"None of that means to say that Pet Stories might not be a worthwhile purchase. For anyone curious about the Sims phenomenon that wants a nicely accessible entry point, this will certainly do the job; but avoiding the structural elements and heading straight for the sandbox mode would serve a much better initiation. As an expansion pack the game is nearly worthless however, and be warned that none of the content on offer in this release is compatible in any form with the main game; proof if ever there was that Pet Stories is merely a means to hook new players into the Sims Universe. Judging from the current climate, EA might now be approaching the point of saturation for Sims 2 titles and expansions, and it may be time to wipe the slate clean and come up with something new. Given the inevitability of this title reaching the top 10 however, that date will be a long way off coming to fruition. "
"The whole package be easier to recommend if it was priced at a more budget-friendly level, but if you (or your significant other) enjoyed Life Stories then the chances are you'll enjoy Pet Stories just as much, if not more. The characters are funnier, the stories more interesting and the gameworld that little bit more interactive thanks to the hairy companions running around. Let's just hope that volume 3, Castaway Stories, features a smoke monster and mysterious hatches."
"The Sims: Pet Stories is, for our money, more interesting than Life Stories in that it contains the relationship elements of the latter while adding in the extra dimension of training up a pet. Story aside though, it’s still the same old skills grind in what’s become the most recognisable virtual dolls’ house on the PC, which does count against it, particularly as EA are still undoubtedly taking the piss by asking full price for what should easily be no more than a tenner. Despite it all though, we’re still suckers enough to be intrigued by Castaway Stories due out later this year which is obviously looking to take full advantage of the world’s appetite for all things Lost-like."
"That oddness aside, I’m still impressed with how much game (including content from the expansion packs, as well as new content) Maxis has managed to cram into one DVD. This game is absolutely perfect for players who want to take their Sims gaming with them when they’re travelling, or those who would like to play the game but don’t have the most amazing specs on their computer. It’s also great for players new to The Sims who want to have a look and see what it’s all about, without forking over major cash to set themselves up with all the expansion packs."
