A Must Buy Game and Gets Addictive! | 5.0 0 comments |
by Malicious Bass from , , | Aug 30, 2005 |
THE GOOD: - Continued. - The Gameplay. - One Extra Heroe for each race. - Neutral Heroes for hire. - Two new races: Blood Elves and The Nagas. - More maps and better graphics. - Best played Online. - Online Ranking System. - New Abilities, New Upgrades, New Structures, New Items.THE BAD: - None. SUMMARY: This game is worth getting and can get addicted. If you have played StarCraft, then you would definitly like this game. It is much better and has better gameplay value. This game has been a big seller of the century for Blizzard. More than 300,000 copies has been sold out. If you buy the game now, then buy the Warcraft III: Battle Chest. It includes the Reign of Chaos Strategy Guide and The Frozen Throne Strategy Guide. It is a total of $40. If you buy the two games seperately, I assure you it won't include the two Strategy Guides for the games. It would also cost $50. And because of this, you would definitly buy this game.
The continue of the storyline makes perfect sense and it gets even more exciting. Although, the expansion pack is a bit shorter than Reign of Chaos, doesn't mean it would be horrible. This game is also best played online because of Custom Maps. Custom Maps are made by people, which is played differently and uses different strategy to reign victorious. Custom Games such as DOTA, Snipers, Paintball, Tower Defense, and so on makes this game even more fun. You can also create your own Clan, meet more people, and make friends.
According to the ending, Warcraft would not end just yet. Blizzard would make Warcraft IV, since a game can only have one expansion pack. Buy this game and see it with your own eyes. You should get this game now or it would be too late once the games is out of order. |

A Small Continuation; A Big Boost | 4.8 0 comments |
by RedFoxBandit from Central, MN, United States | Aug 19, 2005 |
THE GOOD: - More Units - More Heroes - Continuation of Storyline - Online Avatars and Ranking SystemTHE BAD: - ...None? SUMMARY: WarCraft III: Reign of Chaos was a big seller for Blizzard in the 21st century. With over a million copies sold and over 300,000 people online daily; WarCraft III has proven to be a worthy advisary for online RTS games, especially the newly released "Rome: Total War".
Frozen Throne picks up where Reign of Chaos left off. Arthas is now King of the Scourge and has gone into exile to claim the throne of Lordaeron, the Alliance, the Horde, and the Night Elves all go their seperate ways and defeat any remaining demon resistance. The Orcs, tired of fighting, begin to set up their own home on Kailmdor, which Thrall proudly names Durotar in honor of his heroic father.
Frozen Throne also expands in the multiplayer department. Four new heores, the Undead Crypt Lord, the Human Blood Mage, the Night Elf Warden and the Orc Shadow Hunters are welcome additions to the multiplayer scene. New units such as the Human Dragonhawk, the Night Elf Mountain Giant, the Undead Obsidian Statue and the Orc Troll Batrider also balance the gameplay and allow replayability for all game types.
Frozen Throne is a great hit; and is recommended for followers of Reign of Chaos who further wish to expand the singleplayer and multiplayer experience. |

