Konami has seriously taken sound to a whole new level.
In the cutscenes there are recognizable instruments that incorporate thier way into the atmosphere nicely but in the general playing areas there is a different kind of music.
This music is more like a sound effect which seems to manifest itself into the games reality directly, as if a pent up and tortured demon is bellowing out somewhere in the game just off screen.
In the moment you dont think" this is only music being played" these sound effects blend into a pure feeling of what is happening in the game.
Realistic cars and buildings are seen throughout the town, the characters and monsters also carry a good sense of realism.
There is alot of graffiti, trash, and destruction which works well to convince someone of the situation.
The creators must have took thier time with every room and wall to create a chaotic artistic expression.
I found the camera angle is a great improvement over...

THE GOOD:
The graphics, sound and overall atmosphere of the game

THE BAD:
Camera woes for the first few minutes but once you get used to the manual camera fixing, it works well

SUMMARY:
Silent Hill returns on PS2 and what a return. I have been waiting for this game since I first heard it was going to be produced. After loading up the game does not fail to live up to the hype. The first thing you notice is the graphics. A lot has been said about the graphics and they are true, however when you first see the game running you notice a strange grainy fuss to the whole thing. This gives an almosy worn, evil look.
You like FOG? This game features the best fog ever. It has to be seen to be believed. The sound is awesome and suits the game perfectly. You will be more freaked out by the sound rather than actual events playing on screen. The puzzles are balanced just right and there is hardly any backtacking to do.

This is a fine fine...

THE GOOD:
Huge cities to explore, VERY scary moments, beautiful graphics, involving plot, weird characters.

THE BAD:
A little too scary for some, bad mapping system

SUMMARY:
This is one of the best games I have played for a very, very long time.
With beautiful graphics, characters full of personality, an involving plot and huge cities to explore with endless possiblities, Silent Hill 2 is the works.
The only downsides are is the terrible mapping system. It's okay, until you get to a place where you actually need the map to solve a puzzle. Th other downside is the continuous fear, my that I mean your absolutely terrified of what you can't see, which is most things, and only moderately scared of what you can.
The music plays a huge part in creating the atmosphere for the game, normally just a collection of industrial clangings, and sometimes like nails being scraped down a black board. Then, deadly silence.
The ingenious idea...

This is the game that crossed all lines, the game that made all other horror games look soft and cuddly, with its very adult content. Where not even sex is left in the shadows. This is not even a game; it is an experience, a mixture of excellence meant to touch all your senses. Something that is impossible to express through words. More among the lines of being followed, or the chillness of water licking your neck in a dark and cramped place. The coldness of the mist that wets and blurs your vision, these are all elements of Silent Hill 2. Elements so carefully constructed and implemented, that you can't even put your finger on what makes it all feel so complete. The expression You cannot see the woods for all the trees, certainly rings true in this case.

The main character (James Sunderland) of Silent Hill 2 is lost in grief and sorrow. His wife died three years ago, but he still hasn't accepted it. Struggling with his own past and fighting to move on with his...

THE GOOD:
Good textures and effects, good sound, good enviornmet

THE BAD:
Not pretty reponse to my instructions on my keypat. Frame rate seems a little low. I was expecting to see anti-alias.

SUMMARY:
This is the best horror game i 've ever play. Because it really gives me horror. The realistic enviornment makes me feel like i am James. I realise that this is just a game, and i have save or continue. Monster is walking slowly. Still, I scared my ass.

There are different types of horror. There's the kind that goes for the obvious and cheap shock-scare, like Jason in a mask with a chainsaw, or the leering zombie who jumps out from behind the table accompanied by a scream and a stab of high-pitched violins. Then there's horror of a more subtle nature -- the kind that taps into psychology to create a terror that lingers long after the actual experience is over, as the events stay in the mind, are turned over, examined, and expanded by the power of our own imagination.

Silent Hill is psychological horror of the best kind. It is a game that doesn't want to be liked. It wants to disturb, depress, and shock. It wants to make the player turn away. It succeeds through masterful manipulation of atmosphere, and a fearless and deliberate exploitation of our basest fears. These fears run far deeper than clichés like zombies (and there are zombies in Silent Hill), and explore topics like abuse, mental illness, serial killing, and what...

THE GOOD:
graphics, sound, well-voiced (acted) characters (for once!)

THE BAD:
some un-intuitive gameplay, puzzles & puzzles, length (too short!)

SUMMARY:
If you liked Silent Hill at all, you will like this. If you didn't like Silent Hill... you probably won't. The graphics are sound are amazing (just watch the intro), and the gameplay is almost identical to the first Silent Hill, complete with a new options screen after beating the game. The story is a bit different, and maybe a little harder to follow, but the more times you go through the game, the greater the story becomes. The characters are well-acted and believable, adding to the storyline. The monsters are much easier to dodge, too, so don't worry about stupid pterodactyls hitting you in the head when you least expect it. I don't know about you, but I waited for this game since from the day I beat the first one, and I definitely was not disappointed. Oh, and a word to the...
