"For the action freak or A-Team wannabe, Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction is an easy recommendation and stands as the first sweet action game of 2005."

"Mercenaries is the latest title to come out of the pairing of Southern California-based developer Pandemic Studios and LucasArts. The original third-person action game offers a rather unique experience that's similar in spirit to Pandemic's upcoming Star Wars Battlefront in the sense that you're being dropped into a fully loaded sandbox and allowed to run amok. We had the chance to get an exclusive look at work-in-progress versions of the PlayStation 2 and Xbox games and are pleased by Pandemic's inspired madness."
"Mercenaries is dense with explosive content that satisfies on a fundamental level."
"The developers at Pandemic are attempting to make Mercenaries a very cinematic game. In the initial insertion scene, it seemed like a scene out of a movie. The ridiculous amount of collateral damage you can cause only heightens its resemblance to a Hollywood summer blockbuster."
"There really isn't much not to like about Mercenaries. The action is fast, inventive, and oftentimes downright crazy, and the graphics and music are both top-notch. The only thing that's missing is a multiplayer mode, although I can see why Pandemic skipped it. With the amount of mayhem on the screen at any given moment, it would be hard to keep track of what's going on."