Seems lame at first! | 4.5 0 comments |
by SepheroT from 2d floor of hot, , damn Hell | Dec 2, 2004 |
Before we get into this, I should mention that I am in the ''StarCraft is better then WarCraft'' group... that matters to some people. That having been said, The Frozen Throne is probably worth your money.
Gameplay 8/10
The gameplay is VASTLY cleaned up with The Frozen Throne. I find custom games fast and rather difficult to play. I really don't want to have to learn a new play style, but that's me, and I do enjoy the single player games. I think WarIII has a great single player game. Improvements include bars that indicate to the player how many workers are in a mine, people are in a ship (yes! There are boats now!) etc. It makes things much easier.
A player can now stack upgrade builds, very handy but of course you cant try to build a level one and level two upgrade at the same time and then cancel the level one upgrade so blah ;P When upgrades finish, the game tells you which upgrade was completed as well, which is VERY nice as now if you have multiple upgrades you dont have to hunt for the right building to see which one finished.
The new units are rather nifty, and new abilities such as blink which allow you to quickly travel across the terrain are very fun to play with. The ability to build shops is cool as well.
Story 6/10
Feh... the story is pretty much a stinker. Without trying to spoil to much, it becomes evident that Blizzard is into cliffhanger endings.
Blizzard seemed to prefer introducing new characters and new loose ends instead of resolving old conflicts and tying up loose ends. The plot is very reminsecent of Starcraft at points which is just disapointing.
You would think they could have done better with the VERY first level then make a ''Ashenvale is destroyed, now you lead a group of guys through the level without a base'' The story and level are so reminescent of the first Brood Wars level, it will make you sick.
It does pick up a bit, but dont expect to be satisfied. They could have done so much with Arthas and they gave us so little (IMO) but if you like custom War III, this hardly hurts you.
A word about the 'special' campaign. The gameplay and story in it seem pretty good but Blizzard only gave us the first part. They're supposedly going to release the second two parts as ''free downloads'' Phooey on them for not including the whole thing.
Sound 7/10
What do you expect from Blizzard? Well, that's what you're getting, same-old, same-old, no more, no less. Keep in mind, Blizzard's same-old, same-old is very good.
I was disapointed with new voice-overs however. When generic units would speak, different voice actors were used from the ones who did the unit sounds originally. This very much makes it look like an amateur campaign, and was highly disapointing.
Graphics 7/10
Give human Arthas pointy ears and what do you have? The new elf hero. Blah! The graphics don't noticably improve (obviously) but they're still pretty damn good. The naga look pretty cool, and so does the panda guy. It was disapointing that the myriad dreadlords all had the same portrait, except for the like two that just use Tichondrias's portrait. And the great big red demonlord? Yeah, he looks just like Archimonde. Come on Blizzard... is it that hard to come up with new portraits and units?
Overall 7/10
It's worth picking up if you have the original and love custom games. If you didnt care too much for the original (or the story) don't waste your money or expect anything to make the game much better, it's not there.
The Campaign Editor has a host of new units though. Remember how many assorted heroes there were that were never used? Now there are more 0.o. Overall, not a bad expansion. Could have been better though.

WAR!!! | 4.8 0 comments |

THE GOOD: great graphics for a computer game. great sound effects, and tons of extra stuff. allows you to choose from 4 races or randomly.THE BAD: sometimes freezes (no pun intended!!!!!!!!!) SUMMARY: this is not you basic war strategy game. it's better! this actually tkae place in the past. you get to choose from 4 races. which are: elves, orcs, human, and the undead scourge, which i will explian in a minute. okay, what what make this game different fromit's predisscessor is not much, but i can say that you have tons of new fighting environments and at least 5 new troops for each race. and don't even think abotu using LAN, i mean come on, i'm not going to all that trouble. but, you do want to get this game, because it is very addictive and is worth every MB. i mean, penny. (if you only pay in pennies) i recommend it for RPG fans, fantasy/medival fans, and sadistic voilence lovers(not unlike yours truly, i might add). i gave it 4.7 because of the generl slowness of it. i dunno, maybe it;s just my computer.

WarCraft 3: The Frozen Throne............................of Goodness | 4.7 0 comments |

THE GOOD: NIGHT ELVES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mountain Giants!!!!!! Warden!!!!!!!!!!! Orb of Venom!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pandaren Brewmaster!!!!!!!!!! Naga!!!!!!!! Demonized Illidan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THE BAD: Pit lord, why did you bring a full on demon in and ruin the game? WHY???????????????????????? and the Undead!!!!!!!!!!!UNDEAD SUCK! and the end cutscene thing where Arthas and Illidan fight. SUMMARY: This is the bestest game out there with the words War, Craft, The, Frozen, Throne in it. The campaign is set very nice like to ease players into it, but then ramping up in difficulty to keep players on their toes. The plot is superb, the twists and turns, very nice. The races give the game an extrodinary color and depth that not many gams have. Each race has its own distinct "color" and mode of fighting, and is each focused on a different just plain way to win. The courageous humans are focused on ice and fire magics, while neither melee or ranged attacks are the more prominent, this race os perfect for beginners. The orcs are a more melee based race, and thier magic style is that of shamans and is more element based, if you like melee this is the race for you. The Night Elves are a a race more focused on ranged attacks, and have a druidic type of magic, perfect for those in tune with nature and those who like attacking from afar. The last race is the Undead who are like the humans in that neither melee or ranged is focused upon more than the other, and their magic is about death, and necromancy, perfect for players out there who love the darkness. Each race is there for a different type of person, which is a quality lacking most games today. Over all this game is very good, and if you like RTS's or other Blizzard games, I reccomend you buy this game. |

