like he had a cold when he he was in the recording studio.
The Multiplayer mode is user freindly and a lot of fun, and their are thousands of skins and mods to download.
THE BAD: My only gripe is that the first two levels are a little easy SUMMARY: All in all, another stellar Star Wars Game from Lucas Arts, I hope they put as much detail into this as they do with Star Wars Galaxies. |

THE GOOD: -addictive -multiplayer -lightsabers -screams -humungo levelsTHE BAD: -single player puzzles are sometime too hard -humungo levels -not that it matters but my graphics card is not up to it (Hint, Hint, GET A GOOD GRAPHICS CARD) SUMMARY: this game is one of the best i ever played. everything about it is mostly good. i especially enjoyed toying with the stormtroopers before putting them out of thier misery, for example, if i see a lone stormtrooper i would use force pull to pull him towards me then push him back with force push. then ill use force choke and choke until he is at the edge of death then finish him off with my lighsaber. speaking of lightsabers they are da bomb! master all of the different salshes and you will be invincible! mutiplayer keeps you busy when your frustrated at the sp mode puzzles. that brings me up to the games weak points. if you like exploring, the games huge levels are a haven, if you like zooming past levels, your not going to be happy, also you cant start with the lightsaber in the first couple of levels. also the game costs much money. nervertheless it is worth every penny for in the game you are in command of 10+ force powers 100+ lightsaber moves and a wide variety of usuable caharactors in multiplayer mode (Luke Skywalker, Lando Calrissian, Stormtrooper) Kudos to Ravensoft and Lucasarts for delivering an awesome game! |

THE GOOD: the good old lightsaber the multiplayerTHE BAD: enemies die a little too easy can complete the game too quickly SUMMARY: This game is good, but it took me 4 hours to complete so its not really the longest game i've ever played. But if you're a star wars fan i'd suggest you buy it. The multiplayer is dam good though. If you don't buy it it's definately worth renting. |

Many Pros, Few Flaws | 4.5 0 comments |

THE GOOD:
- Good graphics.
- Allows flexibility in many different game settings to suit individual player needs, including CTF, CTY, FFA, and Jedi master modes.
- A wide array of weapons, each with obvious pros and cons suited for different situations.
- The ability to expand the game is endless in terms of new maps, mods, and characters.
- Single player scenario has a fairly good plot, though somewhat predictable at times.
- Game allows enough flexibility to accomodate your standard Quake engine player, yet also adds the new dimension of saber battles and duels.
- Addition of force powers adds a new side to combat that players can master (light and dark side), which closely follows resembles some of the jedi tricks casted in the movie series.
- Visual as well as audio emotes unique to each character.
- Easy access in downloading additional patches that fix many bugs.
THE BAD:
- The game costs about 60 or so dollars.
- Version 1.0 allows players to use the drain death grip combination against anyone which is virtually impossible to counter if drained successfully. As a result, it doesn't necessarily depict actual skill level.
- Version 1.03 basically gives a one hit kill with a saber backstab (deals about 150 damage).
- Servers via the internet are typically more unstable than other games like starcraft since most JK II server games are administered by other players.
SUMMARY: All in all, this game is a must buy. It would be unreasonable to state that it is the perfect game, however due to the above bulleted reasons.
This game is most suited for people who like the Quake engine games, but who also yearn to engage in "additional dimensions" including force powers and saber duels. As a result, it involves coordination and expertise in accuracy (in the case of sniper scopes), movement, and killer instinct. A knack for a fast reflex is also quite handy.
Be forewarned, however, that this game can be quite addicting due to its gaming nature. |

THE GOOD: Good graphics, and the lightsaber kicks ass. Pretty challenging.THE BAD: The game can get boring after you've finished the whole thing. SUMMARY: This game is the best of the Jedi Knight series. You play Kyle Katarn, a 'retired' Jedi knight. Though the plot may be interesting, it is only around the mid-game and near the ending when the game is at its best, mainly because you can get into real lightsaber fights. Though it may be pretty unrealistic to slash your opponents so many times and they're still not dead, the graphics make up for it. You'll definitely want to get this one. |

THE GOOD: Great Game. Includes alot about Star Wars from the movies. THE BAD: Takes alot out of system. Needs Cable or better to play online. SUMMARY: This game includes alot from the movies, then branches off and includes it's own stuff.
Single-Player This part of the game is quite difficult until you get the hang of it. After you finish this, you might as well play the multi-player part. I would not bother with this part, I just went to the multi-player.
Multi-Player This part is alot more difficult than the single-player. With the single, all you have to deal with is the AI, with multi, you have to deal with real people. The game seems to be just fine in multi mode. There has been no hacking to be seen yet. Very few bugs that have been corrected.
The maps are something to be desired. They have a wide range of them, and people are already starting to create thier own. There are also a wide range of game types (Capture the Flag, Team Free for All, Free For All, Jedi Master, etc). With this wide assortment, you will not get bored with this for a long while.
Patch There is also a patch that came out which addressed the bugs I mentioned above. Make sure that when you buy the game, you go out and find the patch (v1.3), so the game will run properly.
There is another patch that will take care of 1.03. This version is 1.04. It fixes several bugs that 1.03 developed. You must have this patch to play on multiplayer! |

THE GOOD: based on the quake 3 engine so it has very good graphics. lightsabers are sweet. great dueling. force powers are great and the sides are well balacned.THE BAD: the only problem with the game is that the single player has some very puzzling puzzles. but when your done you think that was so easy how could i miss it? SUMMARY: very good game. bs and dfa are nearly impossible to block and add one hit kills. there is dismemberment and all that good stuff. single player is limited but the multiplayer is great and tons of replayablity. lots of fun games types including: Free for all, tem free for all, holocron FFA, capture the flag, capture the ysalamiri, duel, and jedi master. great game i recomend it to anyone who likes twitchy games or star wars. |

THE GOOD: i love the lightsaber dueling, and the guns, who could 4 get those?THE BAD: The stupid lightsaber doesn't work under water also, the Single Player game area is very hard to beat. SUMMARY: the game rocks in multiplayer mode in the deathstar level. you also can use seeker droids and all that crap, to deploy those you hit ur inventory button, and to deploy a seeker cannon thingy you hit "5" on your keyboard. Have Fun.
