THE GOOD: Good gameplay, balanced mix of different eras of Bandai Robots, intriguing, keeps you in front of your TV and PS2 24/7, and you'll never get bored. Battle animation gets better and better. 5 points!THE BAD: Everything's in Japanese, but those who knows Mandarin will suffer less. Will be very interesting if there's 2 player versus. Graphics still 2D, and the texture rendering is abit poor. -0.5 points. SUMMARY: This game is really good. The series of SRW is getting better. Oh, note, Super Robot Taisen and Super Robot Wars are the same, just that Taisen is the Japanese pronounciation of "Great War"(in Chinese words). The stories are actually well blended and mixed quite well that you'll find it no problem to digest at all, provided you know what you're digesting(it's all in Jap, remember?). This latest of its SRW saga allows you to customize your pilot's skills(not SP Commands), and pump up their combat abilities using earned PP from destroying enemy units and completing special requirements which will result in a general bonus to every participant in that mission.
Oh, to correct SD NEO SEED's statement about the last boss, there's something I call "Expertise Level". You gain 1 point for completing the special requirement of each and every mission. Some are easy to get, some are quite hard. If your Expertise Level is high enough(maybe around 45 or higher), the final boss will be comparatively stronger(500k HP, etc), and certain enemy characters like Haman and Zechs will join you when nearing the end. But if your level's low(44 and below), certain enemy characters might join you, but maybe only for one mission, or they might not even appear again. Even if they do, they might be still your enemy. The boss will also have handicap(400k HP, etc).
Why the Expertise Level? This is a bonus to expert and faithful players who actually spent time to play and study about the game. If you're expert enough to know what to do and how to acquire the PP +5 Bonus for completing the Expertise Level Bonus Requirement for each level, you'll end up with almost 100% Expertise Level(57 points for 57 stages). That bonus will carry over to your next game, resulting in your starting Character with a handsome 1k++ PP to spend on skills and pump your character values. My first game with the Real Female earned me a staggering 997 PP for my 2nd game with Super Female to start with. Imagine, a Super Robot that can't be hit by enemy bosses. Nice? hehe.
About the game itself, it has the usual 4 story lines, Real Male/Female, Super Male/Female. Each has their own robots, with Male robots stronger, and Female robots faster. Super Robots mainly are big target boards for enemies, but also pack alot of punch from hell in them. Real Robots are fast and furious, capable of moving from point to point quickly and very good at hitting high mobility targets and evading enemy attacks. In short: Super Robots/Pilots Superior: HP, Armor, Firepower vs Melee Disadvantage: Mobility, Range, Evasion and Accuracy, high energy consumption
Real Robots/Pilots Superior: Mobility, Firepower vs Ranged, Evasion and Accuracy, Low energy consumption Disadvantage: HP, Armor, Slightly lower damage.
Well, that should suffice. It's a really good game, even though we can't understand it in Japanese. A lot of my friends liked the game as they watch me playing. Only if there's an English version of it... Or, we go learn Japanese! Wahahaha! |