Good, but overrated | 4.0 0 comments |
by Nemesii from London, England, UK | Mar 2, 2004 |
THE GOOD: -Heightened upkeep = yey -Lots of B-net updates (comes with Classic patch too) -Good continuation of CampaignTHE BAD: -Balancing issues.. In my opinion -Obliged somewhat to buy it. SUMMARY: In terms of Blizzard add-ons this offers pretty much the same as Brood War did to Starcraft, a few new units for each race and the continuation of the campaign. However, this adds a LOT of factors to the game and shouldn't be underrated, besides that fact, most people will upgrade anyway so you'll be obliged to buy it (!!Blizzard conspiracy!!).
It is worth the money however, and they added a lot of new features to Warcraft’s B-net interface which is nice, and the campaign continuation was worth the money as well. For any Warcraft 3 fan it's a must have, don't expect too many changes from the original style of play though.
Refer back to my Warcraft 3 doc for a full review of the game. |

THE GOOD: New Heros
New Units
New Buildings
New Items
New Races
New Game EngineTHE BAD: Kinda crappy pathfinding SUMMARY: I'm an old Warcraft vet and I still play the original evry now and again (pixels...he he) and this is awesome. I didn't even bother with the second one because well I just got boerd of humans and orcs over and over again. But Undead and Nighght Elves (Naga too?) just adds so much more variety. Heros are also a great addition. being able to upgrade a unit through battle is sooo cool. They are also one of the best ways to lead your armies to victory. I love the senario level War Chasers, I sware it's the best for battle net battles. Also one of my favorite things is the humor in the game. click any character a few times and thew will begin to shoot out one liners with eac new click(See title). If you don't get this game I pity you... |

THE GOOD: new units
new techs
new heroesTHE BAD: Since when has Blizzard always been so serious :/Not enough wonderful cutscenes we know and love. SUMMARY: I say gooooooooooooooood.
Really now, while many expansions of late havent lived up to what an expansion is supposed to be. WarCraft3: The Frozen Throne, fits the ticket. While there are some crusaders who'd complain about there not being any new races. You do have to consider all that has been put into this game.
Hell, we have to consider how near perfect the orginal was. I had no complaints. I have none here. Each race receives an item shop, filled with its basic potions, along with a few race unqiue items and an orb. The Undead get a non-graveyard required tower that can slow units. Each race also gets about 3 new upgrades. Some of which benifit the new units they recieve. While the new units are nothing essential. Each one makes an excellent support troops. Wheter it be the troop healing obsidian statue. From the lumbering tree lugging mountain giant. To the magic killing spell breaker. Or the air and building murdering troll batrider. These new units will fit in nicely to what current strategy you use. They may make it godlike, or give you a whole new idea all together!

I'd say we be nice to blizzard and by the time Warcraft 4 or another expansion comes around the naga will be ours! Maybe something even more exotic

Your gonna like it. I guarntee it. |

THE GOOD: -Excellent Story -Improved gameplay even from Original WCIII -Possibilities for huge numbers of new strategies thanks to great new unitsTHE BAD: -A little thin on the beautiful Blizzard cutscenes. SUMMARY: Wow. Just. Wow.
No, not world of warcraft, you. I mean what WOW meant before news of that game leaked out.
The Frozen Throne is AMAZING, nearly everything you could want from an expansion, good even by Blizzard's own exemplary expansion pack standards, more than worth the price of admission to get the new units, new campaign, new tools, new map editing functions, new strategies, new hero items, new everything. I don't like sounding like a Fanboy a lot of the time, but here it's more than justified. I only wish I could drive to Irvine and give the Blizzard guys a hug or something..
Infact, the ONLY thing that I find MILDLY LESS THAN OUTSTANDING is the lack of more than a starting and ending CG sequence. There really should have been one at the end of each campaign, as a reward (since they are really challenging!). But that might be just being spoiled because of the gorgeous cutscenes from WCIII. |
