"for owners of the original game, this is worth it only if you really want to play via Battle.net; there aren't enough new features to justify the expense otherwise. At the same time, if somehow you missed the first one and want a solid and highly entertaining game, give this latest installment in the Warcraft series a look."

"A few years ago, I could live with these flaws, but now I don't think so. When I got this game, I was looking forward to at least StarCraft-quality AI, with refurbished CG movies and a different game than I already had. This clearly was not the case. In the end, unless you're a hard-core Battle.net player, or a WarCraft II collector, or by some insane stretch of the imagination have never played this game before... it's not worth picking up."
"There are any number of newer, better RTS games out there selling at similar rates (some are even lower – you can pick up the original version of Total Annihilation for under $10 in some bargain bins). Even if you're particularly enchanted by Blizzard's design style, you can buy the much more current Starcraft, including its expansion pack, for $25-30 if you shop around."

"Hardcore fans will welcome the ease of Battle.net, but a caution to all others: this is not a new game. Warcraft II was #1 back in tha' day, but in 1999, it feels a little worn."
"Regardless of what some may think of Warcraft II, the fact is the game has retained a loyal following for nearly half a decade, and for all these many fans, Battle.net Edition provides a carefully packaged, tightly focused opportunity for them to experience one of their favorite games within a contemporary context. It's unlikely that Battle.net Edition will rekindle the same strong feelings that made Warcraft II such a hit back in its day. But it's a perfect homage to Blizzard's classic, and as such, even this unpretentious rerelease smacks of the same high quality that put Blizzard at the top in the first place."
